A chaotic 20 year old develops a hopeless crush on her brother Sunoo's quiet roommate, Park Sunghoon. While Sunghoon acts distant at first and only sees her as Sunoo's little sister, he slowly finds himself drawn to her, leading to secret late night hangouts and a relationship hidden behind Sunoo's back.
warnings: crack/humor, cringe fail female lead, profanity, mutual pining (eventually), light stalking, secret relationship
song rec: eyes don’t lie - Isabel Larosa
the party was way louder than y/n expected.
sunoo’s apartment was packed with people laughing over each other, music shaking the walls, someone yelling from the kitchen every five minutes. haerin and yujin disappeared almost instantly, leaving y/n stranded on the couch pretending to scroll on her phone while secretly avoiding one specific person.
unfortunately, sunghoon kept appearing everywhere.
leaning against the wall talking to his friends with that lazy expression that irritated her for no reason.
every time she accidentally looked over, he’d already be looking away first like he hadn’t noticed her at all.
by midnight, y/n was exhausted.
her social battery was dead, her head hurt, and the apartment suddenly felt too warm.
she spotted Sunoo across the room and texted him instead.
y/n: im stealing your room for 20 minutes
y/n slipped away from the crowd and walked down the hallway, barely paying attention before pushing open the familiar bedroom door.
she sighed in relief and collapsed face-first onto the bed without even turning on the light.
the mattress smelled faintly like clean laundry and some cologne she didn’t recognize. she was too tired to think about it. pulling the blanket closer, she closed her eyes almost immediately.
a few minutes later, the bedroom door opened.
y/n barely reacted until she heard:
“…why are you in my bed?”
sunghoon stood in the doorway holding a water bottle, frozen mid-step.
“…your room?” she said slowly.
sunghoon stared at her for another second before letting out a quiet laugh through his nose.
“sunoo switched rooms with me last month.”
y/n sat up so fast she almost fell off the bed.
“I thought this was Sunoo’s room—”
his voice was annoyingly calm about it.
she pushed hair out of her face, mortified. “why didn’t he tell me?”
“he probably thought it was funny.”
“that actually sounds like him.”
sunghoon stepped further inside, setting the water bottle on the desk. “you can stay if you want.”
“you looked half-dead downstairs.”
“…that’s the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.”
she narrowed her eyes at him while he grabbed a hoodie from the chair like this situation was completely normal.
“aren’t you gonna kick me out?”
sunghoon glanced at her briefly.
“you already stole the blankets anyway.”
the room stayed quiet after that.
sunghoon sat backwards in his desk chair while y/n stayed wrapped in his blanket like she belonged there.
neither of them mentioned how weird this was.
or how it should’ve been weird.
downstairs, the party kept going without them.
“you disappeared,” sunghoon said eventually.
y/n looked up. “you noticed?”
he shrugged. “you’re loud, how could i not notice you?”
“I’m literally sitting here quietly.”
“you’re loud even when you’re quiet.”
a small smile pulled at the corner of his mouth before disappearing again.
“you were avoiding me downstairs,” she said.
y/n smiled a little. “you’re bad at lying.”
she looked around properly this time.
his hoodie thrown over a chair.
headphones tangled near the desk.
half-empty water bottles.
for some reason, seeing parts of his life scattered around made her more nervous than talking to him online ever did.
“me last wording you was a bit dramatic sorry,” she mumbled.
“you being my friend’s sister was more dramatic.”
y/n threw a pillow at him.
“you keep attacking me,” he said.
he stood up to put the pillow back.
he stayed standing there.
close enough now that y/n had to tilt her head up slightly.
downstairs, people screamed lyrics to some song.
someone dropped something in the kitchen.
but inside the room everything stayed quiet.
“you make this difficult,” Sunghoon said.
he looked at her for a second too long.
then looked away, then back.
“you’re highly staring at me right now,” she whispered.
“hard not to when you’re looking at me like i’m some prey.”
she hated that she liked the sound of it.
his eyes dropped briefly to her lips, then back up.
he kissed her, it was soft, short, like he was testing something, like he expected her to pull away.
when they separated, neither spoke for a few seconds.
then y/n’s phone buzzed loudly in the silence.
sunoo: where are you??? also have you seen sunghoon
y/n stared at the message, slowly looked up.
sunghoon was already looking at her phone screen.
“…this is bad,” she whispered.
a/n: the writing part is short bcs i feel like i’m not good at writing (literally keep looking up for synonyms LOL)
