Being a photographer now is like being a rapper back in the 90s/early 2000s. People who sell out get paid. People who do the same thing as everyone else get noticed. The really hungry/talented MFs stay underground and end up with die hard, loyal fans. And then there are a bunch of wannabes who pick up a camera from target cause they think it’s an easy come up. Some people do it for fun. Some people do it for money. Some people do it cause it’s their reason for breathing. There’s competition. There’s flavor. There are the elite and there are the nobodies. Some people will go to the ends of the earth and brace war zones. Others will photograph babies and weddings. Anyone can do it but few people do it well. Doesn’t matter how you feel about it, just know that your whole world exists because of people like me. Your TV, magazines, advertising, album covers, and super bright cell phones all exist because of your obsession with imagery. Your obsession with the art that people like me create is why you dress the way you do, why Nat Geo is as big as it is, why you know what Kim K. wore three Sundays ago, and why you are reading this very post. Your whole world revolves around people like me. Thank your local real ass photographer and kick an imposter in the teeth tonight.
