"Heya boss, I'm her-" He stopped when he saw the look on Moris' face. It was concerned and angry. Kouyo stood beside him and looked concerned as well.

"Come with us," Mori said, not giving Chuuya a chance to ask what was wrong. He followed as ordered, slightly worried. It didn't take long for them to arrive at the medical wing, where Chuuya raised an eyebrow.

"Go in. There is someone in there asking for you." Kouyo says, a small smile on her face. Chuuya looks to Mori who nods his head.

Chuuya opens the door and steps inside, Mori closing the door behind him and leaving with Kouyo. A curtain is drawn, hiding the only bed, Chuuyas assumes, is in use. He walks over and steps around it, nearly collapsing to his knees when he sees none other than you there.

"Hey, Chuu..." You say softly, your voice slightly scratchy. Your face has some scars that weren't there before as well as your arms but you are sat in front of him and you are alive.

"Y...Y/N?" He asks in disbelief. You smile and nod your head, opening your arms. It doesn't take more than a few seconds for you to be wrapped in Chuuyas arms, tears dampening your hair as he buries his face on the top of your head.

"Where have you been? Why... what happened?" He asks worried as

"I got injured badly on that mission... someone found me and took me to a hospital in another city. I was in a coma till a few days ago. Im so sorry Chuuya..." You say tears welling in your eyes. You had already heard about how hard he took your disappearance.

"I dont care. You're alive... you didn't leave... I knew you wouldn't leave" He says, stroking your hair as he kisses the top of your head. You smile and nod your head.

"Leave you? Never." You said, leaning up to plant a small kiss on his lips. You pull away too quickly for his liking. As before you can blink he places one hand on your cheek and bends down, capturing your lips with his once again.

He would die a drunk, but it would be drunk on you.

♧ A/N: So, this is the first oneshot I have written in a while and I hope you like it, but I am a little rusty (its defiantly not my best work, but i gotta get back into it somewhere). I am fully devoted to coming back and writing fanfiction again. I am in a much better place in my life and have finished college, so have plenty of time.

I decided I would come back with a series! None of the oneshots in this series will be linked. They are all going to be inspired by songs from Noah Kahans newest album, Stick Season.

You found yourself sitting in your car, at a red light. It was mid-November and you were on your way back from a mission in Tokyo. It was an uneventful mission much to your dismay. You were hoping for at least a little excitement, things had been extremely boring in the Mafia headquarters lately.

The red light seemed to be taking forever, the sound of your car humming softly and whatever trashy song was playing quietly over the radio. It was late at night and you wanted nothing more than to get back to headquarters, give your report and go to bed.

You looked out of your window, realising you were near a park. Once you were very familiar with. You sighed, feeling your heart tug you towards it, knowing it was a call that had to be answered one way or another. When the red light turned to green you turned the corner, instead of going straight on to headquarters and you parked up on the side of the road. You got out with another small sigh, crossing the road and walking through the thin line of trees till you entered the clearing.

It hadn't changed at all, in the 5-something years since you had come here. It was just as run-down, the slide rusty, the roundabout tilting over and the zipline missing its seat. The only thing still intact were the two swings, just like always. You walked over to them, pushing one slightly as you think back to the nights you spent sitting there, drinking cheap whiskey from a shop down the road that has been closed for years now. Though you weren't alone back then, like you are now. No, You had your boyfriend beside you. No, you had your friend.

Dazai Osamu. The demon Prodigy himself. You were never official though anyone who saw the two of you together would be able to tell something was going on between the two of you. And there was, for a while. You would sneak around the Port Mafia headquarters to find a private spot to make out, or you would buy cheap booze from the shop and sit in this park till the sun came up, you would sleep in each other's bed when the nightmares became too much to bare. You weren't together, but you weren't not together either. You were two horny, lonely teenagers who found each other in the dark. The only thing was, Dazai left.

You let out a small sigh when you saw the wall. It was a random brick wall on the edge of the park, covered in spray paint. You walked over and dragged your finger over one in particular. You remembered the day Dazai put it there. You were both tipsy and he was Mad at Mori for promoting Chuuya to Executive. So, in a tipsy daze, he pulled out a can of spray paint and wrote "Mori Sucs". It had been corrected grammatically by someone since you last came and you smiled half-heartedly as you walked back to your car and continued your drive to HQ, a tear dripping down your cheek.

TIME SKIP OF AN UNSPECIFIED AMOUNT OF TIME

You could feel your heart pounding in your chest. You had been told by numerous people he was alive and well, working for the Armed Detective Agency. But you didn't believe them, or you didn't want to anyway. You didn't want to believe that the boy you grew up with, the boy you kissed, the boy you loved would leave you in the dark without a word. But now you didn't have a choice. He was standing right there in front of you, like some ghost you could never bury.

"Ah~ I was hoping Mori would send you my Y/N!" He says. He stands with his hands in his pockets, he looks taller, healthier... happier and while you are happy about that, you wish you had been with him as he changed.

"So Fukuzawa sent you for the mission?" You said annoyed, trying to hide the fact you were on the verge of tears. You knew he would be able to see right through your annoyed facade, he always could read you like a book. But he didn't comment on it, instead, his smile dropped slightly as he let out a sigh and turned around to walk to the destination. It was a stakeout mission, both the ADA and PM coming to a truce as a new threat washed over Yokohama.

"So... how have you been?" He asks after sitting in tense and uncomfortable silence for far too long. You don't look at him, you can't.

"As fine as one can be when they think their best friend is dead." You say spitefully. You can almost hear his smile fall at your tone. In all the years you had been friends, you had never spoken to him with anything but love and happiness in your voice. You had been forends even before he joined the mafia. You would have followed him to the ends of the world and he wouldn't have even needed to ask.

"Are you angry at me?" He asks after what feels like forever. You let out a sigh and face him for the first time. His eyes were brighter. What was once a dark reddish brown was now a light chocolate colour.

"No. I'm not angry at you Dazai" You say, standing up. It was true. At first, you were, but after years of wishing for him to return you realised as long as he was happy, you didn't care, even if that meant he was gone. The leaves still fell in the fall, and the birds still sang in the morning. The world kept turning even when it felt like it was falling apart.

"You seem angry." He states, his voice has a hint of sadness, maybe fear? You couldn't quite tell but you didn't want to find out. If you didn't leave now you would cry and you couldn't handle that right now.

"I'm not angry at you. You are just the greatest thing I lost." You say softly, turning away from him and beginning to walk away. You could feel the tears welling in your eyes. You didn't care about finishing the mission, or the punishment you would get for failing it. You couldn't be with him any longer. You couldn't feel your heart break like it did years ago again.

TIME SKIP OF AN UNSPECIFIED AMOUNT OF TIME (sorry)

You found yourself back at the park again. You found yourself there a lot after your interaction with Dazai. As if something was calling you there. You sat on the swing rocking back and forth gently, you sigh and look up towards the wall, where you see a new bot of graffiti. You smile at the thought of stupid teens still coming here. You stood up and walked over, looking at it.

"Well be here forever." You say out loud, reading the words sprayed across the entire wall in F/C. You reach out to touch it, you didn't know why but you had an urge to do so. It was still wet. You had been here for a good hour or so now, how had you not noticed someone?

You turned around looking around the park, suddenly feeling like you were being watched. Then you saw him. Sat on the swings where you were moments before. Either your senses were lacking or he had gotten better and sneaking around. You let out a small sigh and walk over, sitting down on the swing beside him.

"I'm sorry." He says after a few moments of silence between the two of you. You turn to face him and told your head to the side.

"What for?" You ask. You already told him you weren't angry at him. And you weren't. You just wished to have been by his side as he joined the light.

"For leaving you behind." He states as if its obvious, kicking back slightly to make the swing start moving back and fourth. You couldn't help the small smile that come to your face as small flashes of his past came to you.

"I said I wasn't angry at you love." You say back, doing the same. Trying to get higher than him like in the old days.

"You did. But that doesn't excuse it." He says a chuckle leaving his lips as you swing higher than him and he sees the small smile on your lips. He missed it.

"If you want to go far... then you gotta go far," you say gently as the swing starts to slow down. You turn to face him as he comes to a full stop.

"I told you were gonna far."

He smiles at your words

"But you thought you would be beside me while I did it." H estates, you sigh. He could still read you like a book. You stop your swing from moving and look up to the night sky above. The mood is large and full, giving plenty of light for the two of you to see.

"I did." He stands up and walks in front of you, taking hold of the chains, just above your hands and leaning down.

"I had already led you into the dark. I didn't want to take you into the unknown." He says looking at you softly. You look up at him and roll your eyes.

"You know I would have followed you anywhere."

"That's why I didn't say goodbye. It was dangerous enough to leave myself. If I told you I was going you would have packed your car and come with me without a second thought." He pauses. It was true. You would have gone with him if he had told you and you wouldn't have taken no for an answer. It was also true that it was dangerous for him to leave, you and Chuuya had been questioned for hours, Mpri wanting to know if either of you knew anything about his disappearance. You found yourself wondering f Mori found him and killed him occasionally but shook the thought away.

" I had already lost Odasaku... I didn't want to lose you too. I couldn't lose you." He said sadly, you nod your head in understanding once again.

"It's okay... I'm happy for you... and I'm sure Oda would be too. You joined the light. You save people. You went far and I am happy for you Dazai." You say, your voice is genuine and gentle, as it always was with him.

"Would you still follow me?" He asks, leaning down, your faces inches apart.

"Even if I lied you would be able to tell." I state, your voice growing quieter as he leans in more with a chuckle. That chuckle made your heart flip and your stomach grows butterflies. As if your entire being knew him and was falling back into its old ways when around him.

"So you would?" He asks as a teasing smirk form on his lips. You knew he was teasing you now, wanting to hear you say it specifically. Yet you didn't mind.

"I would" You confirm.

His smirk grows into a smile before he leans all the way in, his lips pressing to your own. They are warmer than they used to be, and they aren't as chapped anymore. You lean into the kiss and close your eyes, arms slowly moving to wrap around his neck.

The kiss seemed to last forever though it would never be enough. He pulled away with a smile and a glint in his eye as he stands back up straight again and offers you a hand.

"Then come into the light with me."

A Broken Promise

You winced as Kunikida helped you to sit down on an old crate, closing the door behind him so you could both be covered from the gunfire outside. You had been hit. Your side was burning with the after-effects of a bullet grazing you.

This wasn't supposed to be a particularly hard battle. It was a simple in-and-out job the whole of the agency had to go on. But there were hundreds of people outnumbering you all and none of you could have been prepared for the sheer number the organisation had.

There was supposed to be around 30 maybe 50 max but they were in the hundreds when you arrived, quickly getting shot at. All hopes for a peaceful resolution going out the window.

The group had come from Europe, threatening to destroy Yokohoma, and the ADA just couldn't have that. But it seemed as though you would all have to retreat for now and come back better prepared and with the help of the Mafia, which waste something that had to be done often.

"Try to keep pressure on it." Kunikida said, finishing the makeshift compress he made out of his torn shirt. You nodded your head and did as he told, wincing as you put pressure on top of the wound. Yosano would have to stitch it later.

"We're outnumbered." You said. Kunikida didn't reply instead he placed his forehead to yours and sighed.

"We'll get through this, I promise" He whispered before placing a kiss on your cheek and standing once again. You knew this was one of the worst battles yet. You could tell that the moment you walked through the door and saw the glimpse of panic across Fukuzawas and Dazai's faces. That did not help to ease your nerves as Kunikida placed his hand and the door and checked outside to make sure it was clear.

"Lock it behind me. I love you." He said, stepping out and closing it behind him. You could hear the gunshots become loud and soften as the door opened and closed and you sighed in worry, reaching for the lock and twisting it till you heard a click.

You wanted to continue fighting. But after you you got split up from the rest and Kunikida found you bleeding out while trying to defend yourself he demanded you stay hidden to avoid worse. You couldn't argue much, already burning in pain and growing tired from the fighting and blood loss.

The gunshots were almost deafening and there didn't seem to ever be a break in them. You would occasionally hear the crash of an object or the growl of a tiger but aside from that it just seemed to be a rainstorm of bullets. All you could do was pray everyone would be ok, yourself included.

After what felt like hours, but was probably no less than 20 minutes everything fell silent. Before you heard someone shout and the loudest bang you had ever heard sounded across the building.

When you opened your eyes again you couldn't see. Everything was cloudy and your ears were ringing. You groaned in even more pain, coughing through dust as you tried to clear your lungs.

Once the air around you did clear enough for you to see you could tell what happened. A bomb or maybe even several had gone off.

"Y/N!" Someone yelled. You couldn't tell who but you knew it was one of your co-workers. You couched again, the pain in your side almost unbearable as you screamed back for help. Within a second you could see Dazai coming over to you and helping you to get up out of the ruble.

He scooped you up in his arms and carefully walked back, trying not to trip and injure you even more.

"Did we... win?" You asked, coughing again. He stayed looking ahead, but nodded his head, making you smile. That was good.

Dazai put you down, helping you to stand and lean on his for support amongst your co-workers as Fukuzawa stood before them. Your head was still ringing but your vision was mostly clear now and behind him, you could see the covered-up body of someone.

You couldn't tell who thought but as you looked at your friends and collegeues you knew it was one of your own. Yosano looked like she was about to burst into tears, something Atsushi, Kyoka and Kenji had already done. Dazai had an unreadable expression on his face though you knew it wasn't good and Ranpo looked upset and concerned for his friends. Tanizaki stood with Atsushi trying not to cry himself as he helped to calm Kyoka and Kenji down. That was when you realised who was missing. Kunikida.

"Where... Where is Kunikida?" You asked. And Yosano broke down next to you. Muttering that she was sorry and she did all she could.

"Y/N... Kunikida sacrificed himself to save the rest of us... He did not make it." Fukuzawa said, trying to find the best way to break the news to you. Though you couldn't hear much after he told you what Kunikida had done.

You fell to your knees and sobbed, feeling Dazai come beside you and pull you into his arms as you cried into his arms.

*1 Week Later*

It was pouring. But you couldn't bring yourself to move from your spot in front of the freshly placed dirt. Your friends had left a while ago to go to the wake while you stayed behind to have some alone time with your fiance.

You were supposed to be getting married in less than a year's time, so why? Why did he have to leave you? Why did he have to sacrifice himself?

You choked on a sob as a few tears ran down your cheeks. You hadn't gone home since the incident. It was yours AND Kunikida's home, not just yours. Everything there would remind you of him. His mug was probably still on the drying rack and his clothes would still be in the wardrobe. There would always be an empty spot where he would sit to read or cuddle. Even at the agency, you struggled to not find traces of him.

"You promised me, Kunikida..." You whispered, wiping the tears from your eyes. You never even got to say I love you back. He had closed the door before you got the chance.

"You're an idiot. You know that right?" You laughed sadly. You wished he didn't but he loved his job and his friends even if he didn't admit to it. You knew the risks of working for the ADA, all the members did and sadly sometimes not everyone can win. The ADA might have won, but you lost.

"I love you." You said, wiping your eyes once again before turning away and walking towards the exit.

You had a whole life planned together. You were supposed to get married and have kids someday have grandkids as well and travel the world after retiring before growing old together. Kunikidsa had it all planned but now it was all gone.

The only difference between you and Kunikida was that he didn't have to live with the pain of not living the life planned for you both.

Past Present Furture

You stared out over the ocean before you, sitting on an old bench that probably wouldn't last much longer. As far as you were aware you were the only one who ever sat on it.

You smiled sadly, it had been over 4 years since you last saw your lover here. You couldn't quite call him your boyfriend, because he wasn't. Not officially. But he was more than a friend.

Dazai Osamu. You could remember his name as if he had told you it yesterday.

*Flashback to when you were both 16 (6 years ago)*

You walked up the path through some trees to the cliff that overlooked the ocean. You walked up there quite often, needing a break from the boarding school life you had. You didn't know your parents and you didn't have many friends in the school, so you snuck away whenever you could.

Getting to the top you were shocked to find someone already there, standing on the edge of the cliff, arms outstretched.

"What are you doing?" You asked hoping it would scare the person into falling. The male turned around and faced you, a blank expression on his face.

"Nothing. What are you doing here?" He asked, walking away from the edge. You sighed in slight relief and walked towards the bench he was standing by, sitting down and looking at him. His eyes hadn't left you once, as if he were expecting something else.

"I just like it here, it's quiet." You smiled, and he nodded, sitting down beside you.

"I'm Y/N." You said, offering your hand. He took it and kissed the back of your knuckles, causing you to blush faintly.

"Dazai Osamu."

*Present*

You missed him, you could have sworn you saw him a few times throughout the years but you could never see him directly. It would be small flashes in your prefreal vision that would be gone by the time you turned to look.

Was he avoiding you?

You had spent 2 whole years together, avoiding other members of the mafia and making out in allys. You couldn't remember doing anything wrong. Maybe someone found out and snitched? So he was forced to stay away from you? No, that would never stop him from seeing you, you knew he didn't take threats lightly and you knew he rarely followed orders to the T.

Maybe he finally committed suicide? It wasn't entirely out of the question. He was attempting the day you met, which is something you found out rather soon into the relationship you had. You hoped he hadn't, though you would understand if you did. You had the same ability. Though yours wasn't quite as powerful as his and it didn't last as long or work as quick. So you knew the emptiness he felt, but you were scared of death and could never go through with something like that.

*Flashback to When You Were Both 18 (4 Years Ago)*

You tried to stifle a laugh as Dazai dragged you with him up to the hill where you first met. It had been 2 years since you last met, the both of you turning 18 earlier in the year.

"Hurry Up N/N!" He whined, trying to make you run faster. You laughed again and let go of his hand, overtaking him in a race to the top. He somehow managed to re-overtake you and get to the top at least a minute before you.

When you did reach the top, he was already laying down. You smiled and jogged over, laying down so you were next to him.

"Lets run away." He said, looking up at the stars. You turned to face him, his gaze not moving from the hundreds of dots above you as you shuffled a little closer. His hand found you and intertwined your fingers.

"Where?" You asked. If he was serious so were you. It's not like you had much in Yokohoma to stay for. You had no parents and your only friend was Dazai. You went to college sure, but it's nothing you couldn't do somewhere else. You would have to get a job first to pay for it, but that would be ok.

"How about England?" He said, finally turning to face you.

"We could live near the coast just like this, away from the city," He said, his eyes were reflecting the stars and you smiled, your heart beating a little faster.

"Let's do it!" And with that, he leaned forward and planted a kiss on your lips.

*Present*

You smiled at the final memory you had of him. After that, he never showed up again. Normally he would find you, or you would meet on top of the hill. But he never came back.

You were devastated of course. You had loved him and you had thought he loved you too. He had told you all about his life in the mafia, his partner Chuuya, his thoughts, his dreams what he wanted to do in the future he even talked in detail about his suicidal tendencies. You thought you were soulmates, and he did too. He said you were fated to meet. You had the same abilities, and you were the happiness to his sadness, the light to his dark and he told you he had loved you.

You had tried to convince yourself he told you all of that as a form of torture, maybe he enjoyed seeing you suffer. But you couldn't bring yourself to believe it long. The red line around your ring finger didn't help either.

It was Dazais's idea. Despite hating Pain the second you were both 18 he took you to a tattoo shop and paid for you both to get a matching red string. It was supposed to symbolise the red string of fate, a Japanese soulmate story.

You sighed as you stood up. Maybe you weren't soulmates. Whatever the reason behind Dazai leaving didn't change anything. He left. And it hurt. You still loved him to. Whenever you saw things that reminded you of him you would always smile and you found yourself always getting whiskey or Crab for him only to realise when you got back to your home he wasn't there to have it.

You walked closer to the edge of the cliff looking downwards. It was pretty far, not far enough to kill you but there were a few rocks and the closest bit of land you could swim to was a good 15 minutes away, and who knew what the current was like.

You understood Dazai. You understood why he wanted to die. He had nothing but the Mafia. Nothing but blood, pain and more blood. He had you as well but that was the only good. The bad outweighed the good by far. You couldn't blame him if he had killed himself, you probably would have if it were you.

You were considering it now. You had nothing either. You didn't have pain or bloodshed everywhere you looked, no. But you didn't have anything worthwhile. You had a 1 bedroom apartment which had no heating or aircon 90% of the time and the landlord was a bad one, you worked a small job as a barista in a little coffee shop with customers who were nothing but rude and you still had no friends. But you didn't have Dazai either.

"What are you doing?" You heard a voice ask behind you and you spin around, jumping at the sudden presence of another person, you stumbled forward as you tried not to lose your balance, falling on top of your knees.

You looked up to see a hand, offering some assistance. You grabbed his left hand and he pulled you up, though you didn't let go. There was a small red string tattoo around the ring finger of the hand you were holding.

"Osamu?" You asked, looking up to meet the eyes of the lover you once had. They were different, brighter, and happier though you could still see the warm chocolate and hazel in them. His eyes widened as he looked into your own eyes.

"N/N?" He asked, you nodded your head, tears welling up in your eyes. It was Dazai. He was alive and here.

"W-Where have you been?" You asked, wiping your eyes with the hand that wasn't still firmly being held.

"I've been- It's really you? It's actully you!" He said, picking you up and spinning you round smiling widely. You laughed and little and gripped his shoulders to steady yourself and he placed you back down. Before you could say anything he dipped down pacing one hand on your cheek before pressing his lips to yours.

"I missed you, my love." He said, pulling away. You smiled too wrapping him in a hug.

"You are the one who left... I missed you too though. I never stopped thinking about you." You said, sniffing as he held you closer.

"I know... I wish I took you with me but I couldn't risk you getting hurt. Come with me. I can explain everything."

*5 Years In The Future*

And he did explain everything. He explained everything from leaving the Port Mafia, to joining the ADA to the little things like his new friends and where he lived. He told you that after his 2 years of hiding he tried to find you but couldnt. He only ever found dead ends and the people who knew of you didn't know where you were. One even told him you had died. So he had stopped looking for you and came to the hill on rare occasions when it was dark.

You told him about your life and you quickly found yourself working at the agency. You also found yourself living with Dazai, who officially asked you to be his girlfriend. It took a while but eventually, you found your soulmate and you found something to live for. Dazai found the same and finally everything was complete.

"I love you." You said, no longer comfortable in the silence that has come over the both of you. You and Chuuya sat in the park, around 2AM, after finishing a mission. Neither of you was tired due to jet lag and adrenaline, and you weren't ready to part ways either. The silence had been comfortable, it always was when you were together, but with all the thoughts in your head, it grew too loud.

"W-What?" Chuuya said, turning to face you with a confused and shocked expression.

"I love you." You said again, that it was too late to take back what you said. Besides he had told you he loved you before. He was drunk but he still said it. You could blame it on the adrenaline, right?

"That shitty bastard put you up to this didn't he?" He growled, looking away with a tinge of red on his cheeks.

"What? No!" You said, kind of offended, not that you could blame him. It was something Dazai would do and you were surprised he hadn't asked you to do so already.

"You actually love me?"

"Yeah... I do." You said, softer. You were regretting having said anything at all. It was silent again, and now it wasn't the comfortable kind.

You stood up, about to say goodbye and go home. but your wrist was grabbed and you turned to face Chuuya who stood.

"Say it again." He said. You couldn't tell what he was feeling. His face was unreadable and his expression of happiness but fear and his voice displayed something similar.

"I love you!" You said, smiling wide, matching the same smile Chuuya had on his own face. You were giggling, bursting into full laughter when you were picked up and spun around, your legs wrapping around hs waist.

"I love you." You said while walking down the street, towards the apartment complex you both lived in. You never moved into the dorms when you started working at the agency, and Kunikida wanted to move out getting fed up with Dazai's late-night antics. He moved into a few doors down from you after you told him there was one for a sale.

It worked out quite well, as you could both walk home together after shifts and if it was dark out you didn't need to be alone. Kunikida also quite enjoyed walking home with you. He found it peaceful after a long day at the office, and your company was one he liked quite a lot. He liked you quite a bit and was planning his own confession, though this did ruin his ideals and schedule a bit.

"This was not part of the schedule! It was planned for 3 weeks from now!" He stated, crossing out some stuff in his notebook and scribbling some more stuff down.

"What?" You asked. 3 weeks from now? Did he know you were going to confess?

"Ah, my apologies Y/N. I had planned to confess similar feelings in 3 weeks' time. But you beat me to it."He said, snapping his book closed and putting it away.

"So you love me too?!" You said both happily and a little shocked. You didn't really expect Kunikida to feel the same way, you just wanted to get it of your chest and if worst came to worst you could say you meant as a friend.

"I do." He said, looking away from you with a slight blush on his cheeks.

"I love you Kunikida!" You said, smiling wide as you jumped into his arms to give him a hug. He only just caught you, preventing both of you from falling. He clicked his tongue but didn't pull away as he held you tightly.

"I love you Ryuu." You said. Eyes opening in shock as you realised what you had said. You didn't mean to say it out loud but by the confused expression on Akutagawas face, you undoubtedly said it aloud.

"What?" He said, monotone voice a lot harsher than you would have hoped for having just confessed your feelings accidentally.

"I uh... I love you." You said. You looked away from him, expecting him to regret you instantly. You had been friends for years. You were one of the only people who he showed his true personality to. Gin and Chuuya are the only other two you knew of.

"I- I need to report to the boss." He said, coughing before turning away from you and heading back to HQ. You stood there, at least he didn't turn you down directly? Though having him say nothing hurt as well.

*TIME SKIP TO A FEW HOURS LATER*

"You what?!" Chuuya screamed. He could not believe what he was hearing.

"I left," Akutagawa said, finally taking in the fact he had left you in the middle of the street after confessing your love for him. He was also realising that was not good based on Chuuyas's reaction.

"You dumbass! I told you last week you liked the damn girl! Fucking call her and apologise! You will be lucky if she accepts you fucking idiot!" Chuuya shouted, pointing at Akutagawa's phone which was sitting on the table in front of them.

He sighed and picked up the phone, calling you.

"Hello?" He heard your voice on the other end.

"I love you too." He said before quickly hanging up and avoiding eye contact with his superior. That was not an apology, but it was better than nothing.

And you were smiling happily on the other end of the phone, although a little shocked.

You had been dating for a few weeks after going out on a date that was set up by Dazai as a mission, finding you both liked each other quite a lot. Neither of you had said I love you yet, so you thought your lunch break would be a good time.

"I mean I love you too! I'm sorry Y/N." Atsushi said, you smiled and leaned over the table, kissing his cheek quickly before sitting back down.

Can't Sleep

You rolled over away from the wall and got up. You couldn't sleep. It had been hours since you had laid down on your bed and yet the sleep you so desperately needed wouldn't come.

It had been an extremely hard week. One of your cases failed and a building blew up, luckily no one died but a few were injured. Then you had to go on a mission with the Port Mafia and well that just ended in bloodshed and paperwork. Finally, you lost a bet with Dazai and had to cover his bill at a restaurant... which cost more than your weekly paycheck. It wasn't going well for you, but seeing Dazais smile made a small one of your own appear as you stood from the bed. He could help.

You grabbed your pillow and put on some slippers before slipping out of your dorm room and walking down the corridor and up the stairs to Dazais's room. He would be awake. He always was, like he was expecting you to appear. He probably was. You had been dating just under a year but neither of you was quite ready to move in together full time yet, living close to the agency was a bonus as well.

You knocked on the door and it opened a few moments later, Dazai wearing a pair of sweatpants with nothing but bandages coving his upper half, causing a faint blush to appear on your face.

"I can't sleep." You stated and he smirked, opening the door wider and letting you in.

You stepped inside and went to his bed, laying down in it and shuffling over so he could get back in as well. The blankets had been moved around and his suicide book was open on the bedside table, proving he had been awake.

"What's wrong, my love?" Dazai asked getting into bed and opening his arms for you, a silent request for a hug. You lay your head on his shoulder, placing one hand across his bandaged chest where you drew circles absentmindedly.

"It's been a tough week." You replied, voice tired and upset. Dazai knew he had been there after all. He started to play with your hair and hummed in acknowledgement.

"It has. But you have done well. You can sleep here if you like." He suggested. You didn't want to talk about it, and Dazai could sense that. It would only make you remember all the shitty stuff that had happened anyway. So he offered some small words or praise, leaving it at that. You smiled and nodded your head. The warmth from Dazais's body and his overall presence making you calm down and start to feel drowsy.

"Are you sure? I don't want to intrude." You said, knowing he didn't mind. He never did, if you didn't go to his room he would go to yours if he missed you. But something still made you ask, not that you would refuse.

"Whenever I sleep beside you. It's the best sleep I get." Dazai said as he reached over to turn off the lamp., The room fell into complete darkness and you sat up, allowing him to move around so he could get comfortable.

You felt a soft tug and allowed his hands to guide you back to him, ready for you both to fall asleep.

"I will chase all your nightmares away, I promise." You said, knowing that he didn't get nightmares around you. He would often come to your room if he had a particularly bad dream, that was how you became so close. He chuckled softly, before kissing the top of your head and pulling you closer.

"And I will chase away all your demons." He said, implying the guilt you felt over failed missions and cases. It didn't happen often but he knew you beat yourself up over it for a long time afterwards.

"I love you Osamu." You said, getting comfortable before starting to fall asleep.

Akutagawa held a hand over his mouth for a moment letting out a cough as he walked back home. It was the very early hours of the morning and it had started to snow. He didn't check the weather before he left and didn't take his winter coat. He didn't need to go into work for a few days anyway which was good, as he would likely fall ill after being in the cold for so long, but he knew you would look after him which caused a small smile to form on his lips

You were the reason he was out so late. He had asked to talk to Dazai and Chuuya about relationship advice, which turned out to be a bad idea since they both bickered and flirted the whole time. However Akutagawa did get one bit of information that was useful, he wasn't dying. He was just "in love". You made him sick. Everytime you laughed or hugged him his stomach felt as though it was doing sommersaults and whenever you were hurt or upset he was filled with rage towards whoever caused the pain. Whenever he woke up his first thought wold be about you and his last thought at night would be similar.

He had no idea what was going on, he wasn't fully convinced he was even capable of falling in love, let alone have someone reciprocate the feelings. But you were so nice to him, Dazai didn't even need to be told who Akutagawa was ta;king about, he instantly knew and he left the port mafia 4 years ago. Knowing Dazai he probably planned for the two of you to become partners of some sort.

Akutagawa didn't hate the idea of being with you. If he throughout about it you both acted like a couple anyway. You would fall asleep on his shoulder when on the bus or train or watching a movie. You would make him lunch because he would forget to eat if you didn't, you looked after him when he was sick and he looked after you. He would always have your favourite candy in his office in case you got hungry. He even brought your favourite perfume to keep at his house because you slept in his spare room one nigth and forgot it.

As he unlocked the door he smiled a little again, remembering the life you have lived together so far. You joined the mafia a few months after him and it didn't take long for you to call him your friend. For whatever reason, he would always deny such but he would never push you away when you hugged him and he would be the first to offer up his spare room whenever your heater broke.

But then he frowned. His door was already unlocked, and he NEVER forgot to lock it. Maybe Gin was home? She shouldn't be, she was on a mission in another part of the country for at least another 2 weeks.

He pushed open the door and activated Rashomon preparing to fight. He walked through his apartment in the dark, not needing a light to navigate through the familiar territory. Nothing was missing or out of place as far as he could tell, which was good. He walked into the corridor which led to the 2 bathrooms and 3 bedrooms, all of the doors were closed and when he tried Gins door it was locked, so that confirmed it wasn't her, she only locked the door when she wasn't home. He checked the spare room before entering his own, shocked at the site before him.

You were curled up on the center of his bed, hair a mess and cheeks red with a smile ion your lips. You were snoring softly but what really shocked Akutagwa was what you were holding. It was his coat.

"What are you doing to me?" He whispered, feeling his hear beat faster.

He moved towards the bed and moved the covers back as far as he could before picking you up and placing you back down before tucking you under the covers. He went to move away, to get some clothes to change into before sleeping in the spare room, but his hand was softly grabbed.

"Ryuuuu~ dont leaveeeee" You said, voice quite and slightly sluured, so you were tipsy.

"I need to change" He stated, taking your hand and placing it back down on the bed where you whined in protest.

"I wannaaaaa sleep wif you~" You said causing a small smile to pull on his lips, for uptenth time this eavening.

"Let me get chenged first..." He said, not really knowing if he should sleep in the same bed as you or not. It wouldn't be the first time. You did multiple times as kids, when you had a nightmare or he was feeling particularly sick. But now you were both adults and you were clearly drunk.

He chnaged quickly before standing on the other side of the bed, you rolled over to face him and pat the empty spot beside you. He got in slowly, trying to remain as still as possible, not knowing what he was supposed to do.

You moved closer, laying an arm over him and nuzzling your face into the crock of his neck, causing him to bluch slightly.

"I...I missed this." You said, yawning. You nuzzled into him more, wrapping the arm around his chest a little tighter.

"Wish I could sleep with you all the time." Akutagawas heart stopped as you whispered that. He wanted that too, he slept better in your presence, at least he definitely used to and there have been several occasions where Gin has come home to find you both asleep on the couch.

"Don't you have your own bed?" He asked, unsure of what he should say. You did have your own bed, he knew that. But you slept round his place so often it was like you didn't. Not that he minded, you would always make him breakfast on the nights you did stay over with Gin, who you were also close friends with.

"You're not in it. I like you..." You whispered, moving your hand so it rested on top of his chest and drawing mindlessly through the white shirt he had changed into. You didn't slur your words while you said it, you didn't know why you had said it. Alcohol was still clouding your mind slightly but you were sober enough to know what you were doing.

"I like you too." Akutagawa hesitated to speak. It was true he did like you. He just didn't know the true measurement of how much. Dazai claimed he was in love and Chuuya confirmed it, but what did they know? They had been fighting since they were 15.

"Hmmm, I like you more." You said, teasing him with a small giggle.

"I don't know about that." He replied instantly, pressing a small kiss to your forehead. You moved and looked to face him smiling sleepily. He had never kissed you sober before, not that he remembers kissing you otherwise. He had gotten drunk once in his life with Chuuya and came back to yours, he kissed your cheek then passed out.

"I love you Akuu" You said, happily. You didn't know if you would regret saying that or not. You didn't mean it as a friend. You were more than that, whether he chose to admit it or not, it was undeniable the two of you were more than friends.

"I...I think I am in love with you." He said, he sounded so unsure but a smile came to your face anyway. You knew he wasn't the best when it came to emotions and you were happy to help him along the way, as long as he loved you.

And he did
