📚 diss work 4.25.26
feeling very “this is the first day of my life” at the moment. today is the day i start working on my dissertation, rather than my prospectus or working-on-preparing-to-work on my dissertation.
probably also the last hot coffee of the season. it’s cool and rainy, but not so cold that i can’t sit outside and listen to the rain on the awning.

feeling like an academic victim at this point of the semester :’))
Yellow and brown, my favourite color combo at the moment 🐝🍯
March 2026
Got to spend some time outside with my partner yesterday! I really wanted to enjoy the early blooming trees 🌸
Also got to enjoy a tea sesh with a wonderful GABA--a running favorite

- Did observation, wrote field note
March 2026
Its a hippie speedball at 7pm kind of day.
Was actually fairly productive today, all things considered. Tracking my focused work time has been helping a lot... I end up actually focusing, who knew! lol
Just a few more weeks until summer... that much unstructured time is sounding daunting at the moment...
Total focus time: 5 h 3 m
Reading Black Reconstruction: 2 h 25 m
Digital ethnography fieldnotes: 1 h 24 m
Research project: 1 h
March 2026
Trying to find time to do readings im actually interested in. Its been such a busy semester but so much of the work is just... bland. Bought a bunch of tea to indulge myself.
Here i am drinking Floating Leaves Wild Purple Leaf Red Oolong... really makes me nerd out. Very delicious tea... and not camellia sinensis...Camellia formosensis! Super cool.
February 2026
My tea ware has gotten an upgrade!!! I've been wanting a glass fairness cup so badly and I'm just in love with this one. And, the lavender gaiwan is 90 mL, which is nice for solo sessions.
Today I'm drinking Floating Leaves Alishan Black... because I ordered more without realizing I had an unopened pack, whoops !
Today's goals:
🔲Finish Book 2 of Suicide
🔲Finish Book 3 of Suicide
🔲Draft Suicide presentation notes
one of the biggest things I can advocate for (in academia, but also just in life) is to build credibility with yourself. It’s easy to fall into the habit of thinking of yourself as someone who does things last minute or who struggles to start tasks. people will tell you that you just need to build different habits, but I know for me at least the idea of ‘habit’ is sort of abstract and dehumanizing. Credibility is more like ‘I’ve done this before, so I know I can do it, and more importantly I trust myself to do it’. you set an assignment goal for the day and you meet it, and then you feel stronger setting one the next day. You establish a relationship with yourself that’s built on confidence and trust. That in turn starts to erode the barrier of insecurity and perfectionism and makes it easier to start and finish tasks. reframing the narrative as a process of building credibility makes it easier to celebrate each step and recognize how strong your relationship with yourself can become
January 2026
Phew... week 2 was rough! We're snowed in, I'm just getting over an illness, my partner is just coming down with it, and classes are ramping up. As much as I wanted to rest this week and weekend, that wasn't much of an option. So today is going to be me, my latte, and Marx trying to escape the cold (illness) and cold (weather)!
January 2026
Break is officially over :( but I'm hopeful that this semester will be less painful. Though I have more responsibilities, I also have a lot more structure and clarity which makes a world of difference. The first semester kind of felt like trial by fire.
Wish me luck this spring 😁
24/08/25 || the weather is getting colder. im enjoying a quiet weekend, learning some french.
rainy day study session
November 2025
Started my day with two(!!!) tea sessions and Bruno Latour, but somehow ended up in a statistics trance for almost 6 hours..!
First session was a secret garden Alishan oolong, the second was a GABA oolong! Both from Floating Leaves 🍃🍵
🕊️ cozychallenge :)
Coffee shop Saturday. Paying for this delectable half-sweet PSL (and parking downtown *grumble grumble*) is the ADHD tax for getting the rest of these undergrad essays graded.
At least it’s a beautiful day out. :) Sometimes even grunt work doesn’t seem too bad. :P
