jj always loved tucking you into bed. the time when you start feeling sleepy and losing energy. you're running all around the house in your white socks and half of your pajamas. meanwhile he's already out of breath from chasing you. “i swear, if you don’t stop running—” he says, his voice almost a whisper as he stops to catch his breath.
you’re giggling, hiding behind the couch as you watch him slowly give up on running. “jayj!” you say, covering your mouth as you can’t stop yourself from laughing. “a'right, i give up. you win, sweetcheeks. come here, no more games.” he slowly approaches you, patting every object in the living room.
all of a sudden, you lose sight of him. the room grows calm, no sound can be heard. you slowly crawl out of your hiding place. “jayjay?” you whine, the fear of being abandoned starting to settle in your chest as you fail to see your brother anywhere. then you feel two hands grip your middle, lifting you from the floor. “time’s over, cupcake. you’re going to sleep,” he says in a softened voice, while frustration wells up inside you.
but you're still feeling full of energy; you have not an ounce of tiredness in you, and jj can tell it will be a chore to tuck you into bed tonight. "i'm not sleepy!" you squirm in his arms as he carries you to your room. you hear him sigh in annoyance as you keep wriggling in his arms.
he finally puts you down on the floor, letting you walk away from your bed. he has given up on tucking you in to sleep. "alright, do whatever you want. i ain't gonna force you to do anything," he says, turning his finger in a circular motion as he walks back to the living room.
you watch him leave before deciding to follow right behind him, trying not to giggle too loudly. as he sits down on the couch, he instantly pulls you onto him. "aren’t you a little monster, huh? but do you know what happens to kids like you who don’t want to sleep?" his tone is getting serious, almost scaring you.
you reach for his arm, your grip tightening around it as you keep listening to his tale. "they're getting eaten, especially little girls who misbehave toward their brothers." his smirk grows wider as he watches your eyes fill with fear, tears starting to prick.
he slowly runs his hand through your hair, then suddenly bursts out laughing as he watches the way you are about to cry. "just kidding. now you’d better go to sleep, sweetcheeks," he chuckled, cradling you a bit as you began to shiver in fear at the thought of that monster.
he stands up from the couch, carrying you in his arms to your bedroom. "jayj, m’scared," you mumble, looking up at him as he tucks you into bed. "nothing’s going to happen to you, a’right? i was just playing around, nothing more." he ruffles your hair before leaving a kiss on your forehead. "goodnight, cupcake," he whispers, then walks out of your room and locks the door behind him.
you bring the blanket up over your face, shivering in fear as you recall on what jj said earlier, tightly gripping your plushie against you, "jayj" a sob slips out of your mouth trying to be a brave girl.
after a while of shivering in fear in your bed, you finally decide to stand up and run to your brother's bedroom, tightly holding your plushie against you as tears flow down your cheeks. "jayj!" you sob as you walk past the door, waking him up.
he sits up on his bed. as soon as he opens his eyes, they land on you, crying your heart out, holding your teddy bear for dear life. he brings his hands toward you, reaching to pull you against him. "hey, hey, sweetcheeks, what's up, huh?" you snuggle into the crook of his neck, your fist gripping his shirt as you seek comfort. "i'm scared. i can't sleep. i wanna sleep with you," you sob in his arms.
he tries to hush you as he gently rubs your back. "it's okay, baby, you're safe, uh? jayj was only joking about the monster stuff," he whispers, leaving a kiss on your forehead. "your brother's here," he says gently. you slowly feel yourself calm down in his arms.
the grip on his shirt slowly loosens as you start to fall asleep in his arms. "good night, princess," he whispers, hugging you tightly while stroking your hair and cradling you in his arms.
