I don’t want to take away from the O.P.’s intent because that’s exactly what I thought too at the time. Except my take now is the band was not falling apart.
The band didn’t screw up and face disaster.
T.O.P’s problems did not topple the band. He took his lumps, he admitted he did wrong, got the help he needed,endured the criticism and kept his head down and worked hard for two years. And he’s still apologizing for it. His band mates supported him in recovery. There was no disbandment.
Seungri made himself a victim and quit the band immediately at the first spark of legal trouble. He had done exactly as his band mates had begged him not to when leaving him as the sole face of what they built. He refuted criticism and deflected responsibilty. He left on his own. He was not kicked out, there was not a rift. He just “adiosed” out and left a mess in his wake the likes of which kpop had never seen.
The timing really was absolutely surreal but apparently this had been years in the making before coming to a head. He made a choice to not just burn but to nuke his bridges back to the entertainment world.
It still hurts. I don’t think anybody actually wanted this.
But I’m tired of the negative thinking, including my own, about what BigBang can or can’t do now. They are still around, still have performing members, and we have yet to know the future, what the plans will be when the remaining members are able to reunite.
They went on without T.O.P when they had to. Daesung and Taeyang have kept the flag waving in public and for fans even though they were just two.
There is no “can’t” because someone decamped. The band itself did nothing wrong that would prevent them from coming back. You accept what is and move on. Maybe not how we or even they want, but I believe they’ll do what’s best for them.
