Hey it's been a while, sorry about that ^^; I've been working on a side project to help to improve on skills. Also I have gotten a new job I have been more busy so haven't had a lot of time to get stuff done. 💥 Everything still looks very rough/placeholder like as I haven't worked on the art assets, as I enjoy getting the main event logic down. So please do ignore how rough everything looks in this old clip that shows off the title screen, menu, and save/load screen ^^;

Hello, apologizes for being super late replying to this been all over the place and haven't had time to fully write out a response. I'm really thankful you are still looking over my progress also always wanting to send me an ask, really means a lot. I've been doing alright like above been all over the place with dev work, hobbies, and taking classes to help with getting a job not related to game dev as this is a hobby (also the industry scares me), though at times I do struggle with imposter syndrome thinking I'm not good enough or smart enough but rn I feel confident in myself (I need to work on my hw...) ;v; means a lot you loved Verloren's demo, I really need to kick myself to work harder as I really want to put out a newer demo as the old one is a bit outdated. The newer one would be longer and have different mechanics which the original didn't have also I can show off my 2nd favorite character bc I need to give him screen time. Though that demo would probably happen when I make a ton of progress on the game like it's close to being done. Or maybe I just hold off and drop the whole game and everyone looks to me because I've change things. The main premise is the same just I changed things idk if anyone is interested I can ramble in a different post about the changes. I still care for the demo I posted in 2020, really want to get the game done so everyone can see the story and characters who been spinning in my head for 7ish years... I keep telling myself to stop hoarding what I'm doing but it's easy to say as I'm often going back hoarding bc perfectionism so here's a few things I've worked on: This isn't the 2nd fav but he's another character who wasn't in the demo, his name is Wally and would be another companion character who would help Chris with his journey. (very sketchy)

Been reworking the inspect system as you can see the thought bubble leaves after certain objects are gone, using thought bubbles to avoid a problem I always face in rpg maker games which is being confused what leads to progression so I often smack the character onto everything until I find the correct thing which triggers progression. Want to just make it clear what is decoration vs actual importance intractable objects.

(this isn't how this map will look I just through it together for testing purposes) This was posted on my Bluesky (X) which I will try to use semi more, I need to go back finishing this but was using a unrelated oc who isn't a character in the game to help me figure out the portrait style.

Was mainly influences by the style of these portraits, still need to go back to figure it out tho.

Tho I shall stop dev rambling as this wasn't an ask for any updates but just thought to share some things I've been doing.

Tbh I get worry about posting about non dev related things here, I did have a personal blog but I haven't used that one in years plus it was mainly to reblog stuff I liked. Worried it would feel like opening the floodgates as it would led to a lot of rambling like for example I'll just post a few things I've been doing on the side if anyone is interested (This is all going to jump around a bunch super sorry.) For starters I like Project Sekai mainly bc I am a vocal synth fan, I do have a lot of scores saved mainly full combos but I'll just post my current FC counter (there's songs I haven't played yet bc lazy)

The 8/27 is because that is Mizuki's birthday which I am a very normal Mizuki fan I only have a few of her 4 star cards and have somewhat tier <- 100% normal fan (don't speak to me about not getting the new year card...)

(yes I have a discord server to plan a year in advance which cards I'm saving for) I don't have a screenshot of the event itself but for her 1st mix event I got T1k (i've been here since the global beta testing before day 1. Tbh I knew of the game before global was announce)

I didn't tier for this one bc I am saving for E5 so this is my worst one.... (I should find people to help with E5 Mizuki) but I care for my dother <- owns 3 plushies and almost all the CDs with her commissions songs and has preorder the newest one on amiami She is just my silly who makes me happy ANYWAYS speaking of gacha games I got back into the hole which is HSR, I am behind in the plot but it's just been the game I open to stare at my wife who took a billion pulls to get then I close it. I love him...

Btw I am F2P I will never spend money on a gacha again looking back on my genshin days I wasted 90 bucks on a game i don't play anymore like it's been 3 or 4 years. I just often farm like crazy and save until the thing I really want is here. Moving away from Gacha but still on the topic of gaming, one of my friends they convince me to get into Retro Achievements which is a fun site to use when you are playing games to collect achievements. So far the sets I've done is Okage: Shadow King and Pokemon Channel.

There's other games I've been doing the sets for but I am a fool that picks games with 100+ achievements. Another thing that same friend above got me into is learning HTML and CSS so I have been working on a website on the side which you can see here: https://choko.neocities.org/ Really want to make a page for Verloren on it, feel that would be cute

RN it's very bare bones at the moment also not mobile friendly, I need to work on that. The only page which works at the moment is the about section but it's also a wip mess.

Do plan on getting a media diary page done as I've been keeping track of everything I've watched, played, or read. I needs some more work but at the moment it looks like this

Umm I guess art idk we are jumping around, I've been stuck thinking about characters for a campaign which hasn't started yet. He is my silly (the dude who I was making pixel art above) I often spam my friends doodles of him bc he has become my favorite oc to draw and he's just a npc to my player character of the campaign.

One day I'll make a full drawing of him so then I can shove him into the faces of people. (I been working on a oc page on my site so if I get that up any info of him will be there also other ocs) I guess if any of these are interested I could start making post about this stuff more, super sorry that you asked something which turned into me full on rambling. I suppose this can be used as a test to see if anyone else would be interested. ^^b thank you again for sending an ask, I hope this wasn't like too much rambling. I posted this on my twitter so it only is fair to post it here, a little preview of game mechanic stuff I've been working on. (everything still placeholder graphics since it's the debug room) ^^b took a while to make the movable platforms work well with a pushable block (like making rpg maker know when the block is ontop or suppose to be behind the platform took a lot of random workarounds OTL), this isn't that big update post I want to do but I think it's fine to show the little things I've been doing rather than going away for many years again. ^^b hope everyone is having a nice Saturday!!!

Hey, so I want to play Desolate Village but I can't download it... is there a chance that I can get to play it?

Very late with this too, DV is a game I took down bc I'm not super proud of it. There was a short time back in 2019 I had the game page back up but then I took it down again after feeling anxious with the page being up. It's just a game I don't like seeing displayed on my itch.io page. I'll try to warm up to the idea of adding a password to the game for those who want to play it but the idea of people playing it just makes me very uncomfortable, just a bad cringe reaction I have towards the game. Will say if I add a password to it keep in mind that it would be "DV", so if one day you check the game page and it requires a password that would be the password but I do not think I would announce the game reopening. Like it would just be a thing I do randomly and would never say I did it. Sorry anon I know you aren't here for my rambling just I have a complex thing with that game.

I'm super sorry I never got around answering your ask, I am a year late replying I hope that's okay. To answer your question I'm still developing Verloren, just been very slow at working on it. I've been focus on all the backend mechanics which is a lot of eventing. There's not really anything graphically interesting to show which is why there's been a lack of updates OTL.

I've also been reworking the story which means the 2020 demo no longer reflects the current game. Hopefully in the future I can put out a more accurate demo that reflects all the changes to the game. (also that demo would be longer) A little sneak peak at one of the things I've worked on is this save menu that I've evented. It's one of the things in the game I'm very proud of, feel like I've improved a lot with eventing in rpg maker. Do know everything here is placeholder art ^^;

Just thought before I go back being pretty inactivate that I answer messages that I've missed. I'll try to open this account to check for any random asks to not have to answer them years later like this. When I finally do come back I'll be sure to give a nice big update of all the new things in the game.

I'm just sharing it again because new day (plus it was very late when I first shared this), I kept my original point short but I'll just make it more clear. As someone who has had personal experience knowing Vinca in the past she has always had this victim complex so this isn't a new thing. Just I kept that info of my bad experiences with her out the public eye, giving her respect she clearly doesn't show to others. I don't understand how someone can attack another person to the point of hoping they di3 and in the same breath promote herself as if she's the one being harass. It's just very telling this attack is all for attention and personal gain. This isn't a hate campaign or anything just Z is one of the sweetest and kindest people I have ever met, I know this is just my game blog and I've been dead on it (will return one day with game updates) but I'll use it to spread the voices of my friends who have been wrongly hurt. The doc is respectful and kind and shows Z's experiences during this whole mess, not once has Z attack her but All I ask if that you give Z and those harm kindness and support. All I ask is that there is no going out to hurt those who only want to bring pain to others. Just please show love and support that is all.

For the record, we love making games and want them to be approachable.

This whole debacle has had us discuss trigger warnings for the future because some people are only sensitive to certain sub-sets of issues, myself included.

On a store page and in fane, however, these warnings could be lengthy.

Would it be good, I wonder, to have the lists on the store page and at launch, as we have thus far, and then each respectively direct you to where you could read more about each trigger type?

For example, a longer warning might be:

Transphobia:

Depiction of violence against a transwoman; scene includes aftermath of physical altercation

"T Slur" appears twice if player interacts with [PC in Chiyo's room]

Online abuse against a transgender individual (Sexual harassment and dehumanizing language)

In-game, I think it should be fairly easy to do a trigger warning directory with breakdowns and possibly examples of each?

It's time consuming, but if it's something that would make people feel more comfortable playing horror games, I am always looking to explore new options.

I don't think doing this would have mattered in the recent abuse, but it does matter to us for making sure players are comfortable moving forward.

I mentioned these things in my itch.io response on Mare's page before comments were closed.

For what it's worth now, the "T slur" was used because people who tear us down really don't give two shits if I'm nonbinary, trans masc, or whatever. Being trans is enough for them to hate me.

Maybe it's regional, generational, or whatever, but it's been applied plenty to trans masc and nonbinary people around me as much as transfemmes because people who hate us don't really see a difference.

As far as trigger warnings in games though, I am always happy to discuss ways to improve on it further. Z and I are both neurodivergent, queer game devs and I am also disabled.

Making stuff accessible is very important to us, so I would genuinely like to have a conversation about what makes approaching dark subject matter feel safe.

However, given the recent targeted hate campaigns, I will Not be engaging with anyone who comes to this in bad faith.

You will be blocked immediately, and I encourage others to do the same rather than engage.

For Horror Games, would you like if the devs included a breakdown of how each trigger appears?

A game I, a nonbinary individual, and other trans individuals, co-authored the scene for and vetted.

This scene is five hours into a game, after multiple, ample content warnings and disclaimers about the subject matter, and a pivotal moment to show the pain that abuse can cause.

Notably: this bit of text is OPTIONAL.

The character in question remarks she does not want to look at her PC. Choosing to force her to do so forces her to look at the abuse she is dealing with.

It is not required to continue the game.

Last night, the blogger in question decided to send messages to all of my sister's social media.

This was a screenshot sent last night to my sister from their alt account @iso7010 :

They then had the absolute nerve to post that they had just suffered "transmisogony" and asked for donations on their account @flor4zul.

I am beyond disgusted, as one member of the trans community, to see someone not only acting like this, but having the nerve to turn around and ask for money after telling my baby sister to kill herself.

It shouldn't matter that @zmakesgames is also LGBT, but she is, and her games have always been inclusive.

Part of Mare's plot was inspired by what she had heard myself and her friends deal with and that was reflected in the character's struggles.

I explained this to them last night politely and they have instead tripled down, ignoring the facts.

And now, when a friend defended Z, they have accused her of sending people after them and used it to bed for money again.

Well, no.

I make games for a living. I make horror games for a living and each has and will deal with sensitive content and this stops now.

And if you wanna see the game that brought up the fuss? Well, for some reason, she wanted to get pissed about a four year old title:

Mare is an RPGMaker Horror game about trauma.

It is covered in trigger warnings and tells you each of them extensively. On the game page, when you start. And in the read me.

Horror games about trauma will depict trauma. Feels self explanatory, no?

Well, last night, someone went across my sister's social media pages, telling her to die, because she depicted transphobia in the game.

Some major spoilers, but they'll be brief.

At the climax of the game, the Pov shifts to show that the events of the game transpired due to a suicide attempt by a transwoman named Chiyo.

In this brief gameplay segment, you have the option to interact with her PC where you can see online hate she has received, one of which is "a tranny is still a tranny".

This segment was co-written by myself and fully vetted and approved unanimously by all of us, a team composing of multiple queer and trans individuals. We are all horror fans and the realistic depiction of our struggles and the abuse we face was cathartic, but as a result, we also made it clear to not interact with the game if you could not handle heavy subject matter.

This was, ironically, the tamest version of the scene I suggested but the best one, I believe.

I should note, this scene is five hours in. After multiple child deaths, suicides, abuse, etc.

But someone came to my sister, @zmakesgames and told her she should die for including a Trans main character and portraying that they deal with transphobia.

This is not okay.

If you don’t find this type of media cathartic, that's okay, but you don't have the right to police those of use who do, especially when it's coming from an ally inspired in part by listening to the struggles of her older sibling and friends and trying to help give them a voice.

If you can not handle triggering content in your media, do not engage with media that contains those triggers, but it is never, ever acceptable to stalk or tell a dev to kill themselves because you willingly engaged with media you knew would be harmful to yourself.

If you got through this, hi, @zmakesgames is the kindest person I know and all her games are a flavor of rainbow because she is also a lesbian. Please support your queer game devs this June and all year.

(forgot to put this over here...oops) But anyways hey it's been a while since I made any real post over here, this isn't a comfirm that I'll be back posting updates on a regular just thought I should slide in a bit of the things I've been doing. If you follow me on twitter you already saw all of this stuff, it's just the same thing but tumblr version ey So far I've just been trying to catch up in graphics since I'm still very behind. Like eventing stuff is away ahead of the graphics I have to make which means there's nothing graphic wise I can show aka no new areas or things to post. (which is one reason I've been fully dead.) Though most of my time has been towards redoing areas and other graphics since pixel art skills changed a bit and the maps in the demo are old (also a lot of dull shading...making stuff look dull) example of one of the reworks i've been doing (finally trees...)

Since I mention eventing, I've been going back to fix up old events just so the gap with events and graphics don't get way too big leading me to get very overwhelm with all the art I have to do. (because....it's a lot of art....) So I just been cleaning up events to make them easier to understand or just easier for future me. As well as I've been fixing how certain event systems work, for a example the dialogue! Left is the old version, while the right is how it looks now

Now when characters are talking, you will see two portraits if two characters are talking. Like this style a lot more since if Chris is like angry and it slides back to Vladimir, you can still see the angry Chris staring at him. (Idk think it's neat for showing a character has a expression still on their face than swapping back and forth with the art not letting a expression hold as another person is talking...also I just like how it looks.....) Besides the dialogue getting a makeover the menu screen has been getting special treatment as well. Originally I was going to event a menu though gave up since I was still very new at eventing menus and other stuff so I just sided with using the default menu screen rpg maker gave you but just slap scripts on it. But now I went back to my original plan since I know how to use events....well I think I do...but what I'm saying is that now I feel confident that I can event the menu I wanted to event in the beginning. You can see the wip menu over here weeeeeeee

It's a huge prototype still so all art and stuff is very rough, mostly since I'm just making sure it works. (making polish art and slapping it to a thing which isn't done....isn't smart...just a waste of graphics and time if you scrap the idea when you start coding it in and learn it doesn't work) So far all the submenus work as they should I just need to fix the inventory which is a hot mess which is why I didn't show it....because it's very broken. Maybe when I sand out all the problems I'll show it off. (Oh also I was testing something out hints the kazoo kid muffin sprite.)

But that's been most of the stuff i've been working on, not all...since there are a few more stuff I've been fixing event wise but that's just making stuff neater or a mini feature which I don't want to show off yet... hopefully the next time I update won't be like a year later....

I’m from the USA  And the game I’m developing is Verloren which is being created in RPG Maker VX Ace, I originally called it a horror game but the more I work on it the more I kinda want to remove that label off of it....because it’s not really spooky game.

All I really did was just post updates on the game I was working on, didn't really have a plan. Well since originally this blog was just a place I reshared stuff I thought was neat but when 2016 rolled around that's when I was very interested in making games so the blog just changed to a game dev blog. ;v;b hope this makes sense.

Chris Winter, find himself alone and lost in a black void filled with nothing but coldness. The only warmth you feel comes from your breath. In this void the young boy sees a door filled with light, trying to reach the door only leads to the boy to fall deep into a world filled with nothing but nonsense.
