more janeway thoughts

-her little holodeck governess novel is hilarious. it starts out like a brontë knockoff and then takes a HARD spin into turn of the screw creepification. did she write this? the program is "janeway lambda one" but I don't know if her name on the file means she wrote the script, or gave the holodeck ai a prompt to improvise from, or just that it's the program she's using right now. whatever, it's delightful. and gives her a historical costuming excuse for her INCREDIBLY weird hair

-which unfortunately with the premiere of season two has gone from threat level old lady wakefield all the way to four-alarm gibson girl. if we don't reverse course we will be at lady tremaine from cinderella by the end of this season. please captain ma'am your hair looks so cute when you do that tucked-under chignon thing 😭

-in the (INCREDIBLY EMOTIONAL) episode with the scientist who invented the bomb that killed neelix's family, there was this moment where the scientist had nefariously deactivated the doctor, and janeway called down to med bay and got no response and was like "computer! activate emergency holographic medical program!" and over the doctor's automated "hello please state the nature of your medical--" she said "doctor! what the hell is going on down there!" in this way that just killed me. because he's a member of her crew. her demeanor is so-- "where is my trusted man on the ground? there he is! now I'll get to the bottom of this!" I LOVE it she's so authoritative and businesslike and affectionate at the same time. because the affection is important. her love and trust and understanding and respect for her shipmates is as important a component of her authority and her responsibility as her intelligence and her competence and her excitement to seek out new worlds

-when amelia earhart first popped up I was like oh what is this pandering fauxmenist grrl power nonsense, just because janeway is a woman doesn't mean you have to drag amelia fucking earhart into it. but then that episode ended up completely kicking ass. actually there have been several episodes like that where the premise sounded so dumb but the actors knocked it out of the damn park. as sisko would say
