I know this transformation is painful but you’re not falling apart; you’re just falling into something different, with a new capacity to be beautiful.

What happens when you put a boy in front of a girl and ask him to….
It’s 5:04am. I still have my night guard in my mouth. My eyes generally open between the hours of 4 -5am. It used to be 3am at the height of my insomnia last year and I couldn’t go back to sleep, flushing my productivity level and quality of life straight down the drain. But these days, my eyes naturally open at around five. Then I lie in bed for an hour or so and force myself back asleep to wake up with rest of the world. Be normal.
But sometimes I lay there thinking about all the stories I’ve heard about the 5am’ers. The lawyer who hated his career and wanted to be a writer so he woke up at 5am every day to write before going to work. The athletes who get up at 5am to train or teach classes. The mother up and blogging before her kids get up and take over her world.
If you have a 9 to 5 that you hate but “don’t have time” to pursue what you really want because you have a full time job and by the time you get home, eat dinner, unwind, go to the gym, spend some time with your family or partner, there’s nothing left but to take your sleeping pills, put in your night guard, and repeat the cycle all over again, I want you to think about two things.
1. If you were to wake up at 5am, you’d have roughly 3 hours to work before work. If you did this M-F and slept in on the weekends, you would basically have a part time job dedicated to transitioning out of your miserable job / career to build something that puts a fire in your belly.
2. Normal will never bring you success. The “norm” is unhealthy and unhappy. The “norm” make excuses. The “norm” are afraid. The “norm” sleep until 8. It’s the abnormal who end up making ripples in this world. The freaks. The crazies. The 5am’ers. The stories you hear about and think WTF or “man, I wish I could do that”. The truth is you can. The question is how bad do you want it? But know that It’s not just the action. In this case, getting up at 5am. It’s what’s behind it. Anyone who is willing to break comfortable patterns is fueled by something. They are acting on a belief. Mostly likely a wild one. Or abnormal. At some point they asked themselves a what if question, the two words anyone who’s done amazing things have asked themselves. The behaviors that follow that question turns into a mindset. This mindset becomes your engine.
You want to live different? You want change? You want magic in your life? It doesn’t just happen. You have to create space for it to spark and grow.
I guess the next question is “What’s at stake if you don’t?”
