Summary: Senku has terrible luck, and his friends try and make him realize it.
It was obvious to anyone who wasnβt obsessed with logic and variables. Unlike Senku who swore up and down that luck wasnβt a real thing.
Something happening purely by chance wasnβt logical. Science explained everything, including so-called luck.
βLuck is just the human brain noticing seemingly random events. Itβs a placebo.β Senku picked at his ear.
It was the logical reason.
βLuck is a real thing dude!β Taiju yelled out.
βTaiju is rightβ¦ and you have horrible luck Senku.β Yuzuriha said sheepishly. βI mean, how else do you explain your encounters with her.β
Of course Senku knew exactly who she was talking about. The girl in the year above himβ you.
An intelligent woman, someone who was majoring in psychology.
The same woman who Senku just so happened to maybe have a slight crush onβ unbeknownst to everyone else.
βHuh? Thatβs not bad luckββ Senku was cut off by Taiju throwing an arm around his shoulder.
βSENKU! Your luck is so bad dude!β He cried out.
Yuzuriha sighed. βHow did you even manage to completely knock over her entire lunch?β
Senku shoved Taiju away and waved her off. βThat wasnβt me being unlucky, itβs perfectly explained by science. The humidity was up by 15.6% because of earlier storms. Along with the spill of another studentβ which allowed me to slip, the air being more humid made-β
Senku was cut off once again.
βOoh, youβre talking about how Senku ruined the poor second-year girls food last week?β Gen hummed, deliberately being annoying.
Gen had already teased Senku about this earlier situation, claiming Senku had slipped because of nerves (which wasnβt entirely wrong, he was too focused on staring at you to notice the large puddle in the room)
βThis conversation is getting way off topicββ
βOh yeah! What about when he went to give her his notes in history and he slipped and fell in front of the whole lecture?β Taiju reminded.
Senku ran a hand down his face. Of course the big oaf had to tell Gen of that miscalculation.
He was going to give you his notes for the first hour of the lecture you had missedβ you know, being a good classmate and all, and he happened to slip.
It was a miscalculation. He hadnβt expected the step to be 2 inches shorter than the one in chemistry class. And well, his notes slipped and flew everywhere.
By the time Senku had gathered them, and regained his dignity, you had left the lecture with your friends.
βOh! Dear olβ Senku never mentioned this.β Gen smirked, already winning this battle.
βMhm! Oh and when Senku accidentally tripped over her bag making everything fall out?β Taiju said thoughtfully. βYou really do have bad luck dude.β
The tips of Senkus ears turned pink. βThat wasnβt-β
βOoh- and what was dear senku trying to accomplish?β Gen grinned, already knowing what Taiju would say.
βHe was gonna invite her to our rocket testing but-β
Senku ran a hand down his face. The big oaf just wouldnβt shut up. βHe tripped over her bag!β
Gen grinned wider (if that was even possible). βHeheh. So, Senku has a crush!β
Taiju and Yuzuriha paused.
Taiju was the first to break the silence. βWHAT! SENKU! You never told me you had a crush!!β
Senku winced at the volume. βI never said anything because itβs ten billion percent incorrect.β
Yuzuriha looked deep in thought, Taiju looked confused, and Gen of course looked pleased with himself.
βThe mentalist has no idea what heβs talking about. Logically speaking, all of those instances are explained by science.β Senku looked bored, but even a fool could see the pink tips of his ears.
βHeh.β Gen narrowed his eyes with a sly smile. Oh, he knew exactly how heβd get Senku to admit his feelings. βOh? Then explain these logical points?β
Now Taiju and Yuzuriha were both looking at Senku.
βIβm pretty sure itβs just bad luck.β Yuzuriha mumbled.
Senku boredly picked at his ear. βAll instances of interaction with the second year have been explained by science. Old man Richard Wiseman already did an experiment based on human behavior with the so-called βluckβ-β Senku went on about how the experiment ended up being conclusive to psychology rather than probability.
Unbeknownst to him, you just so happened to be walking past, and overheard.
βUh senku-β yuzuriha started, trying to warn Senku when she noticed you approaching, but of course the scientist thought she was trying to correct him.
βI know what youβre thinking, my luck must be horrible right? Wrong. It all falls down to the psychology of the matter. Itβs not a pattern unless youβre looking for a pattern, which you all are. But I donβt have a crush-β
You hum, butting in. βCorrect. Richard Wisemanβs experiment on the matter revealed that people make their own good and bad fortune.β You stand beside Senku now, your bag hung over your shoulder. βHonestly luck was never something that could be achieved, you could never recreate good and bad luck whenever you wanted.β
You were beside him. Actually speaking to him. Actually in his conversation.
Gen grinned. βOh- youβre the second year, right?β
You smiled, a little confused at what he was hinting at. βYup!β You introduce yourself. βSorry, I sorta butted in your conversation, I just get passionate about psychology, especially when I overhear people speaking about it.β You rub the back of your head sheepishly.
Senku cleared his throat. βItβs fine. You were ten billion percent correct about everything you said.β
You grin. βOf course! Luck, fortune, prayerβ all of that interests me. Not for fake unexplained reasons, but for the genuine science behind it, ya know.β
Senku simply nodded, because yeahβ¦ he did know. He felt the same exact way about the way everything worked. He wanted to know everything the world had to share, and you were the same way. Curiousβ ready to learn. Everything could be explained by science.
βAnyway, Iβll see you guys around.β
Then you were gone, waving a hand over your shoulder as you caught up with your friends.
βOh my gosh you really do have a crush!β Yuzuriha gushed out excitedly.
Senku quickly glanced away from where you were standing moments prior, masking his expression to one of indifference. Of course he couldnβt wipe the slight blush on his face though.
βCompletely illogical. Feelings are inefficient, completely useless.β But even as he said it, he couldnβt help but glance back toward the direction you left toward.
βThe great Senku has managed to get a crush on a second year student who is obsessed with psychology. The world works in mysterious ways.β Gen grinned slyly.
βI think her showing up was proof of your bad luck Senku.β Yuzuriha said.
Honestly, Senku couldnβt help but overthink his calculations. I mean, it really was bad timing you just so happened to show up as he was explaining why he didnβt have a crush on you.
Maybe luck did exist, and of course Senku had the worst of it.
