My daughter the cannibal...
Guys, I gotta tell you a story… Today I started 7lbs of pork shoulder in the crock pot before I left for work for pulled pork sandwiches. When I came home, I sat down to clean and pull it for dinner. My 5 year old daughter was talking to me and we were both snacking on little bits of greasy, tender pork and she told me how yummy it was and that she loves pork. She started talking about how it was a pig and we discussed which meats come from which animals, and that it’s good for you. Pretty usual. Then, it got interesting, and she hit me with this:
A: “Do people have meat?”
A: “Do people have meat? Like animals?”
Me, hoping she isn’t going where I think she is going: “What do you mean?”
A: “Do people eat people meat?”
Me, realizing I can’t explain cannibalism to a 5 year old, and I’m going to have to lie: “No. People don’t eat people meat. Only animal meat.”
A: “Oh, ok. But could they?”
Me, hoping I haven’t spawned a Hannibal Lecter: “No. No, they couldn’t. It would make them very, very sick. People only eat animal meat.”
A, thinking about it: “Oh… Ok. Animal meat is good. Sooo good! And good for you!” -steals another piece of pork-
Me: “Yep, that’s right. Why don’t you go tell Daddy about it.”
A: “Ok!” -runs into the other room and cheerfully yells- “Daddy! People don’t eat people meat, only animal meat!”
