What's one thing about your muse that you scrapped or changed later on?

OOC: Now that I think about it, I think everything about Charles has pretty much stayed the same since his very first concept; in regard to his original verse, at least. The only thing that ever really changed with him would be the style of hair (It’s a little more messy now) and I actually removed a hat he was supposed to be wearing all the time. It was because Charles feels too active to be wearing his hat and also, I didn’t want to draw it LMAO

As for other verses like Rozelle and Mosaic Zone, I changed up his species. He’s a red squirrel for the former verse and a tuxedo cat for the second. Aside from the obvious personality adjustments and tinkering of his history to have it match the new worlds he was placed in, he’s pretty much the same for the most part!

Wait. You're a dad?

I... [Charles pauses, then takes a moment to peek over at the little rodent that was sleeping not too far from him] I’m not the biological father, if that’s what you’re wondering. [He finally finished, voice coming off unusually soft. He didn’t want to risk waking Cooper up, so he was mindful of his volume] It’s, ah... [He brought up a hand to rub at his neck] ... a difficult situation, really. The little boy, Cooper, was handed off to me by some random stranger I didn’t even know. She got away before I could track her down. Who knows where she is now?

[He takes a breath before continuing] I guess you could say I’m... watching over him until we return to Emerald. I rather not leave him behind in Diamond. It’s far too cold out here, not to mention dangerous... And I’m not all too sure how to feel about the orphanages here either. [Charles lowered his hand from his neck, then crossed his arms over his chest. His gaze wandered off to the side, finger tapping against his arm as he thought to himself] 

I will admit, however, that Cooper is... sort of growing on me. [He mumbled, a ghost of a smile forming on his face]

[Charles gently tapped at his chin with a pencil, all while he stared down at a piece of paper with crimson eyes. He’d been so busy as of late, he nearly forgot about these. He found it a great comfort to see the young pup’s “reports” once again. He embraced the familiarity of its layout, as well as the questions it asked. They felt like a waste of time before, but now? He was starting to understand its purpose. He scanned over the chicken scratch, humming in thought. How was he feeling today?]

[As if on pure instinct, Charles nearly marked himself down as a “10″ on the happiness scale. He managed to stop himself before he could, however. The only reason why he’d even bother putting himself down as “happy” was to keep Belle from worrying about him. After all, she was only a child. She didn’t need to waste her time fretting over the troubles of someone else. He’d been trying to be more honest with these “reports” though. Not only for the girl’s sake, but for himself as well. Was he truly happy? He reconsidered his answer a second time; digging through his mind for a proper response]

[These past couple weeks have been rather hectic.Thinking about it left a sour taste in his mouth. He’d gone through another laborious dungeon. The guild wound up fighting not only one legendary, but three of them. They got themselves the Time Gear, only for it to be stolen by that god forsaken cult. People got hurt; more than he would’ve liked. He was stuck in the medical ward due to the injuries he sustained several days ago. It was all so... frustrating. If he weren’t so damn tired, he’d scream about it] 

[Charles sunk back in his bed, gaze drawing up to the ceiling above him. In spite of it all, there were a couple things worth remembering. He sighed, closing his eyes for a moment. The more he thought on it, the more they outweighed the negatives... or well, a part of him felt like they did. Everyone was recovering, albeit slowly. He glanced over to see a slumbering Midnight at his side. His family and loved ones were with him. Sure, it wasn’t enough to make all his troubles disappear. They did feel good to think about though, even if it was for a little bit]

[He opened his eyes again, then propped himself up careful. With his pen, he pressed it down against the paper and began to scribble down his answer. He decided he felt like a “4″ today]

[Charles fell quiet, then looked off to the side] Mm...

I suppose you’re right. “Surviving” is a little more different than... “being okay”. [His gaze fell to the ground, taking a moment to ponder; to put more thought into his answer] I guess you could say I’m... tired. Frustrated. [He sighed] A lot has been happening and I’m just... [Charles trailed off before he could finish] Nevermind.

Cooper could only respond in a giggle-fit as soon as he was picked up, beaming up at his father with a toothy grin as he pats Charles’ cheeks.

“Bapa!” he chirps again, smile falling as he frowns to be serious. Yes, he was doing his best to mimic a clear one of his dads. “Coogee!”

Charles’ face scrunched up as he felt two little hands patting at his cheeks; his eyelids squeezing shut and his lips pursing together into a fine line. He waited until Cooper was finished feeling at his face before opening his eyes again, giving the young rat a curious look. He watched as his toothy grin suddenly disappeared, only to be replaced with a frown. A serious one, too. Charles furrowed his brows in slight concern, wondering what could’ve caused this.

That feeling was quickly squashed when Cooper suddenly spouted a strange sounding word at him. It was in that moment when he realized that the Patrat was attempting to mimic someone, and that someone was none other than Charles himself. He stifled an amused snort as he gently set his son down onto his knee, quirking a brow. "What did you say?”

The detective could only hold his gaze for a few moments before slowly making his way down the makeshift gallery isle, taking his time to reply. “I saw your flyer.” He answered simply, eyes fixed on the array of illustrations before him. “If you didn’t expect people to come, you should probably go and take them down before parents start picking up their theatre and arts kids. They love this kind of thing.”

Midnight stopped in front of a particular piece. It wasn’t as vibrant as the rest, but it held a certain tone to it. Something quiet, but inviting. If one had to guess, the details of it were almost too specific to pin down to imagination, and felt like the recreation of a childhood memory; twisted to be more like home.

Carefully, he picks the canvas up, checking the back quickly before tapping the sides with a finger, and looks at Charles expectingly. How much? His look said.

“Wh...” Charles gave the detective a dumbfounded look. Was he serious? No, he had to be pulling his leg. Although, it was hard to tell with that face of his. That permanent half-smile, accompanied by a mysterious set of eyes. He could never guess what he was thinking. The squirrel turned his head away from Midnight, bringing up a hand to rub at the nape of his neck. “Two hundred and fifty,” he finally said.

He looked up at Midnight, pursing his lips together tightly as he waited for a response. Whenever he mentioned the price of his paintings, he was normally met with a snide comment of some kind. As a result, he was almost expecting to receive one from his partner too. There was, however, a small part of him that was hoping it’d be different this time around.

Valentines day is coming up, got anything planned?

Of course, I do. I have a little surprise in mind for Midnight, but I can’t say. He might see.

Paintings were the least of his concern when it came to decorating the wealth that Mr.Midnight called his home. Apparently, he believed scattering family photos and his kids awards and scribbles wherever he could- would make visitors feel more welcomed…and not like he owned a house elegant enough to be made by some famous architect.

To find himself at a neighbourly garage sale, was a bit unusual. But a dad can’t help himself from making a quick trip that wouldn’t hurt to visit, or at least get to know the people around the area. Perhaps it was only shocking when he found a familiar face sitting down, looking as though he’d rather read the newspaper (uncharacteristically, in Midnight’s opinion) but needed to pay attention as the host. In other words; be friendly and as inviting as his paintings.

Midnight found a spot to park his car easier than Charles could ever find his smile for a couple of strangers who only stood to window shop and no doubt thought they could do better than him. The detective was not that person. He was the dad that tried to compliment artists by saying that he can’t even draw a circle or a straight line. And he couldn’t.

“Didn’t know you had an eye for the arts, cowboy.” Midnight said, stepping over the concrete paths towards a display of figure paintings, right opposite Charles. He held his chin as he eyed the piece, before glancing up. “You made these?”

Charles was nearly about to space out in his seat until a familiar voice touched upon his ears. It didn’t take him very long to connect who it belonged to, which resulted a disgruntled grimace from the crimson squirrel. Oh god. It couldn’t be who he thought it was, right? Right? With his ears flattened against his head, he lifted his chin up from his hand by just a tad as he slowly drew his gaze upward.

Much to the man’s dismay, he found his partner from work standing right before him. He was casually taking a gander at one of his pieces, much like the other people who were there. As he bit back a groan, he lowered his head to rub at his forehead. The word “cowboy” echoed in his head. Ah, there it was. That dreaded nickname finding itself slipping from the canine’s lips once again. Where the hell did this even come from, anyways? Ugh. He couldn’t be assed to think on it too much.

Blatantly ignoring Midnight’s question, he decided to answer with a query of his own. “What...” He quietly began. “... Are you doing here?” He peeled his hand from his face, holding it up in the air as he stared up at Midnight.

Surrounded by colorful canvases, Charles could be found sitting among them in a fold-able, flimsy lawn chair. He was leaning forward, elbows propped onto his knees while he rested his chin in the palm of his right hand. The rodent watched in silence as strangers swung on by to visit his little “yard sale”, taking the time to stop and stare at the paintings he had put out for purchase. They were some of his favorite pieces... or at least, ones he had felt were worthy enough to be bought and hung up on the walls of other people’s homes.

What started off as a hobby became another means for Charles to rake in some dough. He was good at what he did, so why not take advantage of it? He might as well. While business wasn’t exactly booming, it was still nice to see the few people who did like his art enough to look at it. Of course, he wasn’t some big named artist. He was just your average guy who happened to like art enough to invest time and money into it. 

Charles didn’t expect people to come crawling to him with clumps of money in their hands, hoping to obtain pieces that he created. As much as he liked the thought, he had no other choice than to wait and see if he was lucky enough to find that one person who would.

[Charles takes one look in the direction of his supposed “creator”. His lips curl as they form a disgruntled frown, nose scrunching up all the while] They remind me of a trembling pup. 

Mun: Charles is my most self-indulgent character and with that in mind, it’s safe to say that I love him to bits. Although, I think he could be... a little more nicer. That’s just the inner baby talking, of course. The amount of times I’ve gotten anxious from roleplaying Charles being an absolute asshole is astounding. Then again, I made him this way.. so, I mean-- I have no one but myself to blame.

Mm... 

I suppose so. It’s... hard to say, really. [Charles shrugs his shoulders, then turns his head away. It was clear he was holding back, but it was hard to tell what it was exactly that he was hiding] There were good times and there were bad times.

My relatives are... still as rowdy as ever. In other words, they’re fine. 

[Charles rolls his eyes, then clicks his tongue] Jean-Paul has always been the type to show off. Ever since we were children, he adored being the center of attention. It’s just how he is.

Never took you as the "romance and dating" type. What was it like falling in love?

You’re not wrong to think that way of me. I never considered myself to be the “romance” type either. I mean… [Charles pauses, then turns his head away] I hardly was. “Love” was a subject I didn’t want to touch, seeing that I always had a weird relationship with it. 

[He closes his eyes as he furrows his brows in thought] Sure, I’ve had my fair share of puppy love here and there… but that was when I was a young boy. [He opens his eyes again, allowing his gaze to wander afterwards] As I grew older, love became the least of my worries. My job became a priority as more responsibilities were put onto my plate. I was simply… too busy to be dating. There were far more important things that needed my attention.

But y’know… [A ghost of a smile begins to form on his lips] Midnight really changed things up for me. My world began to look a little more… brighter now that he was in it. I… [It suddenly hits him just how sappy he was sounding at the moment. With a bashful huff, he decides to wrap it up] It felt nice. That’s all.
