Opening lines

I saw borsch for sale in Russia for less than a kiwi dollar; I'm not a big beetroot fan but the generous dollop of sour cream is its redeeming feature (as is the case with most Russian food). I wonder how much celebratory borsch would be consumed in Russia and Russian communities around the world if Putin was turning up daisies.
The Pacman story
Dogday Sunday
If you're from Manawatu, you may (or probably do not) know today was Dogday Sunday; that's the name of of a social group for dog-owners which I wrote about for the Manawatu Standard.
The idea behind the group is to give dogs the opportunity to roam around Palmerston North's pet-friendly parks and reserves with their owners. About 20 people + 20 dogs turned up to meetings every 5 weeks.
I contacted the organiser about running a story, which he thought was a great idea. I can't believe he hadn't pitched it to the newspaper earlier for the free advertising in it. According to Dogday Sunday's Facebook page, turnout doubled in the meeting after the newspaper went to press, and at today's subsequent meeting it doubled again! In other words, there were about 80 dogs running wild in a field somewhere in Palmerston North, which I am absolutely not responsible for at all.
