“I hope you’re aware not everyone wants to be a quidditch player. And if they do, at that age, it doesn’t last that long for the majority.” Claire was trying her hardest not to be mean or discredit what Cormac was saying. Sure, he could be a jerk when he wanted to be, but… what damage would it be to date him for a little while. Hell, she’d be doing him a favor as far as she was concerned. It shouldn’t be too hard anyway.
Scooting closer to him, she could feel herself already displaying that famous silvery glow on her skin, and her hair, even if the hue toned it down a little bit. “Why are you all alone out here, Cormac? Surely making fun of first years is not your only hobby.”
" I know that But being able to fly a broom is a good skill for someone to... " He paused as he looked over at her. Suddenly, Ciaran McLaggen felt something that he never felt in his entire lifetime. He felt DUMBFOUNDED. Merlin, she was beautiful. She was somehow beautiful in a way that other girls weren't. There was something totally etheral about her. Ciaran felt like his mouth was filled with cotton and noticed his hands were sweating. He quickly wiped them off on his pants furiously to avoid any embarassment.
" Uh.. Ciaran.. " He corrected. The slip in his name would have typically made him more annoyed, but he found himself not wanting to do anything to upset her. The male casually ran a hand through his hair before he shrugged his shoulders in respons to her question. " Came out here to see if the Pitch was free, " He explained, " I wanted to practice. " His lips soon tugged into a charming smile as he tried to act a bit more like his usually confident self. " And you? " He asked, head tilted, " Come to get some practice in? "
“Actually… ” She mocked him, showing her teeth and all when she said the word. “You’re the most boring person to ever set foot in here.” Andy was about as sweet and nice as the pudding served every night at the Great Hall, but some people… oh, some people. “You know… Some kids can be themselves and not care about a troll like you. That’s why it’s important to coddle them, so they know they don’t have to deal with garbage coming from people like you, if they don’t want to.” She shrugged as well, giving him both an amused and a stern look.
“I’m not sure having an angry ghoul yelling non-sense at them is going to give them any insight of what the real world is going to be like. So bring it down two notches, will you? Thank you.”
At her words, Ciaran glanced over at her with a genuinely surprised look. Well, look at that. The Hufflepuff had a little bit of SPUNK to her. If he were being perfectly honest, he had always thought she was a bit of a stick in the mud. " Ouch, " Ciaran replied with an overexaggerated wince, " I guess that I've been put right in my place. " His head tilted at her curiously as a light smirk appeared on his features. " You're a fiery little lass, aren't you? " He questioned.
The Gryffindor's shoulders shrugged in response to her final remarks. " I wouldn't say that, " The male replied, " World's made up of people that are always goin' to be superior to you in one way or another. Not everyone is goin' to sugarcoat things for you. So, you eventually just gotta toughen yourself up to deal with it. "
Aurora placed a hand over her mouth to prevent giggling. The first years were so precious. Their naivety was endearing to her. She wanted to help, but knew they were in the capable hands of an instructor and would soon learn. “I believe so,” Aurora said softly, “It’s kinda adorable.”
" Uh yeah... adorable.. " Ciaran's voice trailed to show that he thought it was anything but adorable. His gaze wandered back to the first years in question and he visibly winced as one fell off their broom. " Just hope that they get better, " He remarked, " If this is all we have to hope for for the future of the Quidditch teams.. we're in trouble. "
“Must you be so mean about it?” She asked, a little bit of annoyance showing in her voice as she did so. “They’re eleven. They’re learning. What, did you get on one of those and got it perfect the first time around?” Honestly, a lot of people did, but that didn’t mean they could make fun of others, or react the way Ciaran did.
" Actually.. yeah, I was perfect the first time around, " Ciaran responded without any hesitation. He was perfect or else he would have to face the wrath that belonged to Cormac McLaggen. His eyes rolled before he added in his next remark. " You know.. it really doesn't do them any favors to CODDLE them, " Ciaran muttered. The Gryffindor definitely didn't get coddled. His shoulders shrugged, " Life is going to get tough sooner or later. Best they learn to have some nerve now. "
“ Merlin’s beard.. “ Ciaran muttered to himself as he watched the first years. His expression clearly showing just how appalled he was by what was happening on the Pitch in front of him. He shook his head as one of them actually mounted their broom backwards. “ Am I really seein’ this? “ He questioned, “ Did that one just get on their broom BACKWARDS? “
( KJ APA ) ⤬ There goes CIARAN MCLAGGEN. I hear they’re SEVENTEEN, a SIXTH YEAR. Would you believe HE really is a GRYFFINDOR? At least, I’ve heard they’re BOLD and DARING, but they also seem somewhat ARROGANT and HOT-TEMPERED. For a HALF-BLOOD, I think they’re alright, but you never know.
Hi pals! I’m Marie. I thought that I would introduce myself before I got started with this. I’m a twenty-four year old recent graduate school graduate. You can usually find me stressing over job applications to be honest. But, when I am not doing that, I am usually fan girling over fictional characters and ships. Anyways, get ready for the shittiest introduction of your life because I am still kind of trying to figure out Ciaran here.
If you can’t tell by his name, Ciaran is the son of that douchebag that went out with Hermione that one time. Yeah, Cormac McLaggen. That guy. Unfortunately, Mr. McLaggen never had the stellar Quidditch career that he hoped for after his graduation from Hogwarts. He did manage, however, to get a decent job at the Ministry due to his family’s connections. His failures to pursue a career in Quidditch is something that he is quite jaded about, however.
So much so, in fact, that he ended up pushing this dream onto the shoulders of his son from a young age. He was training Ciaran to be a Keeper from the very moment that he could fly well. Cormac was somewhat of a Nazi in his drills, showing the boy a lot more harshness than he ever did love. This was something that ultimately put a strain on Cormac’s relationship with his son and wife--later leading to a divorce and custody battle when Ciaran was about twelve years old.
Unsurprisingly, Ciaran’s early life has been a bit unstable. He would always hear his parents arguing over one matter or another. This was mostly due to the pressure that Cormac tried to put on Ciaran at such a young age. Pressure that Ciaran didn’t even really register. He was only a boy, after all, and didn’t see anything wrong with being just like his father. But, it was also partially due to the fact that Cormac still had a similar attitude to what he had in Hogwarts which lead him to be less than a desirable husband for his wife.
Ciaran has always tried to ignore those parts of his life, however. He instead tries to put on the charade that his life is totally normal. Around Hogwarts, he is known for constantly having a wide grin on his features. He has always had a certain level of charisma about him that draws people in and lock their interest. It is always easy to know when Ciaran is in the room. It is really difficult, after all, to miss the loud Irish accent that tends to drown everyone else out around him.
Another thing that others tend to admire about Ciaran is the boldness that he possesses. He is the type that tends to have little to no shame. Like most Gryffindors, he really doesn’t have the fear of doing something risky if given the chance. And well, he likes to take the chance quite often. He has been known to enjoy doing certain things just for the thrill of it. In addition to that sort of boldness, he has also been bold with his speech. He is the type that isn’t afraid to tell people exactly what is on his mind--which can definitely be dangerous at times.
He does have a certain level of arrogance about him. He, thankfully, isn’t on the level of horrible that his father was. This is perhaps due to the fact that he only spends a designated amount of time with him now. But, still, he can be a bit boastful from time to time. He knows his talents and doesn’t really hesitate to talk about them to anyone that will listen.
He is hot-tempered. Another lovely trait that was inherited from his father. It is something that has definitely gotten him in trouble--especially in Quidditch. He has often had to remember to level his temper in the middle of games. Especially when it might look like their team is going towards the losing side. He is extremely competitive. Often, it has been commented that maybe he would’ve made a better Beater to get out some of that aggression.
He’s a pretty decent friend despite his flaws. He is the kind of friend that will be there for you until the very end. Ciaran is also the first person that is going to stand up for his friends if they have been wronged or if they are being picked on. There’s no question about that. Honestly, there is nothing more important to him than his friends especially given things at home can be a little shitty--especially his relationship with his father. So, he is going to do whatever he can to stick by their side.
