that scene where mei speaks to a younger ming utterly destroyed me, and one thing that i really like about it is the attention to detail in the animation:

like, mei herself is on the verge of tears. finding out that her mom went through all the same things and felt the same way she did as a teenager must have been hard for her. so to see her then give ming the courage to get back up and keep going? that was beautiful

The context is that Mei drew some a little suggestive pictures because she is a young teenager and the super strict and overly protective mom saw them and thought the guy did something to her.

She wasn't even interested in the guy, but the anime boy drawings she made just inspired by him.

Idk Turning Red DIDNT make me cringe bc I remember being that girl. Not in the whole 90s sense(bc I’m a 03 baby) but I was that loud weird girl. Who doodled on all her homework and test. Who tried to strive for the perfect 100% grade. The one who’s mom caught her reading fanfic. The one who yelled out phrases akind to AWOGA. Yeah it’s cringy now but back then that was some of my happiest moments! My friends and I didn’t care what people thought, all we cared is that we were having fun and had each other’s back. I think Turning Red did a really good job of portraying that!
