“Okay, point,” Lea says with a chuckle. “They are for hitting. Just– ow, not me, okay? I got beat up with blunt objects enough this past year.” How many Keyblades have smacked him in the face at this point? Way too many. They didn’t even kill him, and still, way too many.
“I know that,” he says, his face going serious. “I wouldn’t want ‘em to forget.” He doesn’t want to go into his whole ‘memories are important’ spiel, mostly because it’ll be annoying, but yeah. He’s still uncomfortable about Sora forgetting CO, even if it’s also kind of a good thing. But still, other people remember it, so they can hold Axel accountable.
How does he even explain himself? He pauses and lets out a short, awkward laugh. “Didn’t think I’d get this far,” he admits. “I, uh–”
Sigh. “I know I’ve done a lot of crappy things, and– anything I say to explain it’s no excuse, but…” He gestures vaguely. “Being forced into a creepy cult at fifteen and being stuck there for ten years does a number on anyone.” Best way to explain it. “Sora helped me out, and now I’m…returning the favor, I guess, and trying to make up for the stuff I did before that. I owe him a lot, and I just…I dunno.” He laughs. “Anything else I say is gonna get sappy and sentimental real fast, and I don’t know if you wanna hear that.”
hayner only lets out a breath that holds a semblance of a chuckle, but he doesn’t allow it to get much further than that. “if you thought you wouldn’t get that far, how do you think i feel?” he shouldn’t give this guy a chance to even speak or defend himself, but he’s in a good enough mood where maybe he feels like listening. if he starts to say something that sounds like bullshit, hayner can always cut him off and tell him he’s full of shit.
it’s fine. this’ll be fine.
and for the most part he listens; eyes on lea’s face, arms crossed over his chest with the bat dangling from one of his hands like he means business. admitting that he’s done crappy things, check. reasoning (even though there’s no way hayner can check if it’s true or not), check. but sora, well, he can believe the thing about sora. the dude’s light and bright like the sun, nice enough that even hayner can pick that up from the small instance he knew him.
yeah, that’s one thing he can believe.
“what exactly did sora help you do?”
