AITA for killing the mansions gardener?
I know the title sounds bad, but let me explain! I, Rat M, have been living in the attic of this mansion with some other rats for a while now and the owners don’t like us living there. They’ve set up cages around the house to put us in and even got a bunch of new cats!
One of the people who hated us being there was the gardener, he was rude and always tried to catch us! I was out exploring the garden one day and all of a sudden he came out of no where! I panicked and rushed into the pond where he followed me in! I joked about drowning him while I watched him flail around in the water trying to catch me…but then he genuinely started drowning, I don’t know if he couldn’t swim or something but he didn’t get out and genuinely actually died! Two of my fellow rats, both M, came over to see the commotion and seemed surprised at what I did. I told them to keep it a secret and not tell anyone as I knew I’d get in trouble from the big orange rat in charge (he hates us doing things we aren’t supposed to).
Later I told my friend the farmer rat, M, about what I had done and he seemed a bit shocked at first before understanding, I even told him that he could take over the garden and take care of the crops!
I stand by the fact though that I was saving not only my life, but my fellow rats too! As the self appointed Safety Rat I feel a great need to keep everyone safe, and shouldn’t killing one of the people after us count in that?
AITA for accidentally causing the gardener to drown and then keeping it a secret from everyone even if it’s protecting my friends and giving a job to another?
Edit: Some other rats have built a “grave” for the gardener next to the pond (it’s really just his clothes and skeleton…) I don’t know if it should make me feel worse or not
Edit 2: The family got a brand new gardener who is basically a twin of the old one and everyone’s acting like he’s always been there and nothing ever happened so….I guess I’m off the hook?
