Visual Basic.
I've put a band together while I'm in Shanghai and it's called Visual Basic. No plans to release any music as yet but we are playing some shows. The first one is at the Shanghai Apple Store this Thursday, 5th of September.
亲爱的上海的朋友们,我最近新成立了一个乐队-Visual Basic,最近我们将在南京东路的 Apple Store 零售店进行第一场现场表演,时间是2013年9月5日(星期四) 晚上7点, 欢迎大家过来听!

Yuyuan Erdos Plaza - 2013
Since my last post I've been asked quite a few questions about what I'll be doing next but perhaps the most important one that wasn't asked is where. The answer, at least for the short-term, is Shanghai.
Ever since I visited Shanghai for a few days in 2010 I've been desperate to come back for longer and this summer seemed like a pretty good opportunity. I got here last week, slightly unprepared for the current 41˚C heat-wave and I'll be staying until October.
I've been writing a lot of music over the last few months and it made sense to go away for a while and focus on putting it together into something more like an album and potentially begin performing some of it live for the first time. For many reasons that will hopefully become more clear later, China felt like a good place to start.
Just before I left London though I did a short studio session to properly record my current favourite demo and I cannot wait to play everyone the results. Before I do however, I've got to make a few decisions since I don't currently have a manager, a label or for now, even a legal way of accessing Facebook, Twitter or Youtube. Not sure why but The Great Firewall of China is doesn't seem to care about Tumblr.
In the mean time if anyone wants to do karaoke with me in Shanghai, just drop me a line.

A Motorcade Of Kids All Headed To A Party.
The first thing to say is that the next Spector album is taking shape and I think it's going to be very special. I've been involved in the song-writing process and should be contributing to the artwork as well - however the sad news is that I'm taking a break from playing live and recording with Spector which means that really I'm no longer an 'official' member. I guess the natural assumption is that something bad must have happened or we've fallen out, but that's not the case. Jed, Tom, Danny and Fred are my best friends and it's difficult to imagine that we won't be doing things together again in the future. For now though it's just time to do some music by myself, which I will hopefully be sharing more fully later this year. I'd like to thank everyone that came to see Spector play over the last couple of years, it's been an incredible experience to meet so many people in so many places and it's been more fun that I could have possibly imagined when we started out. It might sound cheesy but what I enjoyed most about being in Spector was spending so much time with people I really care about, searching for romance in a world where it seems increasingly hard to find. I know there's always been a pretty wide range of opinions about us and our music but this feels like a good opportunity to say that, for me, everything we did together was the result of a unique and really quite weird mix of ideas and personalities underpinned by real and unashamed honesty. It sometimes feels like music and musicians are put into categories quicker than ever before – when there's a new band to listen to every day perhaps this isn't all that surprising. When I think about the music that I love though, there's really only handful of musicians and bands that I end up truly caring about and they're always the ones who's qualities are hardest to precisely define. I say this now only as a fan, but Spector will always be one of those bands. C x

This is the track I made on the mixtape for 'Auto Couture'.
It's called 'Set You (Lambo Mix)' and you should listen to it in a sports car.
Auto Couture:
I was recently asked to put forward a track for a mixtape as part of an art show in London called 'Auto Couture' that took place in an actual car showroom. The show opened last weekend and turned out really well, featuring several really great artists and a Bentley GT you could sit in to listen to the music. There was also an £8,000 book about the history of Formula 1 that had it's own guard.
The track I submitted was made especially for listening to while inside a Lamborghini but any high-end sports car with a good sound system will do.
