Hello I’m @chthonic-eclectic-riorson , alternatively known as Riorson or Sova, and this is my blog!!

Facts about Riorson the witch

I’m an officially practicing witch and pagan of 5 years. While I consider myself an eclectic witch I find my specialties are in celestial magic, glamour, cartomancy, pop culture magic, and protective magic. I’d consider myself dual faith or christopagan. My entity work and pagan practices mainly revolve around chthonic and martial deities such as my patrons King Haides and Nemesis. Mainly involved with the Hellenic pantheon but also work decently with the Slavic pantheon, angels, and spirits.

Somethings I’ve been interested in learning and exploring in my craft is south slavic folk magic, writing magic, and persona magic.

The intended purpose of my blog is to talk all things witchcraft and paganism that falls into the range of my understanding. Somethings might be more personal or devotional, somethings might be general commentary, somethings might be more educational, etc. Ultimately, I just want to share my craft experiences/perspectives .

My name is Riorson or Sova. My pronouns are they/he/she and all you really need to know is I identify as queer. I’m a psychology major with a deep love and passion for it as well as sociology, criminology, law, philosophy, history, and neuroscience.

In my spare time I enjoy writing, playing video games, playing DND, and martial arts. I can speak 3 languages, and have been practicing martial arts for over a decade.

I’m a big fan of crows and most corvids, but I just love animals in general to a point I considered studying zoology. I enjoy beach combing, tide pooling, and whale watching.

If issues arise I don’t have any qualms in reporting or blocking people amongst other things. So, don’t be a creep, oddly parasocial or a bigot.

People be calling my faith to complex because I recognize multiple divinities, aspects, and perspectives and embrace them. Even though some of the religious perspective I have do conflict at times (christianity, paganism, and astrolatry).

Meanwhile they only believe in one true deity yet have multitude of discrepancies and conflicts within their teachings and instead of challenging it or thinking about it or accepting it, they just get pissed at you for questioning in the first place and go back to their “simplicity”.

We are not the same.

Domination spell this. Love binding that. Attracting ideal partner smth. Frankly what I think some of you guys need isn’t manifesting love interests but rather warding and adding protections in the system of your love or glamour workings.

Make a “May this love never find me” ward, or like do a spell to help you see people for who they really are, and maybe a self-love spell to accompany that if you feel like you’re hesitating to cut somebody off who is no good for you.

Spells affect everything that may fall into their path, if there isn’t a barrier or clarity to ensure the efficiency of the spell that’s where you can have spells working in unanticipated ways or even perceived backfires.

Reminder in the word “Witchcraft” there is craft. There are many different kinds of crafts (woodcarving, metal work, pottery, painting, scrapbooking, etc). Just like how there are many types of crafts there are many types of witchcrafts (glamour, weather magic, death work, spirit work, etc). There are many ways to use tools in crafts like different gluing techniques people use that ultimately are different but bring the same result. Just how many different techniques of using tools are all valid (different ways of shuffling a deck, different ways of reading flames or incense in spell work, etc)

I see a lot of new beginner witches stressing about the minor details or asking questions “my candle flame did ___ what does that mean?” or “I don’t have this [herb] can I use [different herb] instead?”. Which truth be told I don’t know.

It’s a craft built and influenced by your own energy. I don’t know the intricacies of your spell work and the energy you’re bringing in for it to tell you that. I don’t know if that candle flame is good or bad because I'm not in the room with that candle's energy, I don’t know what that candle' s for and I don’t have your energy that it’s interacting with.

The reason craft is in the word witchcraft is that it’s a craft. You make stuff you like, make stuff you don’t like, get times where you need a break or go through blocks, make small mistakes that work out, make small mistakes that don’t, try new things and build your own methods, etc.

You can only build your own methods comfortably by doing your own crafting. Art classes or guide books can help build a better understanding of techniques but ultimately no one is making a carbon copy of each other because they know the same techniques, have the same tools, and the same prompt.

Long story short the key to excelling within your witchcraft practice isn’t asking the witch with decades of experience under their belt what is and isn’t okay and feeling entitled for an answer, the real key is fucking around and finding out and learning the hard way.

It’s impossible to be in control of everything and it’s hubris to think you know better than forces primordial in nature. You can use your internal and external resources to help you in the world but it’ll never be a match for the forces that keep the world going. So, give in and allow yourself to be carried by the current and cared for by the waters.”

Now im not saying a big reason why most glamour and binding spells popularized on witchcraft spaces are about making men obsess over or fall in love with you are a result of people still allowing patriarchy to influence their crafts through male-centric thinking but I’m also not not saying that.

Reasons why you should be using invasive plants in your spell-work

Helps improve the overall health of your local ecosystems and native wildlife.

Allows you to build a better relationship with the spirits of your area.

There is no such thing as overharvesting, so if you worry you’re the type when foraging for ingredients to go heavy handed; go to your invasives.

Inherently these plants when used in spell work will be fast-working, highly adaptive, and dominating.

You likely already have an invasive in your area that has the intentions you want to use in your next spell.

Allows you to not rely on massive monoculture farms that over-farm and hurt the environment.

Gives you the excuse to go outside and get moving which has been proven to have positive impacts on mental health.

Invasives aren’t hard to find. You can find them at the park, school campuses, any patch of grass along the road, etc.

The baneful possibilities are endless, like you can get so creative.

Depending on what exactly is your invasive and where you’re foraging from it’s free food.

Some Important Reminders

Research what are your natives and your invasives and learn to identify them, especially if they are similar to natives or have dangerous look-a-likes.

Read up on your area’s by-laws to ensure you are foraging invasives in a legal and safe way.

When harvesting invasives harvest carefully and be aware of how this specific invasive spreads, so when harvesting you’re not possibly helping it spread.

Don’t compost invasives.

Some invasives are poisonous or toxic, so research and be careful when handling. Please don’t consume or use in any workings that would require burning them or skin contact.

If looking for edible invasives or invasives you plan on using in salves or bath rituals, don’t harvest from polluted areas and ensure it is not toxic.

Celestial Witch Reminder

You are the magic

Whenever there is a transit happening it’s okay to miss out on the spell work, because regardless as long as you have a birth chart you’re already naturally working with that transit on a mundane level.

Celestial or Cosmic Witchcraft is using transits as energetic opportunities for your spell work and magically enforcing or progressing goals. However, at the end of the day whether you harness it for spells or not, you yourself are a walking spell, your energy is still interacting with the cosmos whether you’re at the altar or not. You’re not truly missing out because anything that was going to happen was going to happen anyways.

So, it’s okay to rest, it’s okay to let the energy of the universe guide you instead of trying to guide it, it’s okay to embrace the cosmos in your day-to-day life

For the record when it comes to spell work if you don’t want something specific to manifest in your spell work, it’s not going to manifest in your spell work.

If you’re putting energy into a spell and you suddenly get an intrusive thought on the worst possible way of it going wrong, guess what. Your energy isn’t going to manifest it because you’re actively displaying an aversion to that possibility.

Also your energy is a part of you therefore knows you and is not going to go out of the way to harm you. It serves you because it is you.

And like more than 9 times out of 10 if you let your energy work with your intuition (which is also a part of you) your spell work will be fine if not stronger. So, have some faith in yourself and faith in your energy because at the very least it’s not going to willingly steer you wrong.

Hey everybody! I know it’s been a minute:

I just want to remind everyone (esp w summer approaching in the northern hemisphere) that when you are looking for shells on a beach that you are doing so ethically.

Many beaches currently have a shelling ban, meaning if you find one, leave it there. This is because shells greatly impact the coastline ecosystem, offering homes and latching points to many organisms, offering minerals as they break down, and creating sand in the middle of a global sand shortage.

Additionally many countries have bans on taking shells in luggage, even by car. It’s important that you ‘know before you go’ on vacation. You can look up a specific beaches laws prior to your visit, and when in doubt leave shells where they are.

For my witches: I know many posts suggest taking shells home as offerings, esp older sources, however due to the nature of the situation it’s best they are left where they are. Rather than taking them, bless them, skip them closer to the waves as offerings, make fun sigils around them in the sand before they are washed away, honor the species they came from as a muse, charge shells in sunlight or moonlight before placing them back. Ideas are infinite, so depending on what you need them for there are beach equivalents that are ocean friendly!

Finally: please don’t introduce foreign materials into the water systems, buying commercial shells just to put back, adding random crystals to beaches, buying shells from beach shops (unethical to begin with) and trying to put them back. Many of these objects either are not native to the area, or have been treated for craft purposes, or like in the cases of beach stores have been brought from international sources. These shells are no longer beach safe, and risk introducing things into the water ways that don’t belong.

We can respect these beauties from a distance, our water ways need us 🙌
