Were you scared before starting school? Surg tech shit really interests me and I’ve been accepted into a program I’m just nervous I’m going to find out I have a weak stomach once I get into the OR
Yes I was nervous. I still get nervous and I’ve been working for a year and a half now. It’s natural! And there is only way to find out if you have a weak stomach or not I guess 🤷🏼♂️😂
Certified Surgical Tech
Well it’s official. I have finally graduated and passed my board exam to become a certified surgical tech. I have had a job secured since about 2 weeks before graduation and I start that next week. It is still surreal that I’m finally done. Still feel like I have so much to learn and see which makes me nervous but can’t wait to become a better tech everyday.
Here’s a pretty typical back table and mayo stand set up from one of my favorite rooms. The ENT room. Most ENT surgeries have the same basic set up which helps a lot.
Internships
Well this is our last week of class/clinicals and than we start internships next week. Exciting to be done with course work and only have to focus on surgery and the board exam. Definitely starting to feel a lot more comfortable in the OR but still have a lot of surgeries I haven’t seen or became too familiar with yet. But 40 hour a week internships should help with that a lot!
Are you currently in clinical? Or still in school?
Both. We still have class one day a week for 5 hours with a test once a week as well. And than two 12 hour clinical rotations in the hospital. That is for the first half of our last semester but than the second half we do a 6 week 40 hour a week internship.
New Students!
We just helped our professors out today with the interviews for the new incoming surgical tech students! It was lots of fun and you could see how nervous most of them were. Our program only has 12 spots so not quite everyone can make it in. One of the girls remembers seeing me during her job shadow in the OR as well! Good luck to all of them.

Why do I always feel so bad for Alex Karev. He’s always such a dick but you can’t help but relate and feel bad for him. 😅
Haven’t been on here in awhile.
Anyways, I start my very first clinical rotations this week and I have mixed feelings. From being excited to nervous to even a little scared. I’m sure everything will be fine though. Wish me luck!

If anyone is interested in being a surgical tech or anything else in the medical field feel free to ask any questions through messaging me or sending an ask. I did a lot of shadowing in different departments around the hospital such as the radiology department as well. I was trying to see where I felt I would like it most. The medical field is definitely intimidating to get into in my opinion so feel free to ask anything you want!
First Semester
I’m almost done with my first semester of the surgical tech program. It’s been really fun and sort of stressful. Not really the course load or class work is stressing me though. Just the thought of next semester when we will actually be in the hospital. I’m just nervous I won’t be prepared enough for some reason. I know I’ll be fine but it still stresses me out.
