“ wait !! — yul , i can’t marry you. ” she speaks up just in time , lips quivering with the nerves building up and then she hears the grandma beside them audibly gasp and maybe she heard her grumble at jamie , something about how she was letting go of such a handsome man..
“ yul i– i’m so sorry but.. i care for you , so much! .. and shia?? god , i’m just honored to be a part of her life and watch her grow and i love her so so sooo much but… this isn’t the— i don’t think this would be the right step for us. i love having you be a part of my life and you mean so much to me but i just.. i never really.. saw you in that… way. and , you know hyerin and i.. i just… i’m so sorry , yul-ah. ” tone ranged for nervous high pitches to scared low ones as jamie’s eyes wavered from his. “ if you want me to stay away for a bit , i understand. ”
yul is taken aback as jamie suddenly cuts him off.
for one, he thought she would’ve let him finish but maybe she was just that excited to say-
he can’t help when his jaw slowly drops while he listens as jamie begins explaining why she can’t… marry him.
did…. had he been completely wrong in everything? what-
yul takes a second to backtrack through everything he had done wrong. had he been acting so differently around jamie to make her feel like how she was saying? what had been the trigger that made her think- feel- at what point did yul make jamie think that… he was going to ask her hand in marriage?
and then he realizes how the fancy restaurant and asking her to meet him alone so specifically when they saw each other almost everyday caused the misunderstanding it did. on top of the commentary that the grandmother beside him started making about how ‘this is much more interesting than the drama’…
as soon as hyerin’s name slips from jamie’s lips, yul can’t help the smile that makes it way onto his own.
once jamie finishes telling yul how wrong this is… yul bursts into loud laughter, rocking forward as he holds onto his stomach. he takes a moment to try and steady himself but as soon as he gets a glance at jamie’s serious expression he doubles over for another round, face hurting from just how hilariously unexpected the entire situation had turned out.
when he’s finally able to pull himself back together, yul exhales deeply before turning to jamie with a beaming smile.
“jamie-“ he cracks a grin, threatening to turn into another fit of laughter. “jamie, i was going to ask if you would do the honor of officially being shia’s godmother.”
he lets her take a moment to let his words sink in before he continues, watching her reaction closely.
“yes, i love you too - as a friend. and of course i know about you and hyerin!” he can’t help the chuckle that escapes as he thinks about how hyerin would’ve reacted if she had been there to witness the speech yul gave to jamie. considering how the two were, she probably would’ve thought he proposing as well before putting him in a chokehold. “did you really think that i would try to get in between you and hyerin?”
he shakes his head in amusement at the image of hyerin skinning him alive with her eyes. “hyerin would have my head on a stick if she thought i tried to make a move on you.”
leaning back against the hospital bed, yul stabilizes his breathing again before asking jamie again.
“so what do you say? would you be willing to be shia’s godmother?”
