In the before times, back when I first started this, I had planned for Häärijä to be hiding in the vents, a menace at the lab. That didn't end up working out that way, but here we are!

I made a little back story behind this scene, that I'll likely never put anywhere.
Jere was the only successful observer for Häärijä. Any other lab tech or scientist put in front of him got a blank stare back, but Jere got him to explore, to play.
The reason Häärijä broke out that day is very silly. Jere had gone on a two week vacation and Häärijä didn't really have any concept of what that meant, just that his favorite person was gone for two weeks. He was gone, he needed to be not gone. Häärija got a bit overwhelmed when Jere finally came back.

I always try to describe characters not as how they look, but how it feels like to look at them. We have no idea what colour his hair or eyes are or what he's wearing - but we know that he is a three-dimensional person with a life and a history and that something has changed inside Bojan.
Sometimes OCs we'll never see again are the wisest of all.
Because in about twenty minutes he'll be arriving deep inside- *gunshots*
Again, not what he looks like but how it feels to look at him. And a nod to his own history.
Ditto when describing music, I'll very early state a song or a band (because any song will mean different things to different readers) but the general vibe, how it feels to listen to it.

Before I had any idea what Bojans living situation was, or who Ruby belonged to! Don't regret giving Bojan a (sausage!) dog for fic purposes though, she works great here. Would I have had Bojan living with Martin, or with Kris? Probably not.

I LOVE this set up to the next chapter so much! We all think Bojan is gonna have a load of meaningless sex with this OC to distract himself from Jere! (Tbh it was kinda hard not to write that. Sex with the wrong person while yearning for someone else is one of my favourite concepts)
