I'm getting some people who are like 'why is emesis blue in this list' (not in a bad way, mostly people just confused that a tf2 fanfilm is here or overjoyed at the representation).
The general theme of this list is movies that are weird, produced in atypical ways, have a unique style, or cannot be marketed to the mainstream (ie, the people who would go to the theater to watch michael jackson biopic or toy story 5 would be very upset).
For example, Who Killed Captain Alex is here because it's a really fun, completely unhinged film that was created with 85 dollars, condoms full of cow blood, and a dream.
Emesis Blue fits this criteria to me because it's an entire film created in Source Filmmaker. This program is infamously archaic and unwieldy to use. SFM is also almost exclusively used for short comedy sketches, not serious hour-long projects. Even more on top of that, it has much going on in the narrative that you're going to need to rewatch it at least 3 times to get the whole picture. There are several intersecting subplots and it is dense with intentional visual symbolism, especially in the way it uses color and shot composition.
Someone said 'why is a tf2 video in this list' (not mad at you whoever you are, i'm just using you to illustrate my take), and while Emesis Blue is, in fact, a tf2 youtube video, I think that's also really underselling it as a piece of art. It's a genuinely great film. And it’s available for free!
That said, if you've only seen Emesis Blue out of the films here (again, no hate, tf2 fans have been cooking cocaine for years), I really recommend you check out the other ones here. I tried to pick out ones that were very different from each other so people can explore. Have fun!!!!!
AND. Most importantly. Stop watching biopics. Just watch a documentary or read a book instead if you want to learn about a real person. Less chance of historical revisionism and the real story is usually more interesting anyways. THANK YOU!
tldr; emesis blue good
