Dinner 5 Dec 2017. Spinach and mac and cheese round up. Saved points all day and can splurge on Cac and Cheese.
Lunch 5 Dec 2017. WW again, shrimp is free....yeah!
B’fast 5 Dec 2017. The new Weight Watchers plan has all fish at zero points. I get inspired and break out the lox, laughing cow cheese wedge (i pt. and Wasa crackers (i pt.) Trip to the Lox Factory coming up
Very late lunch 4 Dec 2017. Reheating the mac and cheese.
late b’fast 4 Dec 2017. Before getting to the pool for a swim, I stop at Burrito Boy. Never tried this, but they have a Spinach Burrito on the Breakfast Burrito menu. It’s great, my new fave. No potatoes, lots of egg and spinach, some onion and salsa in a whole wheat tortilla. really perfect!
Selfie in the waiting room. 4 Dec 2017. Wearing my Chuck-A-Rama Buffet baseball cap, and waiting at the Wound Clinic. Last night while watching TV (actually the Michelle Wolff standup special, for the second time) it crossed my nind that almost all “successful” people on TV (and in life?) have a big natural smile that shows off their upper front teeth very clearly as well as the lower front teeth. My mouth does’t have that shape and never has.
When we moved to an upper middle class aspirant suburb when I was in 8th grade, I became aware of some of my peers getting orthodonic work done, explicitly to “look better” not becasue of any dental malformation. Our family dentist asked my mom about this--I guess something could have been done to make everything perfectly routine, but it was not necessary. My folks said no, it wasn’t worth it. I never thought about it or cared about it.
But there are no pictures of me at any time in my life with a big toothy smile. It’s impossible. If I open wide, you can see my lower front teeth, which are and always have been kind of yellowish--certainly influenced by decades of drinking lots of strong coffee. But since people don’t see my teeth, or much of my teeth, I never thought that doing any kind of teeth whitening was a big thing.
I learned that Dentistry has actually been so successful as a science and profession, that they had to find new ways to have dentists make money, and the teeth whitening thing was a big part of that.
Should I regret my lack of a big toothy smile? I think my parents would have said, if I asked, that it just wasn’t in the cards for me and I had to live my life as it was.
Dinner 2 Dec 2017. Cabin fever. Too much rain. Julia insists we go out. It’s the new, reopened Wendy’s. Julia gets soemthing called th epwoer sald or whatever: Chicken breast on “Asian” bowl of stuff. I get the Chili (alays good and great value), small salad, and a Dave’s Double. The burger pretty ok, but not as good as 5 Guys. Thee’s a bunch of teens chowing down. Reminds us sof our own high school days.
Take a break 2 Dec 2017. Hot tea.
B’fast 2 Dec 2017, Frid egs over, refried potato, canandian bacon, Juli’as wheat brad toasted.
Dinner 1 Dec 2017. Cold leftover slamon, salad greens with ranch yogurt dressing, baked potato.
Last chance before the freeze. 1 Dec 2017. Valiant mini rose, and earnest red cap mushroom. Winer is coming, soon.
Lunch 1 Dec 2017 the lsat of Julia’s cabbage soup.. Really good. I didn’t get enough of it before.
B’fast 1 Dec 2017. I make French scrambled eggs for Christine and myself. She like’s ‘em. Julia’s bread toasted, Canadian bacon.
Dinner 30 Nov 2017. Christine’s in town for a rehearsal with the country band. Jim comes over too. Salmon and Mac and cheese.
Home again 30 Nov 2017, Pulled a banana peel out of my bag. I ate the fruit on the way to my first stop, at the urology MD.
Late lunch 30 Nov 2017 Newman’s stop for fish for tonight. Chose salmon. Grabbed a fish and chips with cod, add coconut shrimp. Tasty.
Brunch on the run 30 Nov 2017. Need to grab someting before swimming and head for Sonic. I was wiling to ry another coney dog, but they don’t have that special, so just a Chicago dog. I think a lot of the appeal, even in this destitute version, is the interesting mix of textures and flavors: the sweet pickle relish, the tart and salty kosher pickle, the cold smoothness of the tomatoes, the peppery snap of the hot peppers, the crunch of the onions, the softness of the bun, and the snap of the weiner itself.
