After dealing with a particularly annoying attorney, Kaz wanted nothing more than to go home and relax. When he heard the sound of sirens and people shouting, he nearly kept on walking. Unfortunately, whatever was happening caused a big enough commotion that a small crowd had formed and blocked his path.
Pushing his way to to the center, Police had been setting up a barricade around what looked to be a car accident. In the middle of the road a white SUV sat totaled, the entire front of it smashed in like it had driven straight into a brick wall. Strangely, there weren’t any other vehicle or building around that appeared to be damaged. The drivers side door was open, where a person lay draped halfway out onto the pavement, obviously injured severely, yet no paramedics or officers would approach.
It doesn’t take long to see why, there’s about four or five bodies of different emergency responders sprawled out around the site. Standing on top of the car is another person, no doubt the one responsible for the whole mess. Probably some attention seeking, wannabe supervillain, Kaz scoffed internally. What a pain.
He glanced down at his hand, the golden lion ring sparkling in the sunlight. None of the city’s typical heroes had shown up yet… why not give his new abilities a real-world trial? He manipulated the light around him, making himself invisible to everyone else, sneaking past the officers and their barricade, walking straight towards the figure on top of the car.
As he approaches the figure, something drops from the sky, burning as it enters the atmosphere.
It stops midair, as another figure holding an umbrella floats down. They had on a fluffy dress, and had a weirdly caprine face.
“Don’t worry everyone! Stay calm and back away, okay?”
Cinnie calls out as he closes his umbrella, diving towards the figure.
Soon the villain was helplessly ensnared in a pink ribbon that he pulled from the bell around his neck. The guardian tugs them to the ground, nodding in a proud of himself way.
“Hey! Can we get someone with medical expertise here? It should be safe to breathe now!”
Kaz watches with mild annoyance as this new hero appears and instantly captures the villain. Show off.
Still determined to get his time in the spotlight and test out his abilities he makes himself visible and walks up to the injured person.
He carefully lifts them up and out of the vehicle, placing them down on the pavement. He gently places his fingers over their pulse, feeling it very faintly. From his fingertips golden light wraps around their ankles victims body, slowly closing up all of their wounds. By the time paramedics make it, they’ve regained consciousness, blinking at Kaz with a dazed, confused expression.
Cinnie hops down, looking to Kaz with a smile.
“Golly! I’ve never seen that before!”
The teen hero wags his tail like a puppy, staring up at Kaz like he was the real hero there.
“You’re pretty dang good at saving people!”
He stomps his hooves on the ground, trying to stand up taller compared to the man. Extending a hand, he makes a “serious” and “professional” expression.
“Cinnie Monroe, sir!”
He chuckled at the teen’s eager greeting. He reminded him a little bit of Voss, so he relaxed slightly. He was still a bit peeved about them stealing half the act though.
“You as well.” He replied, keeping the bitterness out of his tone. He shook the others hand, scoffing slightly at his pun name. “Kazimir.”
Before they could exchange any more words, dozen of onlookers and news crews bombarded them, shoving cameras in their faces and asking a million questions at once.
“baaaAAAH-“
Cinnie bleats and stutters, tugging on his lamb-like ears as the crowd presses in further.
“Hi- I’m uh-“
The bell around his neck rings by its own accord, him scrambling back into a more confident position.
“Cinnie Monroe, champion of the wishing bell!”
Kaz takes well to the attention, already used to being a semi-public figure. He answers the questions he likes and ignores the ones he doesn’t until he’s had enough.
“We should go talk to police and give them a statement.” He says, looking to Cinnie as if to give him an out, looking curiously at the bell around his neck. “Plus we should also check to make sure no one else is injured.”
“Yeah! That!! Stay safe everyone!”
He nods along with Kazimir. The magical girl waves to the crowd one last time before turning around with a sigh of relief.
“Uhhh- where do we go to give a statement? I usually- uh- just fight the monsters.”
“Well the criminal will have to be processed and prosecuted.” Kaz states.
Honestly Kaz wasn’t quite sure what he was supposed to do. He usually wasn’t around at the actual crime scenes, his job didn’t require much field work, if any at all. But he’d worked with law enforcement long enough to know they’d want something. Plus the officers not controlling the crowd and setting up crime scene tape were already making their way towards them.
Of course he was familiar with a good amount of them, which would make this real interesting.
“Kazimir? And uh… y-you… what the hell just happened?” An officer stood in front of them dumbfounded. “Where did you… did you come from fucking space?”
The caprine kid shakes his head, readjusting his hooves shyly.
“Uh- no- I just tend to end up transported a bit too high up-“
He holds his hands in his lap with a bleat.
“The guy on top of the car was manipulating air somehow, so I tried to get him under control before he could get anyone else!”
“Oh… well uh… thank you.” The officer smiles at him awkwardly before giving Kaz a look that says ‘we’re talking about this later’ and walking away.
“Where are you from then? You look pretty recognizable, I’m surprised I haven’t heard of any hero fitting your description before.”
He lets out a bleat-y laugh, playing with his ears.
“Not around here, usually I’m more tuned in on monsters and demonic spirits and uhhh-“
Cinnie shakes his head dismissively. There was no good way to explain you’re not from a universe.
“I don’t really have a hometown, I hole away in a pocket world when I’m not on the job.”
Kaz just stared at them for a moment. It was another situation where he probably wouldn’t have believed it a few months ago, but now, after getting this ring and getting his powers anything seemed possible.
“Oh… strangely that makes sense to me…”
He looks down at his ring. Perhaps it was otherworldly? That still didn’t answer most of the questions he had about it.
“I mean- I could show you if you’d like, sir! It’s pretty boring, just where I sleep.”
*He looks at the man’s ring as well.*
“You use an artifact too, right?”
“No I’m alright…” he doesn’t really want to test out traveling to pocket dimensions. Seems a bit too risky.
He nods. “Yes, I’m guessing yours is the bell?”
“Uhuh! I’m its champion.”
He poses proudly.
“I bet yours is that ring, that’s why the wishing bell is sensing you.”
“Something like that…” He says, examining his ring again. “I received it anomalously. I have no idea where it came from.” Maybe this person knew something that could help Kaz figure out who was watching him.
“It probably chose you!”
Cinnie points out the slight glow to the ring.
“If I had to guess, the ring itself found a reason to like you!”
He holds his bell up to the light, the gold glowing in a similar way.
“Artifacts tend to pick someone they like.”
