the bell keeper asks why we’ve come here. why does anyone come here? they guessed we came for the money. that’s mostly correct. we’re meant to be here for the money. that’s why i’m here. but i feel like some of the others have ulterior motives, though no one has said anything. really, it’s not so much that they have ulterior motives as it is they have different feelings about the deep. i learned to be wary long ago of this place and what it can do to you. i don’t think that feeling is shared by everyone in our group. they’ll learn to regret that soon enough. i can only hope everything goes well. i speak my hopes here: that the deep won’t keep any of us.
