The nest has hatched and I now have two delightful daughters. I am so happy and so proud that they have hatched in pretty good health. I would have dreaded it had they not hatched in anything less.
The elder of the two, Joikila, especially shows some promise.
~Jodijo, Fourth Heir to the House of Thistles
House of Thorns:
I've had two daughters. They aren't blessed like me. They are surely blessed, just not blessed in the same way that I have been.
I only hope that they cannot disappoint the Gladekeeper's will. The pressure for me to be the best is crushing. It all is depending on me. What sort of dragon could I be if I fail at this despite the Gladekeeper's own Blessing.
~Kalvese The Blessed, Fourth Heir to the House of Thistles.
I have nested and there are two eggs. It’s not a bad number, the two hatchlings will likely grow close to each other. I hope it does not come as a disappointment if one gets selected over the other, that is the nature of how my line rules.
If it is any consolation, at the very least the figurative crown we wear shouldn’t bee to heavy for them. Hopefully with each coming generation things should get easier and better for them. That’s all any dragon could hope for, a brighter future.
~Jodijo, Fourth Heir to the House of Thistles
House of Thorns:
I have nested with the most suitable and adequate mate that could be found. Two eggs are a fine number, neither every nest nor every dragon will come to bear a full five. It is interesting, I can’t bring myself to care more about this then I should. I am a blessing unto our clan. A meager and small blessing perhaps, but a blessing nonetheless.
I should hope that this is good. I hope that I can live up to the legacy of the leaders before me, to the expectations I imagine the Gladekeeper herself has of me. After all, everything must weigh upon my decisions, my choices. I hope this meager nest is not a sign of an approaching ill fate for this clan. Everybody before me has worked so hard to get so far. I must not mess it up now. Not that I would, anyways. I am blessed by the Gladekeeper. Surely that must account for something.
~Kalvese The Blessed, Fourth Heirto the House of Thistles.
My heir has grown and come of age to inherit the clan, and I hope he will grow and prosper.
I am so proud of Jodijo. He is bright and keen and I can see great things in our clan’s future from him. While the clan is meager, we are driven and devout. He will take things in a good direction, and I have faith in things to go well.
~Zanril The Blissful, Third Heir to the House of Thistles.
House of Thorns:
I have done everything right, and the Gladkeeper herself honors this by giving this clan a truly blessed heir to inherit this. I have worked so hard, and surely, with this blessing, what I have worked for must be correct.Â
The clan will be glorious, and Kalvese will lead it into prosperity.
~Calathea The Paragon, Third Heir to the House of Thorns
We are doing okay. Three promising children have emerged from their nests, with the Ridgeback being the one that seems most magically inclined of the three, as well as being the physically strongest of them.Â
Already I can see things becoming more prosperous in the future. Surely it must be a sign.
~Zanril, Third Heir to the House of Thistles.
House of Thorns: Entry Eleven
We are truly blessed and Prosperous. The eldest hatchling shows this and his endless potential through his eyes alone. We will prosper, and it will be glorious.Â
~Calathea, Third Heir to the House of Thorns.
Housekeeping: Mild adjustment to the rules. Just that Heirs with Primal eyes may go into the hibernal den rather than face exaltion. Didn’t give it too much thought when writing the rules, but now that I’ve bred a dragon with primal eyes (and my first one nonetheless), I’ve decided maybe I should be a bit more flexible with that rule with regards to rarer eye types.
That being said, getting a primal hatchling as an heir really put the Thorns ahead of the Thistles. It’s a bummer because they aren’t a triple-gened guy like the third hatchling of that nest, but hopefully I will be able to at least have the final dragons be triple-gened.
It is a modest nest, but I don’t doubt the potential that any of these three have. They must certainly, as I would hope that we are doing right by our parents and lineage by continuing to pursue magical talent throughout our endeavors while leading a sizeable clan by ourselves.
I have done nothing for the best and I have proven to at least be talented enough to have my parents’ time. I hope that these three will not need the same sort of expectation, as we will succeed.
~Zanril, Third Heir to the House of Thistles.
House of Thorns: Entry Ten
I think the Gladekeeper smiles upon me and my prosperous clan.
Three eggs. At least one more than my own nest. I’m quite happy that they will come to grow in a prosperous clan and will not have to deal with any issues, like competing for the title of heir. Still, only good things can come from the hard work and the prosperity my clan has in it’s name.
My heir has come of age, and I couldn’t be more proud.
He has grown into his powers and into his role with surprising ease. He seems competent enough to lead, and quite eager to do so. He’s got many great ideas to help our clan truly prosper. All in all, of the two children he’s taken to it like a fish would to water. I know that when I am gone, the house and the clan will be in great claws.
~Kelsul the Reliable, Second Heir to the House of Thistles
House of Thorns: Entry Nine
My heir has come of age, and and it is quite the joyous occasion.
She is a bit soft-spoken, like me, but she is quite charming and kind. I can see her becoming a great leader in the future, and fit to be my heir. She is sharp, and her skills with magic far outside those of her sibling. I hope it does not hurt her, but I would think her skills and general disposition make her the better leader of the two. In any event, I can see her uplifting the house and the clan once I’m gone.
~Yeni the Quiet, Second Heir to the House of Thorns
Housekeeping: The legacy is still quite close at this point in time, with there not being a particular house that’s managing to pull ahead. If it weren’t for the fact that I simply don’t have the lair space for it, I might consider pushing it out to twenty generations rather than ten. I similarly don’t really have the time between other things i’m planning to do as well as real-life obligations.
Still, the scores are currently at a net 79 point draw. The thorns got 32 points in their nest, but with how well the thistles have been doing in general, 27 points was enough to get a draw.
My nest has hatched. I hope that they have potential to make up for the fact that there's only two of them.
The eldest of the two, Zanril, shows the most promise of the pair. His magic is very strong, and I think with proper training, it would grow stronger than mine, or perhaps even my predecessor's predecessor. It has been most helpful that the clan the house runs has been doing well enough to hire somebody to appraise their magical ability for sure.
Whatever the case may be, I am proud of my two sons.
~Kelsul, Second Heir of the house of Thistles
House of Thorns: Entry Eight
After tending to the nest, the two eggs have finally hatched.
After tending to the nest, the two eggs have finally hatched.
Two delightful girls, both showing great magical potential as well as the energy and quick-wittedness that may come to serve them well in the future, regardless of what may happen. Calathea, the younger of the two, shows much more promise for this than her older sister, but nonetheless I shall help the two with their magic when the time comes. It's especially nice that our house's clan managed to accrue the resources to get someone to properly appraise their magical potential.
Whatever may happen, I know that these two daughters of mine show promise.
~Yeni, Second Heir of the house of Thorns
House keeping: Sorry for the slightly late update. The 2nd update will come later this week. School gets busy and all of that.
Things have been going well with regards to our clan of sorts. It grows stronger and better by the day. It is truly a shame that my parents decided to depart when they did, and perhaps things could have gone much worse had the house head not been helping me from the sidelines.
In any event, I have a nest to tend to. Not nearly as large as either mine or my parent's nests, but I hope these two show promise.
~Kelsul, Second Heir of the house of Thistles
House of Thorns: Entry Seven
Things have been going as smoothly as they could for our clan. It was a smidge rough for a time, but things can only improve from here. I certainly wished my parents didn't leave when they did, but there isn't much to do about that besides stepping up and claiming my responsibilities. It could have been completely worse without the continued help from the house head on the sidelines.
In any event, I have a nest to tend to. It's perhaps a bit small, being only two eggs, but I am more than optimistic that the future will be bright and promising for them.
~Yeni, Second Heir of the house of Thorns
Housekeeping: Regarding lair tabs, I do think That i'll keep the legacy challenge delegated to the last page of my main lair tab rather than create an entire separate tab solely for this purpose.
That being said, I will be delegating the progen pair for the challenge to the hibernal den for the time being. They'll come out at the end of the challenge, but in terms of story they'll still be present at the background.
My heir has finally come of age, and has grown quite well into his powers.
He’s bright and charming, traits I only hope will serve him well in the future. His kindness is also a great trait for a promising leader. Out of all of my children, it seems the most like he is the one who will go places, even if that might mean staying and leading my clan after I am gone. The future looks as bright as ever for my clan.
~Lugila the Gifted, First Heir of the house of Thistles
House of Thorns:
My heir has finally come of age, and I would think that her aptitude has bloomed, much like a delicate flower.
She shows a great deal of strength (of magical aptitude, of character, and general physique) and I think that of the hatchlings she is the one who shows the most promise to take over leadership once I depart. I do not think I will be here forever, and I would hope that once I am gone she will be able to handle the clan as well as I have. Things have been very plentiful for us, and I can see it continuing if not getting better in the future.
~Aldyth the Competent, First Heir to the House of Thorns.
My nest has hatched! all four of the eggs have hatched and the hatchlings all show an affinity for magic.
Of the hatchlings, I’ve noticed that some of them take closer to my own looks than that of my partner. Still, only time will tell if any of these hatchlings will show any aptitude for being able to take up the mantle of leadership after I am gone. I know my time is not going to be infinite. Here’s to hoping that of all of these promising children, one will be up for the task. At the very least, under my care, the clan has grown to be quite prosperous.
Already, one of them shows great promise for this task.
~Lugila, First Heir of the House of Thistles.
House of Thorns: Entry Five
My hatchlings have emerged from their shells.
It is not as large of a nest as the one I had grown up in, but I can tell that these three will be a promising bunch, no matter where they end up in adulthood. I would hope that magical talent aside, any one of them would be willing to help with leading the clan in the distant future. The eldest already shows a bit of aptitude towards this.Â
I hope that when they all grow up, they’ll be as happy and as prosperous as my clan has been.
~Aldyth, First Heir of the House of Thorns
Housekeeping: While the Thistles were not leading after the results of the 2nd generation nest, the 3rd generation nest as swung them back into favor. Compared to the meek 18 points after the first nest, the second one boasted 34 points, which puts the net point amount for the Thistles at 52.
This isn't a wide lead however, as the Thorns, despite having a smaller nest, got 23 points, being one point smaller than the previous generation's nest. This gives the thistles a net point amount of 47. At this point in time it could definitely swing in either house's favor.
The next heir for the Thistles is Kelsul, who is quite bright looking. The next heir for the Thorns is Yeni, who's look honestly works, being a little off from a xxy. It's kinda funny given how Aldyth is a xyy.
The House of Thistles and it's clan has been prosperous as long as I have been leading it. It helps that things have been quite bountiful as of late. The crops are growing and our finances have been doing much better than that of my predecessor. It is kind that she still sticks around, after my father and my siblings have taken their leave. Mother still remains, but she has stepped down to help manage things without having too much attention drawn towards herself.
I now have a nest to attend to. I hope the future remains bright for this next generation.
~Lugila, of the House of Thistles.
House of Thorns:Â Entry Four
The House of Thorns and it's clan has truly been prosperous during my time as leader. The crops are growing and our finances have been doing much better than that of my predecessor. It is kind that he remains, even after my mother and siblings have left to pursue their own paths. He has stepped down from position of leader and passed it on to me, and I can only hope that I can make him proud. It is kind of him to stay and help manage things without having the attention fall to him. To have him guide me still is better than to leave me to figure it all out by myself.
I now have a nest to attend to. I hope the future remains bright for this next generation.
My heir has come of age. I've gifted her a Pendant in order to symbolize a bond between me and her. I believe she is now old enough to lead my rag-tag group of dragons. I'm sure that Gladekeeper smiles on her leadership skills, as well as my own by proxy.
I can't imagine that my counterpart is doing very well. It is not that I hate him per se, but that we cannot reconcile our differences well enough to do what the Gladekeeper would desire as a cohesive clan. To that end, it is much easier to attain such goals on my own (relatively speaking).
~Zeliwyr, of the House of Thistles.
House of Thorns:
My heir has come of age. I've gifted him a Necklace in order to symbolize a bond between me and him. I believe he is now old enough to lead my rag-tag group of dragons. I'm sure that Gladekeeper smiles on her leadership skills, as well as my own by proxy.
I can't imagine that my counterpart is doing very well. It is not that I hate him per se, but that we cannot reconcile our differences well enough to do what the Gladekeeper would desire as a clan. It is much easier to follow such goals alone, or at the very least excluding her.
The nest had hatched, and it’d procured three hatchlings. Already it seems that two of them take after their father in terms of genes. That being said, of the three of them, it seems that two have some peculiar eyes. The third one, my only daughter of the nest, seems to be the most magically adept despite the implied difference with the eyes, so she shall take up the mantle of leading the group i’ve assembled as my own little clan of sorts. I’ll even give her an heirloom that I have recently acquired.
With all of this being said, the road ahead for a prosperous clan might not be as simple or as easy as I thought. I’ve consulted an attuned sage who has told me that the road to prosperity will be a long and demanding one. Sacrifices will have to be made. Hopefully it will not come to extremes, but if it means I will be able to show my devotion. Coluri, as she seems to go buy, insisted that things will be rough. That being said, she was also quite pushy for me simply trying to talk to that other progenitor that appeared alongside me. She said it would become a feud if we didn’t settle our differences. Sages can’t always be accurate, right? In any event, I can see great things in the futures of these hatchlings.
~Zeliwyr, of the House of Thistles.
House of Thorns:
With the hatching of our five egg nest, I think the Gladekeeper must be happy with my endeavors. My clan of dragons has been prosperous, our food stocks grow, and I must imagine Gladekeeper smiles on my hatchlings. They all show remarkable aptitude for magic, but the youngest of our group, Aldyth, has shown the most talent and seems to be the most capable of them. After contacting a local sage to help assess the hatchling’s talent, she warned me that I may be faced with great sacrifice in the near or distant future. If the Gladekeeper is willing to help my group flourish, I think there is not much to lose, well not much that wouldn’t be sacrificed. I’d imagine while Aldyth will become the leader of the group, all of them will be able to support me in one way or another.
~Delaleu, of the House of Thorns
Housekeeping: I should probably elaborate a little on how i’m tallying up the nests and determining who is gonna be the victor on technical terms. It’ll be following what’s up on the Legacy Challenge Thread, so it should hopefully flow well. Who wins is determined based on sum total points, and points will be awarded in nest batches.
So, firstly, I’ll determine how many points each hatchling racks up between breed / genes / eye types. Eye types only count once, but genes can count up to 3 times, with basic genes scoring no points. If a hatchling has a color bonus (having 2 matching colors or having a triple range), this is tacked on here before the heir bonus is determined.
Then, I determine who gets to be the heir by numbering the hatchlings then rolling dice (6′s count for rerolls since you can’t have more than five eggs a nest) and then the heir’s individual score is doubled as a bonus. After that, I add up the sum amount of points for the hatchlings in the nest.Â
Each generation i’ll use the amount of points a nest has in order to determine a winner in terms of lore. Whichever side has the most points at the end of the run will be the technical winner.
That being said, The Thorn seem to be beating the Thistles 24 to 18.Â
Delaleu’s heir is Aldyth, while Zeliwyr’s is Lugila. It’s also worth noting that Aldyth is a double (XYY Seafoam/Shamrock/Shamrock)
I'm not sure what the Gladekeeper was thinking, that we would ever get along. In any event, i've left Zeliwyr and set out on my own. I've found decent company in Thornspine, another guardian I have encountered and we have nested. It is great, we have a full five egg nest. I certainly don't think that Zeliwyr could ever be as successful as I when left to her own devices.
In any event, i'm starting this journal as i'm setting out to start a clan of my own. This would be handy to help keep track of things as well as for purposes of posterity.
~Delaleu
House of Thistles:
It took quite some time, but now that i'm away from that idiot, hopefully things will turn for the better. I plan to start a new clan away from Delaleu, that fool. After a egregi Mild disagreement, we decided to part ways, and I do think it is for the better. I've met Xarles, an interesting fellow, and I figure nesting with him is a good way as any to found a new clan of my own. I'm quite pleased that it is three eggs, and i'm hopeful for the future.
