How to Have a Business Owner Championship Mindset
I lived in an era when Micheal Jordan and his Chicago Bulls were striving for success. The Bulls were fighting to become NBA World Champions. Michael Jordan suffered many defeats before he reached Basketball Royalty. As a kid Jordan’s high flying dunks, insane speed and beyond human basketball skills were a huge deal. However as an adult Jordan’s highlights aren’t so important. As an adult Jordan’s struggles has become a focal point as a fan. The other day, I was watching ESPN classics, the 1991 Chicago Bulls. What a great time for Chicago. As I’m watching, ESPN shows the clip when Jordan hugged the NBA trophy. Jordan held that trophy as I hold my ten month old daughter. The pain, the suffering, the tears and yes even blood that Jordan sacrificed to become a World Champion was evident at that moment. Jordan was defeated seven years before he tasted Championship Gold. In which three of those years Jordan failed to defeat the Detroit pistons. Finally in 1991 along with his team mates Jordan defeated the Detroit pistons in route to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers to become a World Champion.
Michael Jordan conveyed he didn’t have what was needed to defeat the Detroit pistons. Instead of complaining, Jordan turned weaknesses into his strengths. Jordan enhanced his on the court game, along with building his body via weight training. In other words Jordan Worked his tail off to improve himself. This similar mindset is no different with everyday business owners.

Meeting new people I enjoy. Hearing another person’s story is gratifying. When one convey he/she has an interested in starting a business I find that exciting. It is exciting because I’ve met another person that is craving to become a Champion in business. I ask, “Tell me more regarding your dreams.” I’ve been told, “I want to own a bar, a salon, an auto repair shop, a bakery, a bank,a club, a daycare etc.” I ask, ” Have you began chasing your dream?” The common response I hear is “I started then I quit.” The task became Hard so I Gave up.
“Failure isn’t the challenges one endures in business, failure is quitting.”
Anyone who is successful in business has thought about quitting. The defining factor is quitting was never an option. Quitting became an after thought. When one opts to quit, that mean one has quit on himself and family. As an Insurance Professional have a thought about quitting? Of course I have. I believe the insurance industry is harder than college. However I saw the bigger picture. I knew if I stayed with it, my family would prosper more than I realize. Thank God I didn’t quit this business.
In order to become a Champion, One has to think and act as a Champion. Ladies and Gentlemen Championship status is a mindset. All Champions become Champions in his/her own mind. One will ask how Do I become a Champion in the mind? Lets review a few facts that enabled my growth toward Championship Status.

1. Becoming a student of your craft. – Remaining a student simply means give in, commit to learning your industry. Become your industry. Study all successful men and women of your industry. What did he/she do to become successful? Understand what lessons yourself can learn to become a champion of your industry. What facts, lessons, knowledge can you obtain to grow within your industry.
2. Eliminating all Things and People. – “Life is Custom build with distractions and negative people.” Often times life can catch us. Catch us in situations that will detour our mindset from business. People that convey you’re wasting your time. Individuals with no ambition themselves will distract you. Partying, having an extra social life. When starting a business and even running your business it is beyond imperative that your social life becomes a social life of business. Surrounding yourself with like minded individuals should be the focal point. Getting rid of negative minded people is essential. Can’t think success when others degrade success. Remember the next time you’re in a club the next business owner is at home getting better and stronger.
3. Compete with yourself instead of the competition. – My favorite business mentor is Vince McMahon. The owner of World Wrestling Entertainment formerly World Wrestling Federation. Vince conveyed “Instead of competing with your competition, compete with yourself.” Learn your competition of course. However find ways to enhance your own business. Create innovative ways to stand out amongst your competition.

4. “Under no circumstance Never Give Up” – At times we may take a break, we may have to reinvent ourselves. We may find another vehicle to achieve the desired goal. Never Give Up on your goal or dream.
Working within the insurance world has taught me so many principals. Regardless of the business these four principals can apply to any business. Just remember you deserve to be a Champion. It is equally important to do what it takes to become a Champion.
A little Hard work and Dedication will hurt No One. When chasing a dream you love, hard work isn’t a thought. Its simply an action.
Go Win!
Success and Blessings
