It’s honestly heartbreaking that Amen not only had to witness his parents’ brutal murder, but was also forced to survive on the streets all alone 💔. That kind of trauma doesn’t just disappear. It shaped him into someone cold, detached, and merciless. You can tell his hatred toward Shesmu comes from a place of deep pain and resentment like he never truly healed, he just hardened.

What’s even more tragic is how you can see the contrast in his past. The flashbacks show he lived a sheltered life with loving, protective parents who clearly adored him 🥺. They tried to keep him safe, especially with his albinism and Saamon’s looming threats. That innocence was ripped away too fast, and now he’s built up all these emotional walls just to survive.

And that scene where he calls the street kids and people “miserable” because they still have the basics while he has nothing? It really put into perspective why he told Livius he was stuck up and privileged. It’s not just jealousy, it’s bitterness born from loss. The real reason he can’t stand Livius is because he sees in him the life he should’ve had.

The irony is they’re not that different. Both hunted by Saamon. Both powerful in their own ways. But Saamon’s interference set them on completely opposite paths. Amen became hardened by pain. Livius held onto compassion. It’s honestly so poetic and tragic at the same time.
