Archie was in shock of what was unfolding before him. He’d never seen Cheryl legitimately upset, let alone crying like this. He felt bad for the girl and while she was so closed off, she was showing some vulnerability, and Archie wanted her to know that it was okay. He wasn’t going to blow her secret or anything. It was perfectly normal to react this way.
When she got up, Archie also got up from the chair and followed her, and immediately put his arm around her shoulders. Though, part of him was prepared for her to slap him. Still, he wanted her to know that he was there. “I… I know… I can’t imagine how you feel right now. I can’t believe he’s gone either. He was your twin brother… I can’t imagine how heart broken you are. You’re Cheryl Bombshell though, right? You’re gonna get through this. There’s a part of him still here with you, let his light shine through you.”
Cheryl needed to calm down because she was letting her walls down in front of someone she barely trusted. Sure, Archie was definitely sweet and trying to be a friend to Cheryl, but for some reason, her past trauma wouldn’t let him in any more than he already was. She knew she needed to take a few steps back and compose herself. Because anyone could see what was going down and ruin her reputation.
When Archie put his arm around her shoulders, her first reaction had been to flinch, but in a swift movement she simply pushed his arm off her body and wiped under her eyes, checking her fingers to make sure no mascara had run. ❝ Being Cheryl Bombshell has nothing to do with this, Archie. Around Jason I’m not― I wasn’t her. ❞ She let out a breath, finally managing to calm down.
thearchibaldandrews:
Archie frowned as Cheryl cried and told him it wasn’t going to be okay. He’d never gone through anything like this before, but he could empathize with her and understand why it felt that way. He sighed when she pulled away from him. Perhaps he shouldn’t have touched her hand, but then again, Archie had the tendency of being physically affectionate. “Hey… I know it may feel like that right now, but things will get better. You’ll get through this.” He tried assuring her.
Even though Cheryl was rejecting his comfort, Archie still wanted to show her that he was there. Whether she wanted to take the olive branch from him, that was up to her, but he wouldn’t judge her for not doing so, this wasn’t typical of Cheryl Blossom anyway.
Cheryl crying? Absolutely n o t common. In fact, no one had seen her cry - besides Dilton Doiley who found her crying on the rocks. Before that, Jason had been the only one who ever seen her cry. She kept it from her parents, and she also kept it from her ‘friends’. It showed vulnerability and weakness, something a HBIC did not show. Because people would find out her weak spots. Which is something she did not want. People preying on her to bring her down. Seeing the red hair in front of her made her more overwhelmed than she thought she’d be. It reminded her too much of Jason - someone who she’d never see again, much to her own selfishness. Maybe she should have persuaded Jason to stay - which meant she wouldn’t be dealing with this right now, and she wouldn’t be breaking down in front of Archie.
Standing up rather abruptly, Cheryl’s hands balled into fists, her nails pressing into the palms of her hand for a moment. ❝ I— ❞ Cheryl swallowed the lump in her throat, stuttering on her own words for a moment. It was nowhere near normal for Cheryl to trip over her own words and break down like this. But she couldn’t handle the red locks the boy in front of her adorned. ❝ He’s gone, Archie. He’s really gone. ❞

It was the end of the school day, and Heather had been trying to find the athletic department for the last twenty minutes or so. She was just about to give up, but before doing so, she made her way into the gymnasium to see if she could ask another student athlete about the soccer program and when tryouts were.
Once Heather entered the gym, she stopped dead in her tracks. She knew she’d see her here eventually, but she didn’t know if she was necessarily ready. It was Cheryl Blossom. The other girl truly was an enigma, because before she even saw Heather she began spewing something about auditions. Then again, Heather had seen this side of Cheryl before and found it to be comical. “Cheryl Bombshell, fancy seeing you here.” She said with a small smile. “Are you just going to stand there bitching me out, or are you going to come give your old friend a hug? Besides, you know the cheer squad was never my thing.” Heather said playfully.
Cheryl could feel her heart drop in her chest. Heather McCall. The girl she had fallen in love with over a summer fling and had also had the girl ripped away from her at the touch of a hand and the bark of a word. Because her parents were extremely homophobic. Especially when they find her daughter in bed with a girl they had assumed was like a sister to Cheryl, but it was clear they were much more. She thought Heather was gone - for good. So she had erased the girl from her mind. Buried those memories at the back of her mind and forgotten about the girl. Until now.
❝ As if I want your sapphic hands on my body, ❞ Cheryl scoffed, keeping her arms crossed over her body, almost like a security barrier to keep the girl away from her. ❝ Why are you here? ❞ She asked, though her tone was much more demanding than questioning. ❝ I thought you left. ❞

After football practice, Moose helped his coach put away most of the equipment, which took a long time, but he wanted to delay going home as long as possible. He even took an extended shower in the locker room, though it wasn’t extremely nice. Still, it was an excuse to stay after school a bit longer. Staying an hour after practice kept him there longer than he’d expected, and he knew that he needed to get home within the next hour otherwise his parents would get suspicious. Unfortunately, hovercraft parents were the worst.
Moose was making his way through the gymnasium to head out to his car since it was the faster way out of the school. Though, as he was passing through, he noticed the Vixen tryouts were just ending, and he wanted to see if he could score any ladies. However, it was just Cheryl Blossom, who wasn’t too bad looking. Moose immediately smirked at her when she spoke. “I was just simply passing through, sweetheart. What’s got your panties in a bunch today?”
Cheryl rolled her eyes at the words that were spoken by the male that had been standing in front of her. ❝ Shut it, Marmaduke. And don’t call me sweetheart, you misogynistic airhead. ❞ She glared at him, moving away from him so she could gather her stuff. Because she wanted to get away from Moose before he possibly tried to make her a conquest.
❝ If you’re passing through, why don’t you keep on walking and stop asking me about my panties. Because there’s no way that you’re going to find out. ❞ She huffed, kneeling down to grab her duffle bag and sling it over her shoulder.
thearchibaldandrews:
That did it. Archie knew that it was more than likely a bad idea to mention Jason, but then again, Cheryl wasn’t the type who liked small talk either, and he wanted to be honest with her. Still, Archie felt bad, because beneath her cold as ice demeanor, he could see her falling apart. He saw the tears forming behind her eyes and it broke his heart to see her this way.
“Hey… Cheryl…” Archie began. He reached his hand across the table for her to take. “I’m so sorry… It’s gonna be okay. It will be.” He said gently. The boy hoped that he was able to comfort her some how.
Cheryl’s breath hitched in her throat when Archie grabbed her hand. She definitely wasn’t used to the attention or a touch of another. Not when it was like this. When they wanted to comfort her. She was more used to the rough grab of a guy when she was in bed with them. It was all she knew, really. Comfort wasn’t something she knew.
❝ Nothing is going to be okay ever again, Archie. ❞ Cheryl spoke quietly yet her voice wasn’t soft. It was cold. ❝ My twin brother is dead. I’m the suspect of his murder investigation AND my parents couldn’t care less how I feel. N O T H I N G is going to be okay. ❞ She breathed, out, pulling her hand away rather quickly once her outburst had finished.

Veronica was never late for anything, so this was a first. It wasn’t her fault, the principal had stopped her for a chat, and it wasn’t scheduled into her planner. But she wouldn’t run towards the gym, she would make her way gracefully and force herself into getting an audition.
Seeing the redhead girl in the gym, she was about to speak before she was interrupted. “Cheryl.” She said, standing her ground, not letting Cheryl’s stare penetrate her icy exterior. “You should let me audition. It’s in your best interest.”
Cheryl looked over the dark hard girl in front of her, raising an eyebrow at her words. ❝ Lateness is not something I want on my squad,❞ Cheryl stated rather boldly, her stare intense. ❝ And quite frankly - why should I let you audition now? It’s thirty minutes past the cutoff. Tardiness is not what I want. ❞
Keeping her arms crossed over her chest, Cheryl shifted from one for to another, keeping her eyes on Veronica. ❝ And pray tell, Blue Jasmine, how it is my best interest? ❞ Her stare was still cold, not ready to give in.
thearchibaldandrews:
“Sounds like fun, right?” Archie asked somewhat rhetorically, though if she wanted to respond, that wouldn’t hurt. “With some of the seniors graduating last year, it might be nice to have a bigger squad again.” He said with a shrug. When Cheryl asked about the Bulldogs, Archie was somewhat hesitant to respond. Truth be told, before practice they would be having a meeting to discuss the vacant captaincy. He knew it would probably be triggering for Cheryl, but he didn’t want to be dishonest either.
“The Bulldogs are fine. We have a meeting before practice to discuss tryouts for captain…” Archie admitted. He searched Cheryl’s face for any hit of sadness and sighed to himself. “I’m sorry…” He began. “If I’m being honest, I was kind of trying to avoid talking about Jason, I didn’t want to make you upset… But uh… While we’re kind of talking and skirting around it, I want you to know that I’m here for you.” Archie said, smiling shyly at her.
Listening to the ginger stumble on his own words, Cheryl watched in amusement. She’d be lying if she said Archie wasn’t somewhat adorable. But not her type. No. He looked too much like Jason - and that heightened her anxieties. That someone might come by and accuse her of incestuous acts, because Archie looked like Jason so that must mean Cheryl and Jason were... more than brother and sister. Those are the rumours that messed her up.
Sucking in a breath when Archie mentioned Jason, she had to force herself not to cry. Because this was all too much for her. She couldn’t keep her walls up forever. But she’d try her hardest. ❝ It’s fine, ❞ she started, her voice cold, ❝ thank you, Archie, but I don’t need any shoulders to cry on. I’m fine. ❞ She really wasn’t fine, but she preferred to keep that to herself. Emotions were a sign of weakness. Especially crying. Yet it was clear there were tears in her eyes.

The raven-haired girl was silently cursing herself as Cheryl spoke. Of course she waited too long to finally step up. The girl before her wasn’t known for her kindness, but maybe this once for Melody she might react different. “Actually I am here for auditions,” Melody finally spoke up. “Orchestra practice just ended so I was running a little late. Are you still taking auditions?”
Cheryl let out a sigh, thinking for a moment. She knew it wasn’t fair to anyone else that wanted to try out for the Vixens, but she did owe Melody a lot. Especially with the Pussycats. ❝Fine. But just this once. And don’t tell anyone I’m doing this for you, got it?❞ She looked down at her white shoes for a moment. ❝Do you have anything prepared?❞
℃ — Standing in the gymnasium at Riverdale High, Cheryl adjusted the skirt of her Vixen uniform, having just finished the auditions to join the infamous cheer team that she was the captain of. It was hard work - making sure everything was in order and perfect, but the Blossom girl liked hard work. It prepared you for college and life outside of high school, though her trust fund clearly showed she was set for life after high school.
Turning around, she saw someone also standing in the gym, which startled her slightly. ❝ God- you’re like Ruth Gordon standing there with a tannis root. Make a noise or something. ❞ She crossed her arms over her chest, narrowing her eyes at the person. ❝ Anyway- I assume you’re not here for auditions. They’re over. So. What do you want? ❞
thearchibaldandrews:
Archie grinned at Cheryl and lead her to the end of the hallway. There was a small coffee stand across from Riverdale High School that Archie frequented from time to time. Once they reached the stand, he ordered his usual white chocolate mocha. Then turned to Cheryl and said “And whatever she’s having.” Archie paid the barista before leading them to a small table located on the side of the stand.
Once they brought the coffee to the counter, Archie picked up the two cups and handed Cheryl hers. “So, how are things going with the Vixens?” He asked curiously, deciding to make some more small talk.
Cheryl silently followed beside Archie, though when they approached the coffee stand, she ordered an iced chai latte with almond milk. Which wasn’t something she drank on the regular, though when she wanted to splurge a little, that’s what she went for.
Thanking Archie, Cheryl hummed, taking a sip of the latte. ❝ They’re good. Weatherbee wants us to hold auditions again to bring a few more Vixens onto the team. So that’s going to be happening. ❞ She looked at him, a little bothered by small talk. It made her uncomfortable. ❝ What about you? How’s life with the Bulldogs? ❞

Archie smiled back at her. He was going to head to the weight room and do some lifting before practice, but was debating grabbing a coffee, and so he decided it would only be customary to ask Cheryl Blossom to accompany him. Typically, he was intimidated by her, but he wanted her to know that she had a friend in him.
“Well, I have about an hour before football practice. Do you maybe want to grab some coffee and hang out for a little bit before I have to come back here?” He asked curiously. Though, part of him assumed that she would tell him no.
Cheryl had this look of curiosity as Archie had asked her to accompany him to get coffee. Her brow was slightly raised as she silently questioned him, though let out a breath, she nodded at the redhead that stood in front of her, almost resembling Jason.
❝ Sure thing, Archie Andrews. Lead the way, ❞ she spoke smoothly, her voice holding a steady emotion, yet the Blossom girl thought she was hanging on by a thread. That her emotions would pull her apart at any second.
I’m back from hiatus ! Though I do think I’m coming down with the flu. Anyway. I’ll be on for the rest of the evening doing replies and starters and such. DM me if you’d like to plot !

Rolling her eyes as Betty cut off their conversation, Cheryl was tempted to walk away, but she needed to know Betty’s schedule. ❝ Before I was rudely interupted - as I was saying, Betty Draper, I need to know your preferred nights for cheer practice. At the moment, I have Tuesdays and Thursdays set. ❞
