Dear National Abstinence Education Association:
Dear National Abstinence Education Association:
In order for an organization to succeed it must have clear vision and goals. From your website I see your goal is to represent individuals in the practice of abstinent education. I understand you provide research and raw data to support abstinence only mentality.Â
I think it would be great for these children and youths learning about abstinence only to understand a common misconception they probably have been told their entire lives. English Philosopher, Sir Francis Bacon, once wrote,  "ipsa scientia potestas est," translating to, knowledge itself is power. I am aghast that children and youths are taught this! We must steer them in the right direction! We must tell them, show them, the fault in Sir Bacon’s logic. We must change this common misconception.
Knowledge is power, unless it is in regards to your reproductive health.
Knowledge is power, unless you question your sexuality.Â
Knowledge is power, unless you have natural sexual urges.
Knowledge is power, unless someone disagrees with the NAEA.
We need our future leaders to realize that abstinence only is the only way and you will have power if you deny yourself knowledge of your own body. I understand that in many states the validity or truth behind sexual health and abstinence only education is beyond reproach. But, common now, at least give us this one!Â
Ciao, Yn
