So I wanted to take a moment to discuss ‘Mom-Shaming’. Yesterday @gabunion and her husband Dwayne Wade posted a picture of them with their new baby delivered via surrogate. This picture showed up everywhere and was a sign to women everywhere who had and are having trouble having children that being a parent is possible via other ways. What followed in the form of comments is what I call mom-shaming about why she’s in a hospital gown, ‘why does she look like she just gave birth’ and ‘Wait was she pregnant’ and all types of other nonsense. Listen, did it occur that the both of them had been through the delivery with the surrogate and skin to skin contact with a newborn is very important and recommended for baby? Having a baby and motherhood is hard enough without being ripped to shreds after sharing a very precious moment only for their people to rip them to shreds. As a mother who was able to get pregnant but had a lot of trouble during my pregnancies, I was disappointed. It’s reported that they experienced multiple failed attempts at IVF and as many as 8 miscarriages. Bless up yawl they have a little girl.
