look I know we all seem to understand on a deep level that Jesse absolutely deserves a happy, healthy life with his new identity in Alaska buuuut idk!! sometimes I also want a post canon Jesse who is still being eaten alive by his past lol. like give me a Jesse who can't sleep without leaving on every single light in his house. Jesse who can't stand even the jingling sound his car keys make bc it reminds him of the clink of a chain. Jesse who catches whiffs of Mr. White's aftershave and pencil shavings in random places and is momentarily paralyzed with fear (and probably some other less accessible more complicated emotions as well let's be real.) Jesse who still wretches at the sight of any kind of harness. Jesse who doesn't even drink alcohol anymore bc he doesn't want to let any of his defenses down even for a moment. Jesse who still secretly feels like he's being hunted and pursued by dangerous men. the way he tenses when any man over a certain age makes small talk with him at the hardware store. idk. post canon jesse is such an interesting area to explore, I always love hearing everyone's ideas about him
In a lot of ways it feels like El Camino is lying to the viewer. That it's Jesse consciously omitting and erasing things he doesn't want the audience to see. You don't get to see him getting tortured, you don't get to see what Todd or anyone else does to him beyond flashes and implications, you don't get to see him mourning Walt.
Even the ending feels like an omission. A dream where the line between reality and death is blurred.
People say "at least Jesse survived," but honestly, I don't think he did.
never not thinking about the fact that jane margolis would've survived if she'd been the little spoon 😔 but no, being a dominant alpha woman to her beloved boyfailure came first I guess 😔😔😔
im so stupid i just realized that these scenes have actually a similar energy
jesse couldnt pay up the cashier with money and convinced her to take the meth instead
while skyler dressed up over the top on purpose to play a bimbo in order to help ted and herself to get away with the investigation
these two...
I just sort of love this scene because of how Walt cannot make eye contact with Jesse. He wants to, but he keeps stealing his gaze away from him. And paradoxically, Jesse is also struggling to look at Walt, yet he keeps trying to gather something inside himself just to be able to look at him.
That is what makes the scene so good. Jesse looks like he genuinely wants to ask Walt why he put him through all of that, why he led him into so much torture and pain. Meanwhile, Walt keeps looking away, almost refusing to meet his eyes, because he already knows the real weight behind Jesse’s questions. He can sense it, he can feel it, but he cannot answer it or because he does not truly have an answer.
Because Walt realized how much this partnership had come to mean to him, how deeply developed and personal their connection had become. So even slightly looking at Jesse would mean acknowledging that bond, and Walt is terrified of that recognition. Because how could he ever explain hurting and letting go of something so unexplainably important to him? Something so significant?
So instead, he keeps looking away, dodging Jesse’s questions while still carrying the answer somewhere inside him. And that contradiction, knowing the truth yet refusing to fully articulate it, is what makes the entire scene feel so cathartic.

Light actually married L so he could find out his name
Yes.
But then nothing went according to keikaku: they started solving cases together, bought a house somewhere in the countryside in England, often went together to dinners to Light's parents, adopted a cat and named him Beyond (Light thinks it's a stupid name) and-
and then 10 years later Light is like wait a minute-
brainwashed/broken into marrying your rival bad end has been bouncing around in my head for a few days atp
empty eyed boyish housewife in a plain dress and an apron who doesn't seem like she's all there when she talks to you
she doesn't really speak much but when she does her voice is the softest thing you've ever heard. she's got a lot of scars covering her body but dresses to cover them and says she doesn't know how she got them. she can't remember much of anything anymore. she spends her days mostly wandering the house and doing chores but occasionally you'll see her walking to the market. one time you got a glimpse down her shirt and she was flat chested with no bra and her nipples were kind of puffy
she got harassed by a group of people on her walk today. they kept calling the name of an unfamiliar boy. one of them forced a sword into her hands and told her to try swinging it, that it might help her remember. it felt awkward and heavy in her hands, and when she tried swinging it it tipped out of her grasp and landed in the dirt. she was on the verge of tears and just kept telling them she just wanted to leave, but they continued trying to lead her away. she was lucky her wife had been close by and heard the commotion, rushing over and embracing her. the group seemed scared of her, for some reason. when they got home she was told she wouldn't be allowed to leave the house alone again for a while, in case they came back. she didn't argue it at all.

Aaron Paul in Daydreamer (2007)
it is actually fucking deranged that characters can just look at jesse and immediately tell that he was hurt by walter white. not just hurt, but like fucking wrecked. what an insane inversion of "show, don't tell". we've been shown for five seasons and now the show itself is telling us that yeah, Everyone can see it, it is a canon and in universe truth that one can look at jesse pinkman and see that he has been horribly fucking harmed.
'Walter White Is An Abuser' (Wired, 2013)
also mike in half measures talking about how much he hated wife beaters in philly and how much he wanted to help that poor girl get away from her shitty husband and she never listened and then he killed her after mike let him live. coughs anyway that’s literally the walt&jesse&mike dynamic of season 5a but we’re not ready for that conversation either
anyways…..i spent way too much time on this
