The Satan Pit novelization has one singular scene from the Doctor's POV and it nearly caused my early demise

Words cannot describe how much I want the Martin DuBois/Annie Shapiro scene to be in the movie.

It adds nothing to the plot but I can just feel the "Jesus Christ please shut up." desperately echoing from Ryland Grace's thoughts and it's just so funny, my lord

My high school friend who read PHM before the movie came out told me that he based Grace's voice off of our eighth grade history teacher. After reading the book myself, I told him that he's so right. I get that exact same "cool teacher" vibe. He hanged out with students, he tried very hard to be funny, and he hanged my Christmas lantern gift to him on his apartment door.

But then I saw some post about the timeline set for the story and holy crap we were almost the same grade that Grace taught in the timeline (I've seen differences about which grade he actually teaches in various fics but we were definitely in middle school).

It hits hard.

Nine days before the launch, just before the explosion, Grace was thinking about his children and missing them. Now it feels so personally it's making me sick.

This story is truly amazing.

So before finishing the PHM book I've seen more than one post quoting the scene where Grace and Rocky reunite after the taumoeba outbreak saying how emotional and moving that was. I was like sure that's some great reunion, but isn't "Grace you are here question?" the most expected dialogue?

I hadn't understand its impact because I hadn't read about Grace turning around choosing death for himself like there had been no other choice, hadn't followed Grace searching 5 degree by 5 degree for a reflected light signaling the position of Blip A, had't feel the uncertainty when Grace jumps from the Hail Mary into the absolute nothingness in his EVA suit with only his tether to reach Rocky's ship not knowing if Rocky was still alive.

And so when Rocky's voice cuts through the silence I cried.

I cannot keep reading PHM fics because Rocky's way of talking (while super adorable) will be the downfall of my english like my entire academic environment is english, I got a 5 in AP lit back in high school, but I just want to say "I dumb, this bad bad bad"
