this is way too much
this song...I can't believe it's over. I knew everything that was gonna happen in the movie yet I still cried at the end. in 2001 I embarked on a journey that has lasted 14 years. now that it's over I don't know what to do. Thank you JRR Tolkien for these amazing books and sending me on my adventure. Thank you Peter Jackson for bringing it to life. Thank you Howard Shore for the music you've created that will always have a special place in my heart. thank you Billy Boyd for giving the perfect ending. #lotr #hobbit #sadness #grateful #adventure #lastgoodbye
TODAY IN COMIC BOOK HISTORY: January 14, 1967
The 2nd Batgirl, and the most well known, made her debut in Detective Comics #359 as librarian and daughter of Gotham City’s police commissioner Jim Gordon, Barbara Gordon. The producers of the Batman TV series requested that DC come up with a new female character for Batman to interact with as a way to attract more female viewers. After her comic book debut she appeared later that year on the show, portrayed by Yvonne Craig. Her introduction was responsible for the series’ 3rd season and she was so popular she almost got her own TV series.
Barbara, a career woman with a doctorate in library science, is on her way to a costume party dressed as Batman. At the party she stops a kidnapping attempt on Bruce Wayne. This event led her to a career of crime fighting, despite Batman’s initial insistence that she give it up because of her gender. Barbara ignores this and went on to fight crime solo, assisting the Dynamic Duo from time to time.
Batgirl would go on to have a regular back-up story in Detective Comics and eventually branched out to other DC titles throughout the 60s & 70s. She eventually reveals her secret identity to her father (who had already figured it out) and decided to give up her career as Batgirl by moving to Washington D.C and serving in the house of representatives. However she is brought back a year later as Batgirl where she fights along Superman and establishes their friendship as well as befriending Supergirl. Batgirl also went on to star in her own series along with the original Robin, Dick Grayson.
In Batgirl Special #1 Barbara retires and passes on her alter ego to another. Later that same year Barbara shows up in one of the most famous Batman stories of all time, The Killing Joke, where she is shot and paralyzed by The Joker. Determined not to let the character fall into obscurity, Barbara Gordon was brought back as Oracle in Suicide Squad, offering her services to the government’s Task Force X.
In the early 90s Oracle became Batman’s sole source of information and established her as Batman’s intellectual equal. Realizing she could be of great help fighting crime in a world increasingly centered around technology and information, she puts her photographic memory, genius-level intellect, deep knowledge of computers and hacking skills to good use. Eventually Oracle headlined the Birds of Prey series along with Black Canary and Huntress.
There is one other popular version of Barbara Gordon. In the Timmverse (Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures & Batman Beyond) the events of The Killing Joke has yet to happen or will never happen. Barbara remains Batgirl throughout BTAS & TNBA. In Batman Beyond she is the police commissioner of Gotham and it’s revealed she had a romantic relationship with Batman (Bruce Wayne).

This is how you handle getting your privileged called out.
Not “reverse racism!” Not “heterophobe!” and all those other dynamics that don’t exist. Just recognition. Recognition of privilege (and hopefully continuous self-checking)

Sometimes I’m like “ancient greek plays are so old, how am i going to relate to the characters?” but then
