i need to rant about blocktales this game is genuinely awesome. i highly recommend it. spoilers below btw

this game looks and feels and seems like a silly little roblox rpg and it IS!! but!! theres SO MUCH DEPTH OT IT this probably wotn be a chronological rant but whatever

FIRST OF ALL. all of the characters even the npcs have so much to them. but you have to go looking for it. to those reading this who have/plan to play the game and dont talk to the npcs, i honestly encourage you to!! ESPECIALLY in the third chapter.

if not the npcs then look into talking to the kind of side character npcs (mayor monty, jim, etc.).

in chapter 1 i am INSANE about jim and cruel king and monty specifically (more jim and cruel king)

the fact that you can find jim's journal and hes talking about the mining operation he was watching over and how the miners were talking about finding gold but never directly told them . AND HE DIDNT REALIZE WHAT WAS ACTUALLY GOING ON

even as the miners gave him dirty looks and, from what i understood through the implications, stole the gold they found, he still tried to give him higher paychecks and was generally nice and!!

when they STOPPED SHOWING UP TO WORK HE WENT LOOKING FOR THEM

AND GOT. TRAPPED UNDER RUBBLE.

after you save him he literally bakes you an ENTIRE PIZZA. that heals 50 HP. like what the fuck dude why is he so nice i LOV EHIMMM

AND ALSO THIS DIALOGUE. THIS. THI

its all so AMAZING and SWEET but

..on top of that though?

you can Leave jim to die under the rubble.

You're told. by the mayor. to go save him right? or try to find him?? but you can just... Leave him there. the game doesn't force you to save him. and if you finish the chapter without saving him he fucking dies. and later on in chapter 3 he talks about not being able to see and not wanting to leave mayor monty

SPEKAING OF MAYOR MONTY AND JIM they almost have a father/son bond. the way monty specifically asks you to find jim even though hes just his acocuntant and the way hes concerned about him and OUGHH

mayor monty btw. i dont know ho wmany people see it, because i doubt people actually go back to talk to monty. i honestly found it on accident

i wanted to see if there was extra dialogue for finding jim and there was! but there was. also more to it

if you talk to him hes surprised he has an actual visitor. someone who just wants to talk to him and odenst want anything. and

he tells you stories. about himself. about his life. he tells you about an adventure had with his wife kamilla and how they got stranded on an island and managed to escape AND.

and thats just the first time you talk to him. you can come back. and i bet you less people find that dialogue.

if you come back he tells you about mayor thaniyel. he tells you about a silly little hotdog eating contest they were in and you just get to see into his character and mayor thanyiel's character and!!

he thought he won but a girl past him and he found out that SHE actually won and

AND HE REVEALS HOW SHE ENDED UP AS HIS WIFE KAMILLA AND THEY RETURNED NEXT YEAR AS BEING MARRIED AND. AND. THIS. THIS.

the way he talks about his wife. the way he sounds so genuinely thankful for you to have come and listened and you cant see it in the screenshots but in game his text shakes a little when he goes quiet. and its just. it feels... real

and the fact that you only find this if you go looking.

this is just about some of the less important characters!! SO. LETS GET ONTO THE BLACKROCK KINGDOM.

small notes. since they're a little less important but still!!!

THERES. a guard in the basement. and you can blow him up while he sleeps. and. this seems a little insignificant right cause its an npc thats sleeping and doesnt talk or anything. BUT HE APPEARS IN CHAPTER 3. WITH DIALOGUE. IF YOU KILL HIM HE DOESNT APPEAR.

the kitchen wizard . you ruin his food . and the potion hes making blows up ands flopped on the ground right?.. If you come back later in the chapter hes fucking dead. Theres a grave. Theres a grave. He's literallly dea

theres a group of guards that stop you from approaching the king and you Drop a chandelier on them and they all have dialogue about being injured and hurt and . hhjgf

THE CRUEL KING. THE BOSS OF THE CHAPTER. YOU FIGHT HIM AND. and.

you find out he froze roadtown because of the ice dagger he has. and the ice dagger told him about his kingdom falling. and he talks about how his people will be without their homes and their happiness and he wants to stop that . and

AND.

AND THEN. WHEN YOU BEAT HIM.

AND HE FUCKIJNG DIES. RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. TURNS INTO SNOW/ICE. and you win. you won. thats what you wanted right you won you got the dagger you

But the game makes you know that what you've done has consequences

later on in the game during chapter 3 you can find some retired knights. and their dialogue is...

...interesting

one of the guards gives a speech about how the kingdom has fallen even since the king died and he just. doesn't know what to do with his life beyond that. i would provide screenshots but unfortunately i couldn't re-read what he said

remember that thing i mentioned about a guard in the basement? yea. i unfortunately also cant give his dialogue because i may have. Killed Him. but apparently he blames himself for the kingdom's fall

and its just. god.

the other part? is that? you never learn the name of the king. the cruel king is all you know him as.

i dont think anyone else in the game, from what i remember/have seen, call him the cruel king. hes just... their king. his knights weren't evil, they were protecting him. and..

the fact that what he was doing. was the thing that made his kingdom fall. the fact that the dagger lied to him and the fact that his efforts were the thing that caused the downfall in the first place and Jesus Christ.

yes the king did freeze roadtown and stole the dagger but i dont believe he was really .. malicious. he didnt do good things but he didnt have bad intent

and... theres a little hidden part of the game. the guru. he asks you how you're feeling and depending on your answer

you refight the bosses. sort of like inner versions of them. the versions that plague your mind after their defeat

and the king's dialogue is... certainly something.
