"Father, I thank you deeply for everything you have taught me, and grateful for the days further where I'll be able to learn from you still. And I'm so happy you get to join Mother and I in the fighting of champions! The affection between Mother and yourself is so strong, that they refused to allow you enter separately..! I could never be more honored to have such outstanding parents with such a deep and impressive love."
“I— You’re very welcome, Lucina— You make me proud—”
Lucina was, quite literally, spewing words of praise to Chrom, giving the poor sod no chance to really comment back. The way her eyes were twinkling with her small smile was just adorable and he couldn’t be more proud than to call this lone woman in front of him, regardless if she was from the future or not, his daughter. In fact, he was feeling slightly…. embarrassed… from how easily such gush came from her lips.
However, all of that didn’t matter when she brought up the ultimate Sore Spot of Chrom’s pitiful ego, the One Lone Factor that kept him up at night whenever his wife left to battle in Smash and never summoned him……… the fact that he did not have his own striking presence. Lucina was, of course, quite oblivious to the sudden exaggerated crestfallen expression that clouded Chrom’s eyes as she continued to compliment his strong love for her mother and vice versa (not that she was wrong, mind you, Chrom loves and adores his wife with all his heart and soul, and he especially isn’t shy to gush about how adorable and loving his wife is to a reluctant Frederick), but that wasn’t the point in this dilemma.
Ohhhh no.
This was that him, Chrom, a Lord, bearer of the crown, doesn’t have an official role in Smash Bros. Hell, he was the MAIN CHARACTER of the game!! How could he not be playable?! He wanted his chance to shine out in the field just like his beautiful wife and charming daughter!!! He bit his lower lip to quell any childish rebuttals or whining, instead opting to keep his cool aura, his ’I am a King, I better act like one’ impression, but it was gradually failing.
While yes, he did love his daughter and his wife even more so, to be refused a spot on the roster because he’s too…. loving?!?! The greatest women in his life both have a place yet here he is stuck as a Final Smash???
Although, truth be told, he is glad for the opportunity to help his wife whenever she summons him on the field, but…. still…!
Well, at least he still smashes his wife, but he was quite certain both Lucina and Robin would look at that joke with distaste. He could feel the disapproving glare Robin was directing his way now.
“I… do love your mother very much, of course. To help her in her…” He paused, sorrow weeping through his pores, his own chance to appear in the game gone as he’d be another ’redundant swordsman’, “… final smash… is an honor.” Contrary to how childishly he was acting right now, he did very much enjoy the opportunity to assist Robin in the field. That, and it was also true that he couldn’t bare to go against her out on the field if such a thing happened. He loves her far too much to even entertain the thought. Perhaps it was for the best, after all?
His man pride still stung, though. Typical men.
