Circle of Ancestral Magic Stands in Solidarity with People of Color
Circle of Ancestral Magic (CAM) is a small coven local to the Bay Area community. In light of the recent political events and the ongoing lack of JUSTICE in response to the systematic killing of multiple unarmed Black people and disparities in the legal system for people of color, we feel it is time for those within the Pagan community to publicly and clearly align on the side of equity, justice and love for marginalized populations.
Eric Garner, Michael Brown and Tamir Rice are only a few examples that we know of, in the recent and ongoing horrific crimes against unarmed Black people in the United States by law enforcement; and with no criminal consequences. The flawed criminal ‘justice’ system is sending a clear statement of bias, that the Pagan community and all people of conscious can not ignore. These men join the long list of injustices and deaths that have become victims of a system that is flawed and institutionally racist against people of color in this country. The lack of indictment for these crimes shows an age old pattern of discrimination and dismissal of the importance of Black lives in the larger culture of this country.
Circle of Ancestral Magic believes in the inherent quality of all people, that the sanctity of life can not be measured and that all people deserve the right to justice, truth, love and equity. We align with the message that #BlackLivesMatter, a message that is often lost in the fight for justice in the larger scale social justice discussions, and in general society.
As it is a part of the mission of this coven to be socially aware Witches that work magic for Social Justice and the greater good of all people, especially those whose voices are often ignored; we are taking this moment, this time, this place to take a public stand and say that we believe that #blacklivesmatter and that it is long past time for these oppressions to end. We will not tolerate or condone anything less.
We are committed to the continuous fight for equity for all people, especially those of marginalized and historically oppressed groups, and will continue to speak up, speak out, work magic, engage in community action and fight for justice.
We say this most of all to the people most affected by these atrocities. We see you. We hear you. We value you, and honor your lived experiences. And we will fight for you, for ourselves and for future generations, in the hope that one day we will live in a society where no one will have to worry if their child, husband, father, daughter will not come home due to violence based on the color of their skin. That one day black and brown people in our society are not targeted and singled out by law enforcement as victims of mass incarceration and the prison industrial complex. That Black and Brown people are given messages of their worth in society, that we lift people up instead of reinforcing stereotypes of inherent criminality, lack of worth, and distorted beauty.
