Valoren was never meant to fall in love.

He was going to be a villain and a heartbreaker and a lesson. First, in the Watsonian sense: he was so sure that was his lot in life, to the point where he believed he was incapable of love. Additionally, in the Doylist sense: I was admittedly bitter with other writers who wanted to “fix him” and thought their character was the exception. I had brought him to FFXIV after a string of awful BG3 roleplay partners. Apollo ( @abstinencesupreme ‘s character) was the first character I wrote him interacting with in FFXIV.

Apollo was never meant to fall in love, either. He was a retainer for several years, and when he was made as a standalone character, it was because his player was also bitter about everyone always trying to write sex and romance. I was her first writing partner after her hiatus, and Valoren was the first character she wrote Apollo interacting with.

The lowest point of Valoren’s life was when he left Ishgard. Fleeing his sister’s murder, he was essentially headed to Dravania to die. That was supposed to be the end for him. And then the malfunctioning Idyllshire aetheryte sent him literally falling on top of Apollo. And the end turned into once upon a time.

Their stories started the moment they met. They’re living in their happily ever after.

what farming items in mmorpgs has taught me: i used to think using ice trays to make ice cubes was free but after thinking about it i have to pay the electric bill to power the freezer so every moment that i’m not freezing new trays of ice cubes is a moment that i’m underutilizing the freezer and increasing the cost of ice cubes. i have to constantly swap out ice trays for new ice cubes on an hourly rotation on a 24 hour basis or else i won’t produce the maximum amount of ice cubes possible and will underutilize the full potential of my electric bill. i need to stop using all other appliances and utilities in my home to make more ice cubes
