17. soft spot headcanon
this isnât a headcanon so much as actual canon but tuff loves all the weird, scary, spiky dragons (& other animals) and thatâs that. Tuff seeing a very dangerous dragon: omggggggg i gotta touch it.
alsoâŚ. he has a soft spot for unwanted things. heâs the person who buys the products with the beat up boxes and asks astrid to turn around and go back to the store so he can buy the ugly lemon. he knows what itâs like to be unwanted, and he doesnât want anything else to feel that way, even inanimate objects.
whilst im on this when will we get tuff and his 5 adopted children who are the grossest, grottiest slimey kids in the world who he picked up through a ridiculous series of events including accidental baby acquisition, stealing a kid from an abusive family and like picking them up off the side of the road. he has a major soft spot for (all kids i feel but particularily) any kid thatâs unwanted in some way. tuff is good with kids ok bye

Do you know how hiccup and tuffnut are an underrated duo and seem way closer than you actually might think. These two boys are complete polar opposites but share a genuine bond on or âoff cameraâ (all the stuff thats not shown during the episode or films.) Which baffles me that how you have the only two females of the main 6 be bitchy towards each other and dedicate a WHOLE episode of them fighting in rtte to establish that point.
It really irritates me on how to get astrid a best friend (besides hiccup) is to add another woman into the series just for the sake of astrid having a weapon buddy or someone to have girl time with when ruffnut was LITERALLY RIGHT THERE!!

It was that one episode where the twins cousin, gruffnut, came back in town and was causing trouble idk. I donât really remember but somehow hiccup thought tuff was gruffnut and said âI think I know one of my best friends when I see him.â from this moment on, we now know hiccup refers to tuff as his BEST FRIEND. not just a teammate, dragon rider, or a friend, but a BEST FRIEND!!!
even though WE can see their unique bond behind the 4th wall, It seems like tuffnut is truly shocked by what hiccup thinks of him, or in this case, refers to him as. the impression of each other is a bit unrequited, which explains why tuff thought hiccup didnât think of him like that. if tuffnut wouldâve had been more attentive to him and hiccup interacting, (disregarding the scolding and lectures), then he couldâve been a lot more closer to hiccup sooner than he expected to be.
huh, in httyd 3, it seems like theyâve become more closer. or at least one of them has and the other just deals with it. in the third movie, tuffnut looks like heâs embraced in upping his friendship with hiccup. for example, he gets WAY more touchy and is all up in his personal space than what weâve seen in rtte.
people finna pull the âhe just acted that way to bring up marriage between him and astrid.â or âhe was only a comedic relief to the film.â
The writers definitely chose tuffnut not to only be his âbest manâ but chose him to be hiccups literal mentor throughout the movie (alongside gobber obvi)

a list of my headcanons about tuffnut in modern au because i just love him so much (he's secretly my special interest):
even though we all agreed that him and ruff would be metalheads i also think that he would enjoy house/techno/edm
his worst enemy would be the wind cuz he would be wearing 3xl jeans and xxl sweater to hide his noodleness (not like he's ashamed of it but oversized clothing just gives him a sense of comfort)
really chill guy but goes crazy when someone offends something/someone he really values; would even try to fight in order to protect his closest (wanted to specify that it's about ruffnut but being honest she can protect herself on her own)
either absolutely would not go to university/college and end up bartending OR go to the hardest major ever finish the school but then still do random shit like dj-ing
loves to study languages but there's no one to practice with so he eventually loses all his knowledge + he LOVES studying grammar and conjugation and all this kind of stuff
i imagine him as someone who would be considered "ugly hot" or whatever so he would actually have a lot of female (and male...WHO SAID THAT) attention and either will never take it anywhere serious or try to hook up with everyone and ending up disappointed in everyone including himself but jumping straight into new situationship to do not be alone
