What part of “i don’t wanna spend anymore money” don’t I understand
Literally
It’s sad how much of what is taught in school is useless to over 99% of the population.
There are literally math concepts taught in high school and middle school that are only used in extremely specialized fields or that are even so outdated they aren’t used anymore!
I took calculus my senior year of high school, and I really liked the way our teacher framed this on the first day of class.
He asked somebody to raise their hand and ask him when we would use calculus in our everyday life. So one student rose their hand and asked, “When are we going to use this in our everyday life?”
“NEVER!!” the teacher exclaimed. “You will never use calculus in your normal, everyday life. In fact, very few of you will use it in your professional careers either.” Then he paused. “So would you like to know why should care?”
Several us nodded.
He picked out one of the varsity football players in the class. “You practice football a lot during the week, right Tim?” asked the teacher.
“Yeah,” replied Tim. “Almost every day.”
“Do you and your teammates ever lift weights during practice?”
“Yeah. Tuesdays and Thursdays we spend a lot of practice in the weight room.”
“But why?” asked the teacher. “Is there ever going to be a play your coach tells you use during a game that requires you to bench press the other team?”
“No, of course not.”
“Then why lift weights?”
“Because it makes us stronger,” said Tim.
“Bingo!!” said the teacher. “It’s the same thing with calculus. You’re not here because you’re going to use calculus in your everyday life. You’re here because calculus is weightlifting for your brain.”
And I’ve never forgotten that.
THIS.
When it’s taught right, learning math teaches you logic and how to organize your brain, how to take a problem one step at a time and make sure every step can bear weight before you move to the next one. Most adults don’t need to know integrals, but goddamn if I don’t wish everyone making arguments on the internet understood geometric proofs.
Scientific concepts broaden our understanding of how the world is put together, which does not mean that most adults ever really understand how light is refracted through a lens or why spinning copper wire creates electricity–and they don’t need to. But science classes in general are meant to teach the scientific method: how to make observations and use them to draw conclusions, how to test those conclusions, how to be wrong and grow stronger from it.
History isn’t about dates and names of battles, it’s about people, patterns, things we’ve tried before and ought to learn from. It’s about how everything is linked, how changing one circumstance can lead to changes in fifty others, cascading infinitely. Literature is about critical thinking, pattern recognition, learning to listen to what somebody is saying and decide what it means to you, how you feel about it, and what you want to do with it.
Some facts matter: every adult should know how to read a graph, how global warming works, some of the basic themes and symbols that crop up in every piece of fiction. But ultimately, content is less important later in life than context.
The good thing is, students who learn the content are likely to pick up at least some of the context, some of the patterns of thinking, even if they don’t realize it. (The unfortunate thing is how the current educational system prioritizes content so much that a lot of students, and a lot of adults, don’t see the point in learning either, and teachers are overworked and held to standardize test grading scales such that it’s hard for them to emphasize patterns of thinking over rote memorization, etc etc etc, but that is a whole different discussion.)
thank u <3
Hi! I really love your work and I’ve been wanting to start customizing myself, but im not sure how i should start. I want to practice doing face ups and making clothes, but i have no experience with sewing or drawing on a dolls’ face. Do you have a suggestion on a good small project you would recommend for beginners to not get discouraged or confused? Thank you so much for reading.
It’s great that you want to start customising!
For a nice simple project to start off with, I’d suggest something like Shopkins Shoppies! They’re still available in stores and are relatively cheap, have super cute colour palettes, and a nice flat face to practise your first faceups! Otherwise, any doll that has nice hair (that you don’t have to reroot) would be a good way to start off. Look for things like Monster High, Ever After High, Disney Descendants, Hairdorables, and DC Super Hero Girls in thrift stores or your local secondhand marketplace.
For the faceups watch lots of YouTube tutorials by artists like miasdaydream, hextian, dollightful, blankspacedolls, and enchantarium. There’s lots you can do, but they mostly all have a back-to-basics tutorial with all the fundamental materials.
For outfit making I recommend picking up a couple of patterns from Dollightfulstore or DGrequiem on Etsy! They’re both quite easy to follow even if you have little sewing experience.
All the best on your doll-making journey!
This is my mini me! After nearly five years in the hobby I finally made a doll of myself 😅 She’s a Descendant’s Jane head and Barbie mtm body~
My mini gf is a Cleo head and curvy mtm body, but she’s getting a rework soon 🙌

It’s that time of year folks
If your faceup is awful, I’ll hit like. If it’s awesome, I’ll hit like. If your sculpting is terrible, like. Awesome? Also like. Same for the clothes you make your dolls. And the props. And the grainy photos and the awesome photos. Because it doesn’t matter if it’s awful, amazing or anything in between. You did stuff with your dolls, you’re loving them the same as I love mine. That shows, and that’s what matters to me.

Can’t hit reblog fast enough! I agree with this 10000%
Meet Milky Way!!! My resinsoul centaur sparkleboy is almost done!!!!! They were awesome enough to do a custom color for me - I asked for translucent blue so I could turn him into a space themed something or other hahaha. This was a fun project doll! Normally mine are all character based, or unfinished. It was really satisfying to paint him! The glitter and gold shimmer doesn’t photograph at all. Also my walls are yellow so shitty photos for meeeeee. Gonna get him a different wig and make him gold horns and jewelry next :3
so pretty!

reasons to love harrison ford
1. hates donald trump 2. got his ear pierced at claires because why not 3. legit asks people to beat him up in action scenes EVEN NOW AS AN OLD MAN 4. is arguably one of the most iconic star wars characters yet couldnt give less of a crap abt star wars 5. the universe tried to kill him (or at least permanently incapacitate him) twice in 2015 and it only mildly inconvenienced him 6. flies helicopters in search and rescue missions 7. was in his 40s for the majority of the indiana jones series which is insane when you think about all the stunts involved 8. quote “the director yells cut and harrison cracks open a beer and then builds a fucking shed” 9. arguably sexy 10. points angrily and its super effective
11. is just a really sweet person 12. no really my dad worked with him on firewall as the tech advisor and he was just a really swell guy 13. got my mom’s birth date from my dad and sent her flowers 14. he sent my mom flowers for her birthday 15. he didn’t even know her he just wanted to be sweet

When he was asked to be in Jimmy Kimmel’s “I’m Fucking Ben Affleck” video, in which he pulled up alongside them in a car and gave Jimmy a little wink and an air-kiss, when he showed up at the set he looked kind of put out. Kimmel was afraid he wasn’t down with what they were asking. But he just said, “I don’t know, this wardrobe…don’t you have anything mesh that I could wear?”
When he was filming “Witness” he rented a small farm from a friend of mine. At the end of the filming my friend went and checked out the property as usual. He noticed the barn door had been leveled so it no longer would swing open on it’s own. Went into the house and saw the closets had been redone, in the kitchen the cabinets had been replaced and all the drawers now opened really well. Turns out that there were thousands of dollars of work and materials put into fixing up everything at the place.
My friend called Ford and asked him how much he was asking for the work. Ford told him doing that kind of thing helped him relax and stay sane when he was filming. Would not take a dime. Plus he paid for a new water heater and got the sewage system cleaned out.
And he paid rent to live there the entire time.
