Wing Sang Building

Wing Sang Building is the oldest building in Chinatown established in 1889. It was named after Yip Sang (1845-1927), a businessman and community leader.Ā Ā As a businessman he startedĀ theĀ Wing Sang Company, which provided labour contracting for the Canadian Pacific Railway Company andĀ import/export business.Ā
Later he helped establish theĀ Chinese Benevolent Association of Vancouver, theĀ Chinese Board of Trade of VancouverĀ and Life Governor of theĀ Vancouver General Hospital. These organizations defended the community from racism and was the community hub for all Chinese citizens.Ā
Now the Wing Sang Building is home to a private art collection and can be viewed by appointment only.Ā
