*straightens tin foil hat* there is something to be said about sydney 2000 then 9/11 roughly a year later and the huge surge in patriotism and then the smashing success of 2003 worlds and team USA and then the nbc quasi militaristic fluff about the national team (and the true birth of The Ranch and national team camps being so fucking insane and intense) and just all the fanfare about team USA after that point. then their objective success rode them out of that wave into legitimate celebration of results. hmmm.

Sacramone - to fall on a beam mount

Liukin - to perform a flyaway dismount on bars after several major errors (her real eponymous skill)

Kramarenko - to fuck up majorly and incomprehensibly, with disastrous results

Eaker - to submit an enquiry and have your D score lowered as a result instead of raised

Carey - to balk on a vault after the block and have to do a simple salto with no twists off the table

"these artistry requirements are unfair because some gymnasts are never going to be good at those things no matter how hard they work" yeah and some of my favs will blow out their ankles before they ever land a silivas but i'm not saying we should change the code because it's unfair that other people are rewarded for being capable of harder tumbling

well i guess earlier this year oys was literally dead/i thought it was all over for her after the surgery, so hitting ¾ beam routines, being the most consistent chn wag in tf, and top 8 aa finish with mistakes is much much more than i imagined a few months ago
