One of the early flowering climbing roses is Rosa ‘Maigold’ with reddish buds opening to large, fragrant, semi-double, coppery-yellow flowers. This cultivar has very thorny, strong climbing stems with a major show of flowers in spring followed by occasional flowers later in the summer. It was introduced in 1953.
