I'm obsessed with the idea of a Whumpee in recovery, after going through hellish torture and indescribable pain, finally knowing the idea of 'more.'
Yes, there's warmth and comfort and love when their injuries are first treated, when they see Caretaker, but even past the first days of Whumpee's recovery, Caretaker is still coming to the hospital. Just to visit, to talk, give them their favorite snack and fuss over them.
And there's more.
When they come home, Caretaker makes them meals and helps them bathe and get to sleep, but it's not a one-time thing. They do it every time Whumpee needs it, or even just wants it.
There's always more.
After such a long time of being deprived, they remember 'more.'
I love depictions of someone realizing they have a bit of temperature:
"I think you have a fever" - from someone else to the sickie. or...
"I feel too warm" - from the sickie to another person.
But can we talk about all the other symptoms of someone developing a fever? Those little details make the reading experience so much better. It makes you feel pity for the poor sickie.
I'd love to see more of these golden nuggets:
Glossy eyes/eyes tearing up involuntarily.
Feeling heavy and sluggish all day/struggling with body weakness.
Eyes stinging from the heat, causing them to rub them.
Being told they look restless/tired more than once.
Flushed face AND ears, shoulders and neck are great too.
REDDEN LIPS! have you ever seen a cold person istg-
Dazed / distracted look, like they're thinking all the time.
Little groans / whimpers when moving because it hurts.
Eyes tearing up NOT involuntarily, they feel really bad.
Saying they don't feel hungry/thirsty but downing water like crazy.
Tender throats when drinking cold things, makes them wince.
Given the last two points, choking on water. Classic.
Slow reflexes, they are more clumsy than usual. Swaying on feet.
Stuffed-up headaches, lightheaded and/or having dizziness spells.
Passing out momentarily/knocked out cold. Womp Womp/aff.
Body sore and achy, from fever and constantly banging on stuff.
Nausea from the dizziness, it may or may not end of throwing up.
Tummy aches related to the cause of the fever! Those are good.
Seeking warmth because they feel "cold". They're burning up.
Additionally, someone notices how hot they are. "You're cold???"
Having fever dreams before/after noticing the fever. Daww...
And my personal favorite...
They try to carry on their activities as usual with two extra layers of clothes on them, and feeling off but blaming it on anything other than being sick, then feeling like absolute shit after they realize they are running a fever and, probably, are very sick too.
What's your favorite telltale symptoms from someone with fever?
Not really adding anything new but sort of an amalgamation of what you already wrote:
Not being able to get comfortable.
Either feeling too hot or too cold (mainly too cold and shivering, poor thing).
Muscles aching.
Joints aching.
Beads of sweat gathering at their neck, upper lip or forehead, despite the chills running up and down their spine.
Dull pounding behind their fever hot and glazed eyes.
The normally so soft pyjama shirt or blanket suddenly feels coarse and rough on their sensitive feverish skin.
Tossing and turning (slowly, gently, while groaning from the discomfort) because no matter how tired they are, they are simply too uncomfortable to be able to fall asleep
Just. Feverish whumpee who is not able to get comfortable 🥺
When they’re too dazed to consume any sort of media. Their eyes hurt too much to watch TV. They can’t concentrate on a book. The radio or a podcast is too loud, even on the lowest setting. So they’re stuck, uncomfortable and bored, tired yet unable to sleep.
holy fuck NKFNKJNGKJ these are SO GOOD idk how i forgot about shivering! that's like one of the best parts of it 😆💖
I also love the sweating for the matter, I love when they go from just burning up like a hot stone, to be drenched in sweat like they've been running a marathon moments ago 🛐
kinda late on this one, but in my defense, i’m knees-deep in a fandom fic that i wanna get out before my next semester starts
BUT i plan to use your requests as a palette cleanser if my brain gets stuck, so feel free to send in 1-3 of these at once and i will do my best to live up what you expect of me :D
this year's prompts were chosen through an open suggestion poll (in which we received over 4,000 prompts) and a subsequent vote, where 5,019 votes were submitted. the top 28 make up the core prompts, and the febuwhump mod's favourites that remain have become the alternates. the first prompt in the 28, "vocal chords", was our number one prompt of the vote, with 1,625 total votes.
i am so insanely excited to see what you all create with these prompts, and i hope they're inspiring enough to trigger a whole month's worth of creativity for you!
as an extra added challenge, some creators will be undertaking another, smaller goal, of including apples in each of their prompt fills as an ode to the wildly popular prompt suggestion of "apples" that didn't make it through to the poll. this is totally optional, but is a good extra challenge if you'd like to take part in it!
if you have any questions, please check out the faq before sending an ask, or skim the blog's previously asked questions to see if your question has already been answered.
please note: notifying the blog of completionist status will happen through a google form released towards the end of febuwhump, and if you are interested in joining the febuwhmp discord server, the link will be available to do so for one week towards the end of january.

Trying to bandage Whumpee in the backseat of the car, but every bump jostles them and they're only becoming more in pain
Stitches with whatever the hell is in the cupholders and seat pockets, random needles and kitchen twine and some old hand sanitizer
A Whumpee saying they can walk, only for them to crumple like a ragdoll the second they're upright
Fear. So much fear. The slightest touch sends them into a panicked frenzy, scratching and kicking and clawing and hurting themselves more in the process. Caretaker as no choice but to hold them down even as that scares them more.
Weak, thready heartbeats and screams to the front seat to drive faster
Blood pooling on polyester, soaking Whumpee and Caretaker
The sun reflecting off the windows, burning their eyes, making Whumpee moan "It's too bright" while Caretaker panics because it's midnight
Shaking hands running through sweat-soaked, blood-soaked hair
"We're almost there. Hang on, I swear we're almost there now." Repeated like a mantra, but Whumpee can't even hear anymore.
Any prompts for whumpee calling their dad figure "dad" or something for the first time due to fear/injury?
WOULD LOVE TO, HAPPILY. this is my absolute jam, as my url may indicate. some concepts for this (which is one of my FAVE things generally - using Family Words, especially for the first time)
sudden realization that something terrible is about to happen - spotting a bomb or a pressure plate, seeing someone pull a gun, any kind of immediate and shocking danger, calling out in warning or in fear
nearly delirious with pain, being beaten or tortured, screaming for help - a little extra fun because there’s some potential here for like. does the father figure in question even know it happened? were they present or not even there? does the person hurting them use this to taunt father figure later - “they were calling for you, you know” etc.
slight variation if you’ve got a sinister/abusive father figure, can be begging the person hurting them to stop, calling them dad for the first time as they’re being hurt
another slight variation - painful wound care or medical treatment. it has to happen because they Need it but it hurts and they beg for it to stop or for help or just. saying ‘dad’ and ‘please’ without purpose, just saying it because they’re hurt and the pain won’t stop.
nightmares are SO good for this. in their sleep, just coming out of one, panicked and afraid and confused.
drug or fever or exhaustion induced disorientation and lowered inhibitions!!! yes!!! then you also get to play with whether they remember saying it later.
whumper forces them to make a ransom call or just a call to taunt the father figure, and either makes them say it - “go ahead, call your dad and beg to be saved” - or just makes them make the call and it slips out - “tell them how much it hurts, tell them what’s happened to you”
it always adds a little special something to Any situation like this for me when the whumpee has a bad relationship with their father/family and that’s like. in the background colouring this moment and impacting how it feels to say that name and for the father figure to hear it. chef kiss, yes please.
A magical spell that means their temperature rises in proximity to their teammate. They’re fine to keep their distance—until teammate breaks an ankle and they have to support them. Now they’re racing against the clock trying to break the curse, knowing that even the journey could kill them.
That little moment when Whumpee is very ill, lying in their bed at home, half-conscious, limp, and burning with fever. Caretaker is incredibly worried and mentioning taking Whumpee to a hospital. Suddenly Whumpee grabs Caretaker's hand with strength Caretaker didn't know they had, squeezing it as they gaze at Caretaker with more focus than they've seen all day.
"D-don't go."
The words are slurred and shaky, but paired with Whumpee's tears, the Caretaker can't even say no.
