This is my First Year Showreel, an accumulation of my favourite projects of the year. Enjoy!

Here is an example of my sketchbook work. Looking at camera angles and developing characters for my future projects.

An assignment we did during our 1st year was Speed Drawing. Minute drawing of people in situ. Over the summer I took this and developed ‘Rude People at Work’. At work I would unfavourably draw costumers at work as a way to get back at them if they annoyed me. This was a good way to let go of the annoyance I felt during my shifts.

This is part of my year two Professional Practice Module. We have to collaborate with Fashion Media Marketing and Contemporary Media Practice to make a fashion film. The brief we were given was to take a colour from the Union Jack and make it a primary colour throughout the film. We were given White. In the context of the Union Jack this represents the white saltire of St Andrew for Scotland. The Fashion students wanted Ted Baker to be the brand they were representing. This piece is heavily inspired by Dior’s 2012 campaign ‘And Dior Created Woman’ and Wes Anderson’s 2016 H&M campaign ‘Come Together’. They wanted live action with accents of animation throughout, I have visualised this within the animatic by using stock images with the animated section drawn over them. To link the saltire of Scotland the music used is a Scottish band Belle and Sebastian.

Overall I am happy with the pre-production of the this project and are excited for the final outcome.

During the summer I made these colleges from Glamour and Cosmopolitan magazines I accumulated over the year. The purpose of this was to find different colour palettes I could incorporate into my work during the oncoming year.

Our hit the ground running project was to find a Haiku that we could record and animate. I chose Issa’s poem as it reminded me of the beat writers of the 50′s. I could easily stylise the poem. I was inspired by the opening scene of Fargo (1996) and Joanna Priestley’s abstract work. The dimensions were purposely portrait to fit a screen of an iphone or ipad.

This is based on the concept of ‘accurate’ memories. Is our most remembered memory accurate? Adapted from my most vivid memory of when I was 14, me and a friend spent our pocket money on cheap energy drink. Drank the whole lot, and played on a tire swing, not long after this I was violently sick into a near by bin. I wanted to experiment with colour and narrative for this piece.

Looking at creating character, our assignment was based around the famous task ‘The Flour Sack’. This is so we cannot rely on facial expression, but movement instead. This is my version featuring a cool cat in a small town.

Here is a super quick assignment I wanted to share. Based off my original character, Sid. I have been developing him since my mid-teens. He started off as a badly drawn Daniel Johnston reference. And know he’s my best friend, someone who has been with me throughout my turbulent life.

Storyboard for a collaboration with A. R. Creswick. ‘A response to The Bloody Chamber’ which is adapted from The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter. This is one of the first books we both read together. There is a lot of sentimental value for this collaboration. After a few phones calls I was told I had full responsibility of the visual language. Though we agreed on the colour palette to be black, white, red and gold. Which is a new venture for me to stray away from garish bright colours. I focused on the image provoking words that I wanted to visually represent. After roughly sketching thumbnails, I drew up the story board. A problem that I quickly discovered was that as this was also an uni assignment I did not have the time to sketch out the whole poem. It was difficult to decide on the ending sentence as I was not the writer. I can now see the difficulty of adapting literature onto screen.
