i wish there was a way to say "you're right, but this is really ineffective and even counterproductive messaging to anyone who doesn't already agree with you" without sounding like an asshole
Everyone stand back I'm about to kick a hornets' nest
A fun thing about the kind of person who sees a post about how it's actually really fucked up that the default way for imperial core internet artists to produce merch is "outsource to services that pay pennies to workers somewhere in southeast asia to produce cheap trinkets with your designs on them" and decides to leave this kind of comment
Is that if you go to their blog it'll usually be full of posts talking about how generative AI users are irredeemably evil for using a service that exploits the intellectual work of widdle indie artists and pollutes the environment. Very fun kind of cognitive dissonance.
Using the evil slop machine to produce any kind of picture is a deeply morally reprehensible and exploitative act. Using the system of global imperialism to get acrylic charms with your drawings encased inside them made in a sweatshop somewhere in indonesia without having to pay anything close to a living wage for the people making them is the god-given right of any Artist and Creator™, and don't you dare criticize them for it, why are you pressuring small, independent creators?
it's Tuesday all day today and there's no known way to prevent this

The moral argument for allowing transition is trivially simple: Bodily autonomy is one of the most important human rights. No ifs, no buts.
On the social side, preventing transition is an enormous overreach with regard to freedom of expression. Legal gender change is a necessity to protect privacy.
This is all downstream of the simple idea that you should treat trans people like a type of people, an idea that a lot of people get really offended by, as they do with women, racialized people, disabled people, gay people, pretty much any marginalized group in history.
Because the moral argument is trivially against them, bigots will try to frame themselves as a rational, scientifically-minded group trying to rein in the naive optimism of their opponents. They will insist that the science is on their side, and by doing so handwave the moral argument because their point of view is "true".
It is not.
The playbook of these groups is old, reliant on a few rhetorical tricks that play on confirmation bias, and generally tries to do one thing: Engineer talking points that are wrong in ways that take scientific competence to debunk, so that a fully accurate debunking loses general audiences.
That's why it's important to get ahead of them and attack the foundations they're building their rhetoric on.
It's tempting to just fall back on the moral argument, it really is, because these shitheels are arguing positions that are pretty fucking heinous. That should be enough. Unfortunately, it gets you liberal "allies" who seem genuinely embarrassed to be on your side, because they're not confident that their position is empirically correct in addition to being morally correct.
That's why stuff like debunking "concerning" scientific results about trans youth in Finland matters.
Don't cede rhetorical space that belongs to you.
dislike how many mental health posts on here are just "you've never done anything wrong in your life ever and they were evil for that"
maybe you did do something wrong. maybe you hurt someone. maybe you have said awful things. maybe you were just as bad as them. maybe. but what matters is that you move on. you have to try. you have to wake up and be kinder. you have to learn and listen and grow. maybe you did do something wrong but that doesn't mean you have to keep doing that. as long as you are alive, you can change
People love natives in such a superficial way. People wanna stand with natives when we’re talking about the trees, and the land. People wanna stand with natives when we talk about philosophies of love and togetherness. But as soon as it’s time to talk about political side of being native. About dismantling a system built on the genocide of our people. About how we need a new system that isn’t built upon capital gain and benefitting white bodies. About putting up a fight. About how the colonial state we reside in is a disgusting imperial plague on this land. Suddenly y’all don’t wanna talk native.
"They spent hundreds of years trying to assimilate my ancestors, trying to create indians like me, who could blend in, but now they don’t want me either. They can’t make up their minds.
They want buckskin and face paint, drumming, songs in languages they can’t understand recorded for them but with English subtitles, of course. They want educated, well spoken, but not too smart. Christian, well behaved, never question. They want to learn the history of the people, but not the ones that are here now, waving signs in their faces, asking them for clean drinking water, asking them why their women are going missing, asking them why their land is being ruined.
They want fantastical stories of Indians that used to roam this land. They want my culture behind glass in a museum.
But they don’t want me." -Shelby Lisk
the shit you do to make a dying phone work when you dont wanna buy a new phone is amazing. my phone no longer charges unless i plug and unplug the charger exactly ten times & then flip the charger around then it works. I dont want to say i have to fuck the port a little bit first but i have to fuck the port a little bit first
This post is horrible because my phone also has to be unplugged and plugged back in over and over and I think about this post every single time. Dodged Sherlock Holmes only to be infected by this guy instead.
it doesn’t have to be good it just has to be done
The phrase "They don't want it perfect, they want it Friday" does wonders for my productivity.
I tell this story all the time but I'll tell it again! When I taught kindergarten full time, we had a working bee one weekend where we did a bunch of gardening/landscaping in the outdoor area. One of the dads put up a bit of fencing, then stood back and had a look, kind of frowning like he wasn't sure. His wife then came along, and the following conversation ensued:
Wife: GETMO? Husband: (after a moment, with a sigh) Yeah, GETMO. Me: GETMO? Wife and husband, in perfect unison: Good Enough To Move On
Absolutely LIFE CHANGING acronym, friends and enemies.
hey um. so sorry to tell you this, but op of that post plays toys kinda weird. yeah you should just block them, that's not how normal people play with toys
this is what shipping discourse sounds like to me
Dont go to THAT pretend tea party - that girl serves weird air.
I’m not gonna platform this idiot but I saw somebody reblog a post from a radfem I think by accident. But the post claimed that men who hire prostitutes are “rapists who buy their victims silence”
I don’t think I need to explain to y’all why this is wrong but in case I do, buying a service from someone and following their rules as a client is not a breech of consent.
A lot of the danger that comes from being a prostitute has to do with its illegality. If a client breaks the rules and the service provider can’t file a complaint without risking imprisonment of themselves and/or their client, that’s not a safe work environment.
The idea that nobody would willingly sell sexual services unless they’re desperate is just false. There’s also a lot of other jobs people do when they’re desperate and they don’t like doing. For me it was working retail.
The difference between me pretending to be happy for clientele while working retail and someone pretending to be happy while selling sexual services to clients is that while I was working retail I at least theoretically had sick leave, health insurance, and a way to file a complaint if a customer assaulted me.
Sex work isn’t inherently any more degrading or miserable than any other kind of work. The issue is the lack of protection and workers rights.
One thing not enough model kit enthusiasts talk about is how often you can save money by shopping for your hobby tools...in the makeup department.
Sponge painting? Makeup sponges are durable and have fine pores for smooth paint finishes. Need a plastic file? Glass nail files are half the price of gunprimer. Want to remove nub marks? Nail buffing/polishing blocks are less than a buck and you can cut them to size. Detail painting? You can get a 100 pack of eyeliner brushes or ultra fine nail art brushes for less than $10. I've had $2 makeup tweezers last me longer than the DSPIAE specialty ones. Paper nail files are even cheaper than sandpaper sheets. A cheap makeup brush set is perfect for weathering and dry brushing.
And if you just happen to find some nail polish that piques your interest while you're there, even better.
If you want to rope in the tabletop roleplaying crowd as well, it's worth noting that most commercially available dice bags are literally just jewellery pouches that've been relabelled and marked up by a couple hundred percent. You'll have a much wider selection of colours and styles than your local game shop's standard black, blue and brown, too; don't you want your dice to feel pretty?
My big hot take that I feel more intensely than I thought I would prior to realizing it is that White Chain from Kill Six Billion Demons is the single greatest trans character ever written and illustrated and she deserves to be the most important quite frankly. She deserves to have an infinitely greater cultural impact in wider trans media and I’m wounded that she doesn’t. She’s a black trans woman born as a genderless angel and her self actualization moment is literally the most profoundly moving and devastatingly beautiful sequence of panels I’ve ever seen in my life, bar none. It is so important to me. It is power and beauty and so raw in a way that nothing else I’ve ever read has ever been. In a story that works in subtext the whole way leading up, it is a moment of turning to the audience with absolute unbridled bluntness in its message that masterfully takes all breath away without ever feeling the curse of the heavy handedness that plagues other “I am a trans woman” moments in other trans media. It is a perfect encapsulation of someone struggling, agonizing, desiring to find some sign that they should uphold and conform while their very soul undergoes transformation, becoming beautiful and divine in a way that cannot be fathomed by any who try to pressure her to stop. Her body is a symbol of shackles in a way that isn’t just agony or ugly loathing; it is stone, heavy and burdensome and hard, but it is when she breaks that stone and becomes flesh and blood that she RADIATES power like no other media I have EVER seen depict a trans woman.
There is NO ONE in trans media like White Chain and it’s a god damn CRIME I don’t see her celebrated as a cornerstone of the beauty we can embody when stories are written about us with true love and care and reverence.
Please please please, if you are a woman of any kind, but ESPECIALLY a trans woman, I consider kill six billion demons absolutely integral reading material, there is simply nothing else I’ve ever seen come close yet in my short life that does women’s beauty of all kinds the same kind of justice.
what they DONT tell you about clarinets is that you have to fucking build the damn thing every single time. "what instrument do you play" fucking legos man idk
I’m obsessed with my 19 year old coworker. I was telling him about how my crashout divorced dad got a sugar mommy by going to random churches and having screaming sobbing breakdowns in the pews until a random rich christian widow was like ‘I can fix him’. And he went ‘yo thats tech. The meta is changing.’
