elvmaiden:
Catania held her friend’s hand tightly, watching Amberle speak, wondering when her princess had turned into such a fierce warrior. Yes, Amberle had always been strong but lately she was carrying such a burden on her shoulders, changing so much… “We will survive this together, if all else shall fail I am sure of at least that simple fact.” Her words were true, though Catania had not been aware of such conviction within her. “You make me realise that every time you speak, Amberle.” The young elleth finally managed to smile weakly. “It is so easy for you to cheer me up, so easy to chase away those dark thoughts… if anyone can save us it will be you, I know that deep in my bones.”
“Your confidence in me means a great deal,” Amberle told her, exhaling slowly. “I have little of my own, in the face of what is to come... But knowing that you believe I can do this helps. But - it is time we eat. I forget, sometimes, in all the madness around us, and I suspect you do as well, with how much you worry. Come with me to the kitchens; perhaps we can raid the stockroom for sweets like we did as children. I think it will lift both our spirits to be a little silly and childish right now.”
