Can’t believe I did my first Hellcheer fic rec back in 2022 when it was still “eddissy” thank God we’re officially hellcheer now, because eddissy was so ugly, ugh. Anyway, I’m still here, stronger than ever, doing what I love the most (rambling about fanfic). I’m glad to report that the fandom is thriving as usual, despite being such a small ship, and we’re still blessed with so many talented authors!!
So, what have I liked recently? (bear in mind I took a hiatus, so there are still plenty of fics I’ve bookmarked but haven’t caught up with yet) .You’ll find some well known names (look, I’m a loyal reader, once I stick with an author I’ll follow them to the weirdest trope and beyond) and some new entries I’m so happy to have discovered.
Starting strong with @jewelledfoxes — for some reason, I don’t recall reading their works before 2025, which is absolutely crazy because they’re amazing!!! And they write exactly what I love the most!!! In particular, I’m obsessed with Hard & Fast, a roommate!AU that absolutely nails the “sources of mild irritation to lovers” trope. This is one of those one-shots that makes you wish it were a longfic because I can’t get enough of their dynamic. Also, hot. Very hot. I can’t not mention The Arrangement (bossy Chrissy!!! Femdom!!! YES!!!!!) and Stupid, Stupid, Stupid (hello?? the angst?!!!!) as the other two on the podium — but seriously, just read everything they’ve written. It’s so, so good. I’ll patiently wait for more ♡
My beloved @gingertumericlemon delivered the hottest, most gut-wrenching, heartbreaking summery fanfic with Red and White All Over. I’m such a sucker and so is chrissy apparently for a good you can fuck fingerbang me in a public toilet but NOT kiss me because oopsie-doopsie I’ve actually got a boyfriend ♡ Isn’t it lovely? Why do I giggle and kick my feet so much when Eddie Munson suffers more than Jesus? I guess we’ll never know! What we do know is that we can always count on Ginger for a 10/10 fic.
Speaking of my sadistic tendencies, @uwusillygirl (who — coincidentally!!! — also has an amazing series with sadist!Eddie) outdid herself with a wretched hooker!Eddie in In Your Extra Time and Your Kiss, a Pretty Woman!AU. I cannot explain how much I loved this fic, and mind you, I don’t even like Pretty Woman!!!! It’s hot and tender and fun, and there’s this perfect Eddie/Steve dynamic too. It’s never, ever cheesy, and this Chrissy is also one of my favorite AU!Chrissys (I’m sorry, Richard Gere, but she’s like a thousand miles superior). I might have shed a couple of tears reading the finale, but I won’t say it out loud.
Now since it's kinktober, the 2 fics that have made my kinky heart very happy: first, Hard Reset by a uhm, lovely anonymous ♡, is everything I didn't know I needed: bimbo!chrissy too dumb to cum!!! would someone help her??? thanks god there's this chatobot virus\ghost\idk around !!! this is not just really hot but also really fun and the 00s aesthetic is unmatched!! What's a fandom interaction that made you really happy?
Honestly, any kind of interaction makes my day so much but the one that always makes me feel over the moon is when someone says that my work made them inspired, gave them an idea, whether it is for writing or drawing, the fact my art can do that is kinda unbelievable for me.
For a long time, I was so scared of the idea of sharing my art online and there was a time I was certain I was never going to, so the fact that now there's so many people that care about my silly little ideas, to the point that inspire them to also do art is actually crazy to me.
Especially since I’m very shy and try not to stay on social medias too much so I don't always see and answer comments for a long time, but I will always be grateful for anyone that interacts with my work, whether is just a little heart emoji or to someone saying that they are going to eat my art lol (that never fails to makes me laugh). Just knowing that there's someone all there that cares and that I’m not just throwing my work into the void is enough for me.
What's your favorite character or aspect of Stranger Things to create for?
I was actually mostly a very casual watcher of Stranger Things. Well, I loved the show for the characters, but I was a little dissatisfied with some of the writing choices that they took (mostly seaon 3) so I wasn’t, like, jumping to watch the new season right away. But then the season came out and everyone was saying really good things about it, so I started to get curious but the main reason I decided to go for it, funny enough, was really for hellcheer after all lmao.
Previously, I was in the fandom of a ship that had a similar trope to hellcheer and I one day saw someone reblogging the forest scene on tumblr and It was actually insane how immediately hooked I was. I think hellcheer just kinda hits all my favorite tropes when it comes to couples so it's not all that surprising. Obviously, that didn’t last long, but I was already invested in the story and while Chrissy was gone, Eddie was there and I was already very attached to him so I continued to see the rest.
Before season 4, I would say that my favorite character was Max but after it's 100% Eddie and Chrissy. They're now my favorite characters through and through. And if you ask, I don't think I can choose which one I like more. Maybe at the start of season 4 I could say Eddie was my favorite (as someone who grow up as a nerd that was into some alternative scene that constantly got told the shit I like is bad and evil and I’m going to Hell, well yes, I was immediately attached) but simply because we got to know him more and our time with Chrissy was sadly so short, but nowadays, the hellcheer fandom did so much for Chrissy, we built and contributed, and expanded so much for her as a character, for both of them and their relationship really, that now I just love them both equally. And I hope to continue to be part of that.
What's your artistic process like? Any tools you favor?
I feel like my art process is all over the place, I don't tend to plan a lot. Sometimes my brain will just randomly come up with an idea that will never leave until I at least sketch two lines of it. Sometimes, I will be scrolling through some social media and see some cool photos and be like "hey, what if I draw [insert character/ship] like this?" or sometimes I will just sit down and try to draw something without any goal.
One thing I love to do: use references. I will spend so much time looking for references, I use them A LOT. They are really an artist's best friend, seriously. Since I love drawing in many styles, usually when I'm going for a more cartoonish style I don't feel the need to use much of it, but if I'm doing a more semi realistic or full realism I will use the hell out of some references!
There was a time I used to think I was failing as an artist by using references but I realize that without them I would not have the skills I have today, my art improved so much more after I started not caring about using them and there’s so many things that I now can draw without looking any photos because of them! Literally even the bestest and biggest artists all there use references so any one that says references are cheating are lying, Just save yourself the frustration.
I just love trying everything when It comes to art. New painting techniques, different art styles, new brushes. Oh my God, the amount of brushes that I download it's actually crazy. I just love challenging myself to try something new, even if it ends up being so hard, It is always so worth it in the end. Besides, if a drawing it's frustrating you too much, you can always walk away for a little while or a long time actually, trust me, I recommend anyone to do that. It helps so much!
My biggest struggle with my art process it’s definitely my procrastination. I have the attention span of a seven year old, so sometimes I will spend way too much time on a drawing that should’ve not taken all that time. And I'm incapable of focusing on one thing at a time, my brain is always coming up with new ideas nonstop which can be very fun sometimes but many times it’s just so tiring and all the bajillion WIPs in my folder do not appreciate it.
What was it like to work on the surprise kiss piece?

So, this one was actually a rarity for me, because as I said in the previous question, I use a lot of references but for this idea I decided to not use any of it. Since I was planning for a more cartoonish style for it I knew I wasn't going to struggle that much with anatomy and be too harsh on myself about whether it is realistic or not.
I also didn’t wanna... think too hard while doing this one, I tend to be very perfectionist when drawing so I tried to force myself to not look too hard at whether a line wasn’t that good, the coloring not perfect and instead just try to shut my brain off and have some fun. And I mostly managed to do that, I had lots of fun doing it.
I wanted to go for a very cute, very silly look for it, Like I wanted it to look like it tastes like candy or something like that if that even makes sense, lmao. Which is my favorite way to draw hellcheer, because honestly it's what they deserve, considering their sad unfair fate.
I had this idea for this drawing because one of my favorites things to draw is Chrissy kissing Eddie in the face and him looking all goofy and lovestruck while her lipstick is all over his face. I’vê drawn this so many times and I never got sick of it, but I was like “what if I did that but with Chrissy” and decided my girl Chrissy deserves to be one getting some smooch this time so that’s how the idea for this drawing came to life.
What was it like to work on create something beautiful out of this tragedy?

This one was a pretty challenging one. My hellcheer art is usually pretty wholesome, silly and overall lighthearted, so sometimes I have this urge to make a more sad art for them and I really wanted to do something that had to do with their fate in canon.
So one day, this idea just came to me. This image of Eddie and Chrissy, after their death, in the Upside Down. Their corpses wrapped in the vines, but together nonetheless. Their hands holding and reaching for another even in death. As bright flowers start to grow around and in their bodies, their bond so strong and special that it can create something beautiful and good even somewhere as dark as the Upside Down.
That's how I came up with the title: “We create something beautiful out of this tragedy”. Which is essentially how I feel about hellcheer. As much as I like to complain about their fate in canon, I also love me some tragic romance so I do like that aspect of their relationship. How sweet their relationship was despite how brief and how sad it is that it got cut so short. All the what it could've been, how much it influenced Edde’s character through the rest of the season, how it affected his decision at the end. The tragedy of it all is so good for me.
So when I came across a photo that had the pose exactly how I imagine in my head, I decided to finally do it. It was a pretty hard piece and since I apparently love to make me suffer, I went for a more realist look in my style of painting, which is always very challenging for me since I suck at rendering and I tried a new way of painting for the first time (greyscale) because i’m a goddamn idiot.
My favorite but also least favorite part was doing the flowers, because they are so hard to do but it's so worth it. Since I love me some symbolism, I spent a while browsing for flower meanings, I wanted the flowers to be related to Eddie and Chrissy's relationship so I really tried, though i’m not a professional or anything, and some places the symbolisms differ, but in case anyone is curious here’s my intention with these:
The purple Hyacinth in Eddie’s side: usually means sorrow, regret and forgiveness.
The blue Hydrangea in Chrissy: like the previous, regret, apologies but also of gratitude.
The pink Camellia all over them: admiration, affection, and appreciation or longing for someone.
The forget-me-not in the background: well, those are pretty self explanatory.
It was very hard, I almost thought of giving up many times but after taking a big break from it (always remember to take breaks, it helps.) I managed to finally finish and it was so worth it, and I'm very proud of it, it's definitely one of my favorites that I did.
