Twinology

The project develops 4 fonts and a visual language that twins don’t currently have.

Purple is the colour best suited to represent twins; because red and blue, both primary colours, depend on each other to form it. Much like Twins, one isn’t a twin without the other. Yellow and purple have the most interesting connection, so this relationship works to explain the twin connection. There is almost always a dominant twin, and when there isn’t they are competitive. Often they are helplessly dependent on each other, but if not, are they estranged?

Losing it. Lost it. Loser.

*ISTD Submission 2019

ISTD brief: Lost

The outcome: I have written a book entirely about ‘Losing it’ on the tennis court. The book investigates what happens when a person loses it, why players lose it, and how to control their emotions so they keep it together. The book also looks at famous moment that professional players lost it. Asks why? And discovers what happened next.

The book uses a variety of techniques in the printing process, including; Litho, Riso and screenprinting. Embroidery and sewing is also used on the cover. These individual elements combine the energy and emotion of the sport into the books tactile pages.

Home Sweet Home

*RSPB & Strong Island Co. Commended Response

The brief: to create an A2 positive poster to celebrate Langstone Harbour and the wildlife that lives there.

The outcome: focused on 7 of the birds that call Langstone Harbour, a home. The poster uses a paper cutting technique to reflect the natural and unique nature of the area. The technique itself relates to the patient hobby of twitching. 

This poster was shown as part of an exhibition at the University of Portsmouth from March 2017.

Next: I’m hoping to create a Bird Spotters Bingo. I intend to create some of the birds out of acrylic and photograph them at the area, as if it was a real event.

La Befana’s Broomstick

*YCN Submission 2016/2017

The brief: to create a small, unique Christmas gift that could be easily distributed. The solution had to celebrate the Fedrigoni paper range, Constellation. 

The outcome: I wrote the story of La Befana’s broomstick, a prequel to the story of La Befana. At the back of the pack, there is a net of her flying vehicle. Whilst the recipients build their broomstick, the Braille numbering system on the net encourages the audience to appreciate the textures of the paper and to inspire their inner child.

JUX

The brief: to create our own design agency, we came up with JUX.

The outcome: JUX, as the name suggest was about juxtaposition. Our aim was to excite our audience with the techniques that we used to mark our identity.

In order to showcase our design identity, our deliverables included: a lookbook with a die cut dust jacket, embossed business cards, letterhead, functioning website, box with screen printed gloss as well as an online social media presence. 

I was personally responsible for the box and the logo design and I assisted on the lookbook. Although we worked as a team to ensure that our pieces were consistent.

The Black Cat

The brief: To re-design ‘The Black Cat’, a dark and twisted story written by Edgar Allan Poe in 1843.

The outcome: This book typographically illustrates the narrative of the story with experimental typography. The dust jacket has been printed on a matte black paper with a gloss medium screen printed title.

Stay Calm

The brief: to respond to an ethical issue that I felt passionate about. 

The outcome: Stay Calm. Parents often forget how critically important it is to stay calm, when parenting. Research found that children are more likely to respond to parents who act as positive role models. This pack promotes calm, rational behaviour with a simple rewards system for both parents, and their small children. 

Some of the assets in this pack are designed to be used around the home, for the parents and the children to encourage calm behaviour by the whole family.
